I've been eyeing these for a while now and tested them in my local shop. Just ordered an Anser with Starshot finish and a white sight dot at 34", black dot, PINGMAN blackout grip. Also thinking of buying an unaltered Anser 2 off the shelf and changing the grip to the PINGMAN grip by myself. Excited is an understatement.

Btw, does anyone know the standard loft of the Ansers? Went with the standard lofts but would be interested to see what would be best for me... Is it worth stacking up some cash for a SAM puttlab screening? Or is it just more the feel? Ie pushing hands forward needs more loft. Static hands can have lower loft like 2 degrees?

Standard loft of both Anser's is 3*. I had my bent to 4* because I forward press and it is perfect. It took me a couple rounds to get used to the lighter weight of the Anser compared to my old Scotty Del Mar, but once I did this putter became magic. It does not seem to matter where on the face you hit the ball with this putter, everything feels and rolls great. I tend to miss my putts a bit out on the toe and I would be severely penalized for that with my Scotty. Not the case at all with the TR 1966 Anser. Love this putter.

I ordered my 1966 on May 2. It had been about two weeks so I emailed Morton to find out the status. Here is what I got back

Thank you for your recent purchase of the TR 1966 Anser. Unfortunately Ping has not started production on your putter yet. Fortunately you got the order in when you did. As of yesterday they are no longer making the TR 1966 Anser or Anser 2 putters.

Production has been overwhelmed with these putters and are still running behind by about 2 weeks.

I bolded and underlined the part that is amazing! Yesterday would be 5/16/16.

Wow, there was some rumor talk of this being a limited putter. Hopefully they have enough heads on hand to fill the demand and "making" means the foundry isn't casting any more heads but "we happen to still have 100,000 heads in inventory".

Agree with this assessment. The grooves work as advertised. I have a Yes! putter that puts a similar tight roll on the ball, and you can definitely tell the difference on long putts.

Looks like the 1966 is no longer listed on Mortons site. I placed my order with them on 5/8. Hope I still get it.

Random question here. Will the tungsten inserts in the heel and toe quiet down the sound slot on my Anser? I like the putter but when I go into a golf store and put an OTR one i like that the sound slot is louder. I know part of why mine is quieter is that I have a super stroke GT pistol on it that I am going to pull off tonight but even with the factory grip it seemed quieter but I might be crazy.

Got my TR1966 Anser as a demo model from Edwin Watts. It was modestly discounted, but basically mint. Moved to it from a Scottsdale Anser 2 and love it. Biggest concern was moving away from always having a sight line to not having anything. BEST move i could have made. I feel like my mind is less cluttered standing over the ball after getting a good intial read on the putt. Also really love the sound slot. Feels and sounds great!

The pro at my course ordered an Anser 2 for me yesterday. Ping said it would ship in 3 days.

Spoke to Ping and they confirmed that the tungsten weights are what makes the sound slot not so loud. Little bummed about it but maybe ill BST some things and have an excuse to buy a Anser Milled haha

Ping told me you can order the anser without the slot. A little heavier and quieter.

FWIW....I put lead tape on the sole....covering the slot....totally different sound which equates to softer feel.

I tried ordering a custom anser and was informed that Ping is now out of the anser. Probably still anser 2's. Sucks as I was wanting a starshot with a sightline on top. Debating on whether to just buy a stock one and refinish it.

They canceled my order as if they it wouldn't ever be filled or it'll be so long before it's filled. I asked them whether there will be more to come. If I hear anything I'll post.

I pulled the SS grip and put a ping man blackout on and the sound got a little louder which I am glad. I also got a Anser milled new from PGA ss for 129 and had 129 in trade ins so I just paid tax. I like having both since my custom has a sightline and the milled doesn't. Miller probably has a little more solid feel but I like both. Milled' said cord grip is a nice added touch over the tr 1966

Wow. I am so happy I decided to jump on one of these early. This was an extremely short production run. Sucks for everyone who did not order one in time, but a smart move by Ping. It's good news for everyone trying to sell one on BST also.

I ordered mine on 4/25 and it arrived on the east coast last night. Anser, star shot finish, 1 degree up, blackout grip. Absolute beaut. Took it to the range last night and rolled it for a bit. Good feel that puts a nice roll on the ball. So glad I got one before orders got canceled. Will post some pictures soon with an awesome head cover I recently picked up. The only thing I don't like is the grip. It is very small. Going to switch it out for my preferred Golf Pride Players Wrap. All that said, not sure it kicks out the Odyssey Protype #2 that I am currently putting great with, but this will always have a place as a backup. Love the look of this putter so much.

Special shout out to Puppet who's pictures spurned my purchase :)

Interesting development with the limited nature of the Anser. So it sounds like custom orders are getting cancelled. I wonder if one can even order a starshot anser anymore?

You can always buy an OTR and send it out to Ping to get your custome options

This is true, but the only stock is the stock that is out there right now.

When you say custom, do you mean length and lie or do you mean finish, site lines and sound slots?

I mean a custom Anser directly from Ping in the starshot finish "wonder if one can even order a starshot anser anymore". But it sounds like there are no more TR 1966 Ansers available from Ping.

I wonder why Ping didn't state that the 1966 Anser was a limited edition, sure would have had people scrambling around trying to buy one or two, even for 'investment' purposes........maybe that was why?

Maybe it was also a test of the waters to look at the viability of releasing the eyemark milled ansers?......yes please!
