New Tour Preferred Line (merged)

After playing Snells for awhile, I went back to the TP X and I was amazed at how much less it spun around the greens. I didn't remember it being like that. So it looks like they are going in the right direction. Lower the compression for less spin on the drives, make the cover softer for more spin around the greens.

So the question will be whether they can make it better than the Snell balls to make it worth the price...

Is it a bad thing that the old balls get discounted? Should they stay $40+ like the prov1s? Lol

I gave the TP's a go yesterday. Wow, huge changes. The ball is completely different.

The spin has been amped up across the board. More spin off the driver - result is higher ball flight and shorter drives. More spin on irons - result higher (much higher) ball flight and loss of distance. More spin around the greens - result better bite, but only slightly so.

Needless to say I am disappointed. Actually, really bummed. The ball feels much, much worse. Very hollow feel and sound.

Reminds me of the discontinued Srixon Z-Star SL, which I played during winter when I needed a lower compression ball.

I guess the good news is I have found a replacement for the Srixon SL but now I need to go hunting for a ball to play in warmer weather, which for Southern California means most of the year.

TM drives me nuts. I stocked up on the TP Reds when they were discontinued, only to sell them off when the TP came out because the TP was a better ball than the Red. Now, it looks like I will have to stock up on the "Old" TP because this "New" TP is a poser. They should have left the TP the way it was and introduced this ball under a new name, because there is no way this ball will be played by anyone who wants "Tour Preferred" performance.

This is the time of year that i go out a lot by myself and hit 3 or 4 balls off the tee and basically just practice the whole way thru nine holes......Lots of leaves, so hard to find balls but on the other hand you find a lot of lost balls.......I found several TM Tour Preferred balls (No idea what year) and hit them here and there off the tee, along with my used pro v's and some others........The TP's seemed to be noticeably shorter. What do you folks who use these balls think.......I must admit, my finding are certainly not based on any scientific experiment......What say you?

I am going to start picking up a few extra dozen of the current TPX just in case.

I just found a dozen on ebay for $29.99 shipped
I just ordered 2 dozen of the TPX from TGW before I read this thread today. I am glad I did cause now I'll have 4 dozen, which should last me a while.

Regular TP.

I did not try the TPx, but am interested to hear what others have to say about it.
From what I understand Taylor Made wanted to make their two new balls more different from each other. The new TP got changed much more than the new TPX from what I hear from the reps. The previous TP and TPX played very similar off the long and short clubs. On the mid irons the TP had a bit more spin.

Haven't played a lot with the ProV1x but I did test the Titleist balls last year (⬛️ and⚫️) and found them to be pretty even with the TPX. Where one of the Titlest balls(can't remember which) was better than the TPX for me was chipping around the green. I had thought the TPX was long the the ProV1X off the tee when it came out. But the test balls were close the the TPX.

If the TPX is better around the greens, it will make a lot of people happy

Shows a complete lack of confidence in your game if you can't make a judgement on balls wthout price being the deciding factor. Might explain why I find so many lost ProVs around the course.

For me, the current TPX was the longest ball out there. I agree the spin was not good. I played the SNELL for second half the season though because it was "almost" as long but way better spin / control on short shots. If the TPX is the same with a bit more spin to greens it could be the ball next year...
I liked everything on Snell MTB except for tee shots hit into the wind.
Also my tee shots were slightly higher than usual with MTB and it ballooned a bit when it was windy. Next ball i hit after snell out of curiosity was elite 50 and that ball penetrates in a very boring flight even into the wind

Anyone who says the TPx is a short ball is wrong, way wrong..... way way wrong or a below average ball striker.

TP Tour X and Pro V1x are 2 long balls... one is better in the wind and the other more spinny around greens. Pick your poison.

I have hit 19 of my 20 longest drives ever with both these balls..... the TPx a little longer and shot 18 of my 21 lowest scores ever with these balls... both are excellent... Callie Chrome Soft a 3rd

Played first round today with the new 2016 TM TPx ball...I think they got a winner here. Feels very similar to the previous generation TP ball, has A LOT of greenside spin, and is as long or more likely longer than the the previous TPx. I didn't have any of the previous ball to compare it with as I had switched earlier in the year to the TP...which worked much better for me off my irons, but cost me a few yards with the driver. Today's conditions were very cool; 37* at tee off but warmed up to high 40's by the time I finished. I played one set of tees back from where I normally do on this course because I was by myself today...and every drive I hit was at least to where I normally wind up, if not 5-15 yards farther. Three approach shots I hit with 7/8 irons backed up from 1-3 feet...which never happens for me as I sweep the ball instead of hitting down on it--old school from the 70's. The previous ball always felt very firm off the irons, and did not fly as high as I would have liked. The new TPx seems to have a noticeably higher trajectory...almost as if they combined the best features of the two previous balls into the new without sacrificing anything in return. I'm very impressed so far, can only imagine what this bad boy will be like in summer.
