I have found the True Temper XP105 seems to be a good replacement for the Apex shaft if you cant find a suitable donor set. Seems a very smooth shaft with good launch and spin characteristics that compare with the Apex range.

I first found out about the Hogan Apex ll irons because my friend on our High School golf team had a fairly new set (this was back in 1979) , and I was so jealous. My friend belonged to Irvine Coast CC a private course in Newport Beach and was a very good junior player who won the Junior Southern California amateur, and he hit those irons so pure in the middle of the  face every time, which added even more allure to me because I thought those irons must be easy to hit. My high school got to play Big Canyon GC in Newport Beach, Irvine Coast Country Club in Newport B. the course they play on the Toshiba Classic on the Champions Tour that our high school got to play.  I lived in a rich area, but my family was poor, and we lived in a very small beach cottage. Anyways I was playing a set of clubs that had been in the lost and found at the CC and the pro let me have them, they were very old clubs and not very good ones either and did not have one matching iron but I was grateful to just have a set. So when I saw my friends Apex ll with the white cameo of Ben Hogan they looked so beautiful like a piece of jewelry, but even better because you could play golf with them. On a side note, I think I might have the record of sneaking onto a private course and kicking kicked off every single time. During the summer when I was a kid there were no public golf courses near where I lived, so I snuck on Irvine Coast CC, through the years I probably got kicked off that course a 150 times. I would sneak on and play maybe 4 or 5 holes, very rarely  I could get a whole 9 holes in but that was only at first, because I was not well known around there. I would be playing and would look up and see the golf pro Ted Oliver driving a cart straight at me, he would just say get in, and drive me to the pro shop. He really wasn’t too mad with me, because he never said he would call the cops or anything, I think some members complained and he was just doing his job. Sorry for rambling on.
