Life of a Conditional Web.com Member

Canada Q School was ultimately a failure even though I got conditional status. Now I have conditional status on two tours but not a high possibility of getting into any events. I'm hoping my Canada Status or at least my Web.com Status will get me some events on any tours, but its a waiting game for now. I fought through back pain at least and managed to shoot ok scores down at Carlton. Thanks for the well wishes everybody.

I'm glad my back is only muscular and a chiropractic adjustment should fix the tightness. Off to North Carolina Friday, should be a good few days and hopefully Monday is magical.

He will be flying to NC Friday and try to Monday Q and is staying with one of our own WXR's who was gracious enough to offer to host him and caddy..... So kind. Maybe he will bring him the little bit of luck he needs. :)

I'm not sure about the luck part but I'll do what I can to help Matt while he is here in NC.

Someone asked about what courses in NC, Agatha started the answer, here is some additional information for those that are interested.

~ Pinewild Country Club (Magnolia Course) -- Par 72 -- 7446 yards -- Yardage Book

~ Legacy Golf Links -- Par 72 -- 7004 yards -- 3D Flyover

I'm hoping Pinewild CC, I like long, tough courses.

Not sure what Nike is paying you or if they even are to be using their clubs and ball. I personally would rather play what I'm comfortable with unless Nike is paying me life changing money.

Seems like at the lower levels you would make more money playing clubs you are in love with as opposed to be forced to change clubs every year in exchange for pocket change from Nike.

If they were paying for all my travel expenses I would give them a try. Just free clubs and balls? NO.

I've heard a lot of good things about Pinewild CC, I've heard less about Legacy Golf Links but that doesn't make it a bad track.

#1 he said earlier they don't pay him but he does get free equipment and gear. #2 what makes you so sure he's not comfortable with Nike? he's said he's used Nike products since his college days, sounds pretty comfortable to me! #3 if you don't play at his level what makes you think anyone cares about your "Debbie downer" opinions? take that somewhere else.

Thanks man. Nike stuff is fantastic. I've played it since senior year of college...so over 6 years now. The best players in the world also play Nike, they are doing something right if so many players like Nike clubs. But, clubs are a personal choice and whatever one hits best is the clubs they should use. It is very very difficult to get paid by any company at lower levels. I've heard that even companies like Taylormade are getting harder and harder to even get free gear.

Are you planning to stay on the East Coast for a while?

If you can make it up to NJ, you can use the practice facilities at Fiddlers Elbow, which are pretty damn good if I don't say so myself! Plus I am sure a couple in the Pittsburgh area might like to see you as well! ;)

Thanks for the offer. Not this time because if I don't Monday into the Rex Hospital Open then I fly back to California to play in the local US Open Qualifier.

Good luck in Raleigh, Matt!

I just tugged something in my lower back at the golf course and was convinced it was BAD. Turned out to be muscular and a local chiropractor was able to help a lot with an adjustment. Seems that hip mobility is an issue when you walk a lot and then swing a golf club every once in awhile. I found a good website with a bunch of exercises that are helping me keep it loose and strong. Here it is if you're interested:

Yes and it looks like a very likely chance he is in the field for the Abierto Mexicano event the week of May 16th with his web status. It would take 3 web guys with higher ranking to bump him at this point and with that event in 11 days I doubt he will get bumped.

Besides Nike providing clothes and clubs, do they kick in anything in terms of paying for events, travelling etc?

Not at my level. They give a yearly bonus depending what tour you are on. (PGA Tour and Web.com tour). And that money helps pay for travel.

Does Nike restrict their clothing deals on all levels with regards to other sponsors and logos? Or are lower level guys allowed to pursue and sell space on their person?

Fantastic thread! Best of luck this season and looking forward to seeing your career progress!

Any Nike guys on contract restrict other sponsors logos on your bag. Since I am with Nike, I only can wear Nike clothing and that goes for all Nike players. The staff bag is the place that Nike allows sponsors logos. Some guys (the most paid guys) can have a entire bag logo'd by a sponsor. I am allowed to have a spot on the front with one logo.

I've heard Nike pays the most of any company and thats why the players get all decked out in the Nike logo and nothing else since the compensation is so good. NIke doesn't allow sponsor logs on any hats or clothing.

Some great posts, thanks very much for sharing, it's a rare that for us here.

With regard to sponsorship, are these guys tied down to a long term contract, like 3 or 4 years? Allowing them to get a nice bit of support but stopping them moving on as soon as they turn pro?

I'm sure Matt will answer this once he gets the chance to take a look at it. I'm not sure what he can and can't share about his Nike contract due to the tied in confidentiality agreement.

I'll answer this one for him, all Nike players who are on contract are head to toe Nike and allowed one logo on the bag, that can be a sponsor or it can be club or a college logo. Matthew has his UC Davis logo on his bag.

He does have to keep his specific contract information confidential as that is in the contract.

I can tell you Nike is awesome and generous and I am blown away by how well they take care of him.

My Nike contract is three years. I'm sure club and clothing companies vary with regard to level and current stable of players. But, contracts are still yearly things since there are clauses which can void the contracts if anything is broken between the player or the company. In regard to a previous post #383
