I currently play an i25 driver but I've just lopped an inch off my old G5 and in considering adding weight and putting it back in the bag again. Had the club since 2004/2005ish.

Evening all.

It's been a long time since I have been around, quite a break from the game due to work and family commitments.
However the hunger is returning and I am looking forward to playing a lot more in 2016.

Going back through some of my old posts I found discussions about Callaway FT-5s, Cleveland Hi-Bores, Cobra LD, Ping K15, plus others and was wondering if anyone is still gaming some of these older/ancient Drivers.

I remember reading some great stories about how good they were for accuracy and distance. Many of them must be cheap as chips to buy now.

Is the new stuff really any better, apart from being shiny?

I still have a soft spot for a couple that I have gamed in the past and looking to become reacquainted with a some of them to regain the confidence I once had.

I can't be the only one living in the past?
Still playing an R 11. Tried to change it plenty of times but when you are hitting between 10-14 fairways every game why would you bother? This club is never leaving my bag!!!!!

I've been using a Ben Hogan CS3 since I bought it in 2004...most consistent club in my bag.

Hogan CS3. That brings back memories. I never played one, but always picked them up in store. i may add that to my list although could be hard to find now.

Ping G2 ('08) and Adams 6088UL ('12). Painting and re-shafting the Ping this winter.
I was looking at Ping G2 heads online and thought about it how do you like it I've never actually hit one? But I love to G10 and head shape looked similar.
G2 are seriously good clubs. As solid, long, forgiving and straight as you could ask for. G10 pretty much the same. Both much better than the later G15 imo. The fact you never see either in used bins tells you how good they are.

While it's not that old as a 2013 model, due to Callaway's Taylormade-like prodigious release schedule my Optiforce 440 feels older than it is.

My other backups are at least a couple of years old as well: Fast 12 ls and SLDR 430.

Until recently I had a 510tp that would still make it in the bag occasionally. I wouldn't mind having it back.

I also dabbled with a G10 7.5 this past season. Great numbers from it. However as is so often the case I got rid of it to move onto to something "better" which I inevitably don't like as much.

I have a TEE 12 (first gen) deg that is my starter (graphalloy speed coat blue) and it developed a rattle- So I get on Ebay and Crglist to find a backup. I found a TEE 6 exotics - cant' hit my zipcode with this thing. I then find an X2 hot - same thing. Both adjustable. (Same shafts in all). I then find an R7 Ht 11.5 deg with a graphite design 6+ stiff at Play it again- $25. I tried it last weekend- Almost made my first par 4 hole in one (18 inches almost directly behind the hole) with it. My driver speed is around 100 mph. So I agree the older stuff is fine as long as you find a good shaft. Drivers are like wedges for me- I keep one a long time if I develop confidence with it. I have never been "fitted" on a machine with a driver, I "audition" clubs on the course.

I'm pretty sure if you removed the $$$ incentive that many, if not most tour players would change their drivers no more than their 3 woods or putters. The only reason to change is because the potential replacement driver is smoking the current gamer over at least a dozen games or more. I think people often mistake different for better. Golf clubs "like wine" often get better with age.

I've been playing various incarnations of the Cleveland HiBore...

have recently moved from Hibore to HiBore XLS and now HiBore XLS Tour...

At the same time, I've recently puchased TEE XCG7 Beta driver and an E8 Beta head.

So, we'll see how the Cleveland's fare against the newer TEE's...

My father has been playing an R11 since its release 4 years ago. He's currently trying it against the M1, but even with fitting he's not hitting it any better.
