Sadly no more Cally fairway woods for me

setter02

Recommended Posts

After cracking my beloved XHP last year, I stopped playing golf for like 2 months last year. Well my replacement has joined her in spectacular fashion. Love the performance, but can't be having this happen. So off to TEE again I go likely.

Small victory is that I went and played 9h anyway and forced myself to hit diver. Made a little posture change the other week and its working out very well. 1 missed fairway and a -1 under 35 (really should have kept playing). its nice being in the short stuff, but I really liked these fairway woods.

I found the TEE better to hit off of the tee than the X2HP

maybe it's got something to do with the name

I had a CB4 as my gamer before the XHP. It was a bit longer, but the XHP was more fogiving to me overall, thus it replaced the CB4. I'm picking up a CB1 tomorrow that will fill the gap with a 15* 906F2 for the rest of my season, but will be looking for something new for '16. After never cracking a face before ever, 2 Cally woods in 2 seasons. Boo.

Yikes. I'm way too weak to pull that off! Not like you'll be losing anything much going back to TEE, but the Callaway XR line is really nice...................

Wow that happening twice is amazing! Good luck with your search, I would highly recommend the 915 F. I came from the X2HP.

They likely will, but I don't want to see this as becoming a habit. My limited sample size of break 2 for 2 is huge in my eyes vs. all others I've gamed before. I'm also not a fan of PX wood shafts, so no interest in the XR really as I would have to reshaft it right away. I know I'm not the only one something like this has happened to, but I am just wary of the product now.

Send it in then sell the new one. Get a TEE.

I have two TEE fairway woods. A XCG7 Beta 13º and a CB4 16.5º. Great sticks. Gotta love how hot the faces are.

I also have a Callaway X2Hot Pro 5w that I love. Sweet feel off the face, although I think the crown is deforming a little right where that crack on yours is.

Tough call for you, but I think you need to use clubs you are confident in. I personally feel that TEE titanium faced woods are the best. Absolutely love them.

Good luck.

That's crazy. I've never seen a golf ball do that much destruction to a club, let alone two them. I'd bring it up to Callaway, you're not losing anything. They'd probably send you a club with your specs and choice of shaft.

OMG, that is crazy, I've been playing golf for 20y & played callaway clubs for the last 10y. My swing speed is 116 with a driver & about 108 with my three wood, I've also had about 10 different 3woods & have never seen a broken face at all, let alone one that looks Ike a 50cal hit it. This is totally amazing, however, a buddy came to me very exited one day about this full set of callaways that he bought online for cheap. Not wanting to burst his bubble when I saw them (fake) I just kept quiet. Both his driver & 3w looked like that or similar after 3 rounds of golf, at which point he said he was never buying callaway crap again.
I told him to take them to callaway, which he did & was extremely dissapointed when they broke the news to him.
That great customer service gave him a full set of clubs, including bag at a third of the price as a token of good faith!

Manufacturing defects in these heads happen and it's rarely an indication of any problem with the design itself. No company is immune and you're just as likely to see the same failure in any head from any company with similar high-core face characteristics (assuming it's not a counterfeit club and has not been abused in any way).

Difference is I've played all those other high COR heads, and never had an issue. Now I've had 2 cracked heads in back to back years. Wasn't a counterfit head as it was purchased at GT (used to work there) and was just the stock Tour Green shaft. My previous XHP was custom ordered straight from Cally.

Club sent back today, will see what happens, but won't have anything back from them before our season is basically done anyway. At least the part where I put the gamer woods away and bring out the winter tools.

That's probably the fifth picture I've seen of that line cracked in that manner.

I cracked a TMAG 12° SLDR Mini in 10 swings at my LGS. Not like that, but still cracked beyond repair.

Ultra thin faces.
[/quote]

Ultra thin faces because they're trying to get maximum distance for the "WOW" factor for their customer. For what they have in each club they'll gladly replace clubs for people. And now their customers are bragging about how their clubs are longer than TM now.

Had similar issue with 3 separate Callaway fairways, one original XHot Pro and two X2Hot deep, customer service took care of first two- third I returned to retailer for store credit as no longer had patience to deal with issue.

I have a CB Pro that's ridiculously long. There are tee shots that have gone as long as some of my longer drives. It's easy to hit for a "pro" version of a club.

Interesting... I guess this could be a byproduct of them making the faces thinner and thinner.

I had an original XHP 15 3wood and prefer the regular XR 4 wood SOOOOO much better. Obviously not an apples to apples comparison with the lofts being different and pro model vs regular but the XR is so forgiving, launches high and is just easy to hit. I have complete confidence with that stick. Could be the shaft is more suited for me as well. Who knows.
