Ping Anser TR 1966

Spent at least 20 mins with an Anser 2 today at PGASS. Really, really trying not to piss off the wife by buying one as the Clicgear and new bag is coming tomorrow and buying some new shoes this week. Happy marriage or hoeing golf clubs? Hmmm.

After 3 rounds, my Anser TR 1966 is the best putter I have had in the bag! Love the look, feel and she makes putts! And 1/2 the price of SC. :)

Here a couple of pics of my new Anser with Starshot finish and a red sight line on the top flange.

 

I went with my normal specs: 35.25" length, 67* lie angle, 2* loft

 

This putter feels/looks incredible and so far, the results have been promising.

Finally got everything squared away. Ping did in fact forget to put the starshot finish but they are having me ship the putter back so they can get the order right. I also requested to get the lie flatter as it was still a bit upright for me when I played it for a couple of holes this past weekend.

 

Initial thoughts are positive. Feel is good, love the sound, distance control is nice on mishits, though I still have to get used to it. Not as "soft" as the Slighter I have but I already expected that. Will it kick out the Slighter I have? Probably not. But this will be a great backup putter or a putter I bring out every once in a while.

I like mine more than the Redwood I had. Just shows to go ya. One thing about the Anser 2. No glare!

I prefer mine to the Redwood as well. The roll appears to be more consistent.

The more I putt with the Anser 2 and Anser, the more I'm liking the click of the Anser because of the slot. An Anser 2 with slot would have been perfect for me, but not sure I can justify a 3rd one.

SS Plus Flatso 2.0 XL with 50g weight. First time using an SS and I'm really loving it. In the honeymoon stage right now but it feels like I'll never be able to go back to a normal grip again.

Iomic sticky putter grip........ Japan only edition I think, thinner than the standard grip, which is just a tad too thick for me.

Talk to your local ping dealer or call mortons. Tell them you want to send it in for the starshot finish. It's that easy.

Starshot costs 30 I think. Add 17 for shipping (standard for Ping), and you should have something that looks pretty cool for an additional 50.

I was told four weeks but I'm in Canada. So who knows!

My starshot Anser took around 4 weeks, but I ordered it before the release date, if that makes a difference. Well worth the wait though.

 

Besides, 4 weeks is hardly a long time.

It's a blasted finish. 100% guaranteed.

The finish is pretty much the same as my early 90's Anser 2, which still looks almost as good as my new TR1966. After 4 rounds it looks new.

I ordered mine on 4/25 and have not gotten the shipping notice from Ping yet. That said, we are still in the 7-10 business days they quoted for the order to be completed.

It's blasted. PVD is only regular Anser. I have the Anser 2 with star shot finish and it looks—literally—brand new after 5 rounds. I expect it will look "brand new" for several more years to come. There is no more tougher, bomb proof putter available today than a Ping 17-4 cast stainless putter. It doesn't come close to scratching or dinging like a milled putter. It's an all-business gamer.

Is it correct to say that the stock Anser 2 finish and the Starshot finish are similar in how they're processed, just different media size and/or time in the blasting chamber? That is, both finishes should be equally durable?
