Maryvale winter Wrx outing

As it gets closer I'll firm up the dates, not gonna go crazy planning this one.

I see some new faces/first timers are intersted, as it gets closer, I might have the guys that I haven't met maybe do something to reserve their spot so I don't get stuck on the no shows who say they are in and then don't show up. I know the other guys are good for it so no worries there.

We'll shoot for a Sunday, once it opens up I'll see what they have on the schedule, with it being a new design they might have tons of crap planned the first few months that might limit our availability

I'd be happy to PayPal the greens fee, not sure if others would be comfortable with that, but if your taking the time to plan this and book you should not be on the hook if someone flakes or has some other issue if they can't make it. Just my .02.

I see the point about dealing with flakes but the only way that anyone would be on the hook for any fees is if it was booked with Golfnow or something. Since I'm one of the new faces, I'm up for whatever is agreed upon to try to eliminate the issue

Usually you have a 24hr cancellation policy even with the city card, though they aren't as tough in enforcing it if someone no shows.

When I set up one at southern dunes, we had to reserve spots with PayPal and it worked out for me since if someone didn't show and I was charged(Troon will do that) at least I was covered and if they didn't charge me, PayPal was refunded

Edit:
Here's the city's no show policy:
No Show/Cancellation Policy

To ensure that all golfers have the opportunity to play at City of Phoenix golf courses, the following No Show policy was put into effect on Nov. 15, 2006.

You must cancel reservations at least 24 hours prior to a scheduled tee time by either calling 1-866-865-4653 or, for internet reservations, canceling online. Tee time reservations not canceled at least 24 hours in advance will be charged a No Show fee of $15 (Nov. 1 through May 31) and $8 (June 1 through Oct. 31). All tee time reservations require a credit card at time of booking.

Have we started a blacklist yet for guys that no show and leave the group organizer hanging in a match against two of the better players in AZWRX? Asking for a friend.

I'm seriously thinking about going on opening day, they have an interesting article in AZ Golf Insider magazine. (35-45 peak, 29-31 for resident card holders)

7,250 from tips, added 500 yards, finishing stretch 16 is 485 Par4, 17 is 200 Par3 over water and 18 is 465 Par4 into Estrella Mountains. Bunkers with white

Augusta like sand.

Count me in.... I had to laugh at Jay4's post and the course description he found... "18 is 465 Par4 into Estrella Mountains." Ha, the Estella mountains... you might be able to see the peaks or the mountains if you jump up and down on the tee box. It should say 18 is 465 Par4 into "the parking lot".

The opening hole tees off towards bullet ridden Chicago while the 10th tees off towards gang land in South Central LA and the 18th brings you right back to the emergency responders right here in our home town.

Myself, forelife and oneputt would have played it today... but they cancelled our reservations without compensation via email, because they double booked our tee time. Even though I booked on the 28th and they gave our spot away to a phone call on the 2nd.

Clearly they didn't spend 10mil on customer service, because they didn't even call me to explain. I had to call them to find out wtf was going on and they couldn't even offer a makeup pass or anything. I will be calling back again tomorrow.

So pissed.

Played the course today. It's definitely an improvement over the old Maryvale. Although I still have trouble comprehending what they spent the 10 million on.

This is shocking to read. I also played yesterday and could tell exactly how they spent all that money. All the undulation thats now on the course was never there before. They rebuilt the entire clubhouse. redid all the greens, added a ton of bunkers with really nice sand, Removed a bunch of trees etc etc.... maybe I noticed the changes more because I played it so many times before the reno.

I read online that Pacific Dunes was built from scratch for less then $3 million. I am not disputing a lot of work was done but It doesn't seem like $10 million was spent on the renovation based on the overall condition which is still lacking.

10 million wasn't spent on the renovation alone a large part of that went to the new clubhouse. 20k + sqft aint cheap to build.

Part of the attraction of building a minimalist links course is the fact it needs no irrigation, uses fescue which requires almost no chemicals/fertilizers, they didn't have to move much dirt on that piece of land and the bunker sand is native to the site. Also Tom Doak was basically a nobody when they hired him to do that. Even with that said if you just add up wages alone it is easy to see how that money gets burned through quickly.
