2016 Sony Open: Discussion Thread

Our first batch of PGA Tour photos in 2016 come from GolfWRX member tod071 at the Sony Open in Hawaii at Waialae Country Club on the island of Oahu.

 

The 7,044-yard par-70 will host a strong field including Adam Scott, who's currently ranked No. 11 in the Official World Golf Rankings, Zach Johnson (No. 12) and Kevin Kisner (No. 16). Jimmy Walker (No. 25) is going for a three-peat, having won in both 2014 and 2015. Last year Walker torched the field, winning by nine strokes after a weekend 62-63.

Great pics, but what is the story behind Kuchar's headcovers, and the headcover that is one of a kid doll? I usually am not hung up on covers, curious is all.

 

Also, is Stricker there and is he back to the Zing style putter? I remember he was trying a GoLo of some sort late last season.

^^ Kuchar's headcovers are a limited Hawaiian floral print from Seamus. The doll headcover belongs to Harold Varner III, and according to him, bears a slightly humorous resemblance to the player.

There is so much new equipment at the Sony is not even funny, when I caddied there for the last 6 years, I saw drivers and irons that would eventually come out at a later date or never released to the public, I will miss talking to the pros and being inside the ropes, if any of you have the opportunity volunteer for a tournament the experience in second to none, I was lucky to caddy and got to know some of the pros personally...

The one playing the 501's is a local kid from Hawaii who qualified. I play against him in some Hawaiian tournaments and he is the real deal.
