You are young. Drop all this, move to Hawaii and surf & golf all day and go to Q school when it pops up. If you don't make it, so be it. That's what I would do.

Move away from family with no plan and hope for the best. Life advice not built on solid ground. Sure, pro golf is challenging but havIng no plan is planning to fail.

Hopefully the positivity in this thread provides a bump in energy and confidence that Matt can use to realize his dream.

Have you stared in my PGA Tour app. Will be following along and pulling for you!

Wow, I just saw the post that so many of you came to Matthew's defense.. So touched by the support and kind words from you all for him.

I won't even bother with a response to that post as it's just not needed.

For those of you interested we woke up early and I ran him over to the course so he could do his practice round with a couple of his friends. Tyler Light from Ohio is one of them, super nice kid. Course looks beautiful, he wanted to play 18 this am, have lunch and then maybe head out and play a few more holes where he wants to be sure he has his distances right. He was at 6000 elevation in Mexico so it will be different here at Sea level, personally I have no idea how difficult of easy of an adjustment that is to switch like that. I imagine for them, no big deal.

He was assigned a caddy and his caddy was going to come out today for the practice round as well.

He got bumped last night from the next 2 weeks events so his scenario is uncertain. If he can get a top 20 this week he will be in field next week, he also will do the Monday Q to try to play his way in, or if someone drops in the web group then he could get back in. He also had to email the USGA and request a sectionals site change which he got to them in the nick of time. He will likely get assigned SFO which is fine as he knows the courses there.

And I just cannot not say something to the member on here who sent Matthew a gift card for the restaurant attached to the hotel... He wishes to remain anonymous but the thoughtfulness of that gesture is just so amazing and so kind and its people like you that make a difference in the lives of young pros..

So thank you!!!!

Don't give this troll the responses that he is wanting for. Ignore him and he will go away.

Eehhh, he did make the post at 3:10am. I'll give him the credit that he was just hammered drunk and posting out of spite and/or jealousy. Hopefully he sobers up and comes in to apologize.

Back to the topic at hand... Play well, Matt!

The problem is that a majority of his posts seem to be trolling. (at least that's the way it feels) So either he is a troll, or he is drunk most of the time.

Matt, sorry to pollute the thread. Play well this week. How often do you get up into the Pacific NW? I don't know how many tournament options there even are up here.

I don't understand the point of flying all over the globe spending thousands of dollars to make $0, miss cuts, and play on obscure tours. There's hundreds of people doing this. Insanity.

The dudes on Web.com are shooting -21 and still are not making any money.

This all seems like a pipe dream. You are young. Drop all this, move to Hawaii and surf & golf all day and go to Q school when it pops up. If you don't make it, so be it. That's what I would do.

Yes there are people doing this who aren't going to get there but this kid clearly has game and talent. Much more than yourself. I feel sorry for your wife, or husband.

Sometimes I wish OPs had authority to remove posts from their threads. Last thing this kid needs to see when he logs in next.

You will have to deal with haters no matter what you do in life. Just keep working hard and then they can envy you more when it all pays off. Sounds like you have a great support system Matt and that is what is key to having the opportunity to achieve what you are trying to do. Haven't seen you play but it sounds like you have a great chance at accomplishing your goals. Keep on grinding and a positive attitude and it will fall into place.

I guess I just wish WRX could be more of a sanctuary than an episode on Jerry Springer at times.

I hope it all comes together for him this week though. Been pulling for the kid since I started reading about him. All it takes is one win to really get things going. I think a lot of us are living vicariously through him.

That's the truth. I can't shoot mid-60s in competition and Matt surely can. I'm hoping that he catches a good vibe and flow and pushes through!

Most of the NW "majors" (WA Open, OR Open, NW Open, Rosauers, etc) are for section pros and solid ams (PGA club pros), but there are a few opens or invitationals with decent purses.

It appears I had a Debbie Downer on this thread. Yes it is difficult doing the profession I am chasing and yes some weeks or years you lose money. I would say its the toughest sport you can attempt to make a living at because we aren't guaranteed a paycheck like other athletes are. But, that is what I love about it and I don't see myself doing anything else. Our living is based strictly on performance, and based on my previous tournaments, I have what it takes to make it.

And thank you to all of you who came to my defense and cheer me on and follow my progress. It's people like you who support us young golfers financially and even with just encouragement that make it possible for guys like me to continue to pursue our dream.

I want to give a shout out to an anonymous member who follows this thread. He sent a gift card that will pay for some meals this week at the hotels restaurant. Anything and everything helps and I want to thank him for his generosity. This golfwrx community is a pretty great place.

Tomorrow at 140 I begin my first round. I plan on the guy who shot 5 under on Friday last week to show up everyday this tournament. Lets get that win.

Pro golf not so much since there isn't anything big, the only event would be the Web.com event thats in Oregon in a few months. During my amateur years I always played at the Sahalee championship.

Is the Hooters Tour still around? Are there benefits to playing the Latin American and Candian Tours over that? From what I remember, the payouts seemed pretty good on that tour and travel was pretty simple.

Travel is easy, it's not crazy expensive as long as the US dollar is strong compared to the other currency. No more Hooters tour but any PGA sanctioned tour has it's q school and web benefits as I've mentioned before.

Is the Hooters Tour still around?

In 2015 the Swing Thought Tour bought out the Hooters Tour and the eGolf Tour.

And the Swing Thought tour said they would continue a West Coast connection like the Etour but they have yet to do so. Etour was doing a great job as well so that was a huge bummer. Golden State is the only really decent mini tour group in California.

Ah that explains why it is now Play-by-Play, thanks.
