Wilson Duo Urethane

Since I'm finally healthy, I think I'll give this ball a try. I have to rebuild my swing after my last few injury plagued seasons and predict that my swing speed will probably come in significantly under 105. I don't think that my back will hold up swinging any faster...

Anyone else have trouble putting the normal duo? I do have a rubber insert on my putter and I CANNOT feel the ball off the face.

I love the soft feel in the cold months it provides, it's a long ball and straight (prov1x feels like a piece of concrete in the winter). Should I switch to elite 50's lol

I know what you mean. The combination of ultra-low compression balls and putter inserts rob all of the feel on the green. The Duo U, while soft, is not as nearly as soft as the basic Duo and should still provide enough feedback. At least that is what I am deducing after using it with non-insert putter.

Not nearly as soft as the basic Duo to me either, and I've played the Duo as my go to ball for well over a year now! I played 9 with the Duo U yesterday in damp, windy conditions with temps in the high 50s but still undecided on it yet! Local course has a stockpile they got of new, individual Duos for $1 apiece, so I'll prolly stock up, for my game, I can't go wrong at $12 a dozen, and they'll probably cut the $1 a ball price since I'm a regular there!

Any fast ss players say 110+ (I'm 115+) have positive or negative reviews of this ball? Thanks!

Looking for the same. The original Duo went absolutely nowhere for me. Not sure if this will be any different, but you never know.

FYI, stopped by the PGA Superstore as I received an e-mail from Wilson Staff that they're doing a Duo Urethane promo locally. (Might want to check out the Wilson Staff webpage on the interwebs and join the mailing list)

Chap I spoke with was very knowledgeable, drew a comparison that the Duo Urethane is more along the lines of the "old" FG Tour with a bit more distance; the current FG Tour is more similar to the previous generation FG Tour X.

Took advantage of the two-ball sample pack for stopping by the stand.

Hope to get out to the course tomorrow, will be putting in the basement later this evening. I still have a stash of the old FG Tours to compare, so I'll update the putting piece later.

Thanks Wilson Staff!

I played 18 holes with one today. The distance seems similar to the two other balls I play (Wilson Staff 50 Elite and Chrome Soft). It seemed slightly straighter than the Chrome Soft (though that could just be me). It's still pretty damp in Seattle, so I'm not certain how well the spin with the wedges would be. Every wedge shot I had ended up just inches from the ball mark. Durability was pretty great. I used one ball the entire round. The only issue was an approach shot I hit with a lob wedge that managed to land directly on a sprinkler head on the fringe. It didn't really scuff the ball, but it left a big grey spot. I can't tell if the coloring scraped off the ball, or some paint from the sprinkler head transferred over. It wasn't scuffed though, and I used it for the last three holes with no noticeable depredation in performance.

I like these better than the Chrome Soft. If they were the price of the Duo Spin, I'd probably only use these. At this price though, I'll probably not use them on courses where I can lose a few balls.

I stopped at an Edwin Watts yesterday for the Duo day to get a 2 pack. Did you get a 2 pack of the Duo U? This store was handing out samples of the regular Duo.

Update: Spent some time last night & this morning with the putter and the sample Duo U, 2013 NOS FG Tour (very much a favorite), & a standard Duo.

After putting for a bit I was becoming tainted by the sound of the ball(s) off the putterface, so I grabbed the iPod and the headphones to take that element out of the equation. After a couple of sessions to me it seems that the standard Duo is the softest followed by the Duo U then the FG Tour.

But there's a bigger spread between the Duo and the Duo U then there is between the Duo U and the old FG Tour.

My plans to get up to the club today have been up-ended, so I won't have a chance to compare the Duo U & the FG Tour until mid-week, weather permitting. More to come.

I played another 9 holes on a par three this morning. The greens were still damp, but firmer than the course I played yesterday. I was getting 10-15 feet of spin back on a sand wedge. Even my pitching wedge and nine iron were backing up a bit. I hit a 5 iron about 170 that stopped about 3 feet forward of the ball mark. I'm not normally one who spins the ball a lot.

It didn't check up as much as I had hoped when chipping and pitching around the green, though I've never been one who can get enough spin to accomplish that.

At the same price point as the Chrome Soft, I don't see any reason not to choose this ball (unless you like the TruVis).

I've played duo a few rounds have high SS, any questions I will do my best to answer

If you have ever played the b330-s/b330 (a couple of my favorite balls), how would you compare? I am getting some duo-U coming in and am anxious to see the 50, 75, 100 yard shots and driver...

Do they play well in the wind or cold? I live in Massachusetts now so all weather conditions are possible! Thanks!

They are definitely softer than the B330, I played those for awhile, definitely have more bite around the greens maybe too much in some cases. It's cold in Texas right now and I've had no issues with them. Into the wind you might have to take more club than normal but that's a small adjustment to make. I've had no issues with driver I've lost no distance that I know of, I'm hitting from the same places I always have. The ball has a lower flight to me off of driver and a mushy feel.

Thanks for the heads up. ..I'm going to take them to the trackman next week when they come in. And hopefully in a few weeks can get them around some greens.

Played 18 today with the Duo U. Temps started in the 40s got to upper 50s by the end of the round. I'm normally around the 100-105 swing speed range with driver and normally play v1x. Played the same ball for the entire round. Durability was very good. I didn't notice any distance loss off the tee. Maybe a touch longer off the irons. It felt great off the club face. Definitely could tell it was softer which I liked for the cold weather. Not as much spin around the green as v1x but it still had plenty for me. It feels a lot like the original chrome soft to me so it's a good option for all those that liked it.

Thanks for the review! If you had any mid pitch shots 20-50 yards, what was the reaction on the greens?

For those of you who have played both the Duo and Duo U do you find distance to be similar with them?

I played a Duo-U right next to a 2016 330 RXS yesterday. The Duo seemed a touch softer off the tee, and a bit more bite around the green. The 330RXS was a little longer and seemed invincible. I caught a tree with it and I didn't even see a scuff mark.

Very similar in my opinion. Both soft, easy to hit, and forgiving. The Duo-U gave me more spin and the 330RXS was a little longer. I'll be able to give a more in depth analysis Wednesday when I can get out for 18.

Weather wise; I live in Denver where it was a modset 55° with a slight breeze. Neither balk seemed bothered by the temperature or the breeze. Supposed to be 65 or 70 on Wednesday, will re-post with a more in depth comparison them

Had a chance today to get in 9 before sundown with the Duo U. Temps started out right at 70 and dropped to about 60 by the time I finished. Started out hitting 2 drives on each tee box comparing the Duo to a pro v1x. Actually noticed I was longer with the Duo. I even got to chip around the greens with both from the same spots and they performed similarly for me. The Duo feels so much softer off all clubs which I actually like a lot. I actually quit hitting the v1x after about 4 holes because I just liked how the Duo felt so much better.

How was the duo-u with the wedges in your opinion compared to the pv1x? Thanks

Finally got out today for nine, comparing the Duo-U and the original FG Tour. Temperature was in the high 50's.

  • Very, very similar thru the bag. Duo-U rolled out a little bit more than the FG Tour with the wedges (but not nearly as much as a standard Duo).
  • Duo-U was a few yards longer on drives than the FG Tour, we're splitting hairs here.
  • Unfortunately, the Duo-U sinks just as well as other balls when hit into a water hazard.

A worthy successor to the original FG Tour? For this 11 index, modest swing speed hack, I think so.

They are still going to make the FG Tour. The Duo U is just to fill the space between the spin and the FG Tour. ?

Correct. I noted in an earlier post that a Wilson rep compared the Duo-U to the 2013(?) vintage {original} FG Tour, the current FG Tour is more akin to the FG Tour-X that was offered during the same timeframe.

Some of us that really liked the original FG Tour didn't feel the same love for the current FG Tour.

Tried the Duo U at the store head to head with Pro V1x. Duo was sadly underwhelming. Less wedge spin, slightly less height\descent angle. Distance was comparable. Sticking with the Pro V, with the possible exception of the new Nike ball. I'll get on the launch monitor Monday and compare the Nike ball. After that Pro V1x for another year.
