Ping Anser TR 1966

I wonder why Ping didn't state that the 1966 Anser was a limited edition, sure would have had people scrambling around trying to buy one or two, even for 'investment' purposes........maybe that was why?

Maybe it was also a test of the waters to look at the viability of releasing the eyemark milled ansers?......yes please!

Actually they did state it from the beginning. Well, the PING reps told all of us account holders that they were a limited run as a 50th anniversary edition of the Anser. It's why I ordered one of each.

It sounds like they were having a hard time keeping up with the orders as is, so I agree with Corky in saying that they may have sold many more if they would have told the general public that this was a limited release. Don't get me wrong though. I like the fact that they did not flood the market with these. It makes us guys who were lucky enough to get our hands on one feel like we are in the Illuminati and in a couple years people will be like this when they see us on the putting greens:

It's so difficult to decide upon whether to buy the 34" or 35" length. I'm 181 cm and bend over the ball a normal amount but hav locked knees ie basically straight legs when I putt. Most putters are 34" (OTR anyway) these and that feels good but I feel somewhat more relaxed with the 35" however don't seem to hole as many short putts (when I try it in the store anyway). Don't have the possibility to try it on longer putts unfortunately as this is a store in the town... Eager to get one of these before they vanish...

Help me :)

Edit. Talking about the Anser TR 1966 now :)

Edit 2: I guess the correct lenght for a putter would be one that lets your arms hang freely. The 34 feels a little bit "reachy" so maybe the 35 is good then... Can always cut it short if for some reason it feels wrong later on. :)

Actually switching to the Anser 2. Im not as big on the sound slot as I thought I was. I like the more solid, click feel without the sound slot. And that PVD finish on the Anser is horrible. Although I love the color it is already wearing heavily on the sole just from taking the head cover on and off.

I may buy another new Anser just to hang on the wall if I can find a new one. Sold my first one to buy an Anser 2.

Stay Tuned...

Fortunately golfwrx is an awesome place and someone on here messaged me that they have the starshot anser with a sightline on the top that I was wanting to order. It's on it's way to me now. I was running around to different stores trying to find one in stock before then and it wasn't going well. I found one at dicks and the hosel was already twisted and bent forward. I was a bit concerned about my ability to find a decent one.

Glad there are some great people on here.

After reading everyones post about this putter, I'm ready to buy the TR 1966 Anser 2 33" and pull the grip and replace it with the New Ping PP62 (black-blue) mid-size grip. The Ping black mid-size grip which is standard on this putter weighs in at 80 grams, and the New black-blue non-taper PP62 weighs 52 grams. Thinking better head feel.

Sorry SC, but for the money, Anser TR1966 for me. After a 1/2 dz. rounds, still love her, @ 1/2 the price of SC. Great looks and feel!

Ended up selling my anser and anser 2. The thin topline of the anser 2 was not working for me. And the anser with sound slot felt off to me and kinda cheap sounding when struck. Just my opinion. They do however have such a classy look.

We cannot be friends. The thin topline of the Anser 2 is exactly why I bought it, and I like the feel of the sound slotted Anser better, to the extent I might send my Anser 2 back to Ping for a slot.

Man I just didn't like the sound slot. Had an Anser Milled "0" that I sold as well. With the slot it just feels hollow to me. The '66 Anser 2 is so much more solid feeling at contact. Actually looking at picking up a Pat Pending Anser 2 from eBay to see if I like the lighter head. But the '66 Anser 2 does put such a good roll on the ball.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Anser 2 a lot, there's just a click from the slot that I like. The grooves were a main reason I got these putters for sure.

I just got the anser at joe and leighs. I was making everything and the "Ping" sound it makes due to the sound slot is amazing. I usually play a 34 inch putter with a winn 1.60 grip. But this one was 35 with the standard grip on it straight OTR. I was making everything and didn't want to mess with it until I take it to the course and see how she does there. I also believe this putter will fade over time which is exactly what I want. I highly recommend this putter if you are in the market for an update on a timeless putter that you could bag for a lifetime. The one thing I do not like is the head cover. I have a custom head cover that I replaced the stock one with but it could be a lot better to me its plain.

We can be friends -- I love the thin top line. So glad I didn't sell mine -- she made everything in the living room so I took her on the course yest and had 9 putts on front. Yes 9. We have tiny greens and two were from fringe so 3 zero putts.
