Fun trip, made it to Fresno by 630 and met up with Matthew and 2 other guys in tournament (both had missed cut) and it was his teammate from Davis Bday so we all had a nice meal. Found out the 3 of them all shared a hotel room and Matthew took the pullout sofa, the other guys joked that they should have opted for it since they missed cut. Anyway, fun dinner onto hotel sleep and up early as he had an early tee time. It was 2 somes and they had carts so it was fast and Megan did not caddy. It was nice to be pared with a guy from Oregon state whom we knew and his buddy who caddied for him (also missed cut).

Round was over by 11 and we were back home by 2.

Top 15 at this event get exempt into the So Cal Open next month, Matthew was already exempt so he didn't need that but I imagine it was good for some guys to get that.

I have your same gaps in wedges. 105-112 is my gap. Hard to get my GW to go high and short of target. Choke down or take something off?

It all depends on the situation. If I need to spin something I go hard at the less club to get it to go that distance. If there is no need to try to spin it, I chock up a little and shorten my swing. In certain situations I am able to hit my wedges as short or as far as I have to. For example I played a 125 yard SW in my second round, I could've used a PW or 52 from here but it was slightly downwind and long was no good. I hit the club that had zero chance of going long, plus it ended up just 9 feet away.

For wedges you want to be able to have a stock shot (a favorite shot for each club). Me its 60 yards with a 60 degree, 85 yards with a 56 degree and 105 yards with a 52 degree (each of those swings is what I call a 3/4 swing).

Another good week. Congrats.

Good luck on the next tournament.

How often do you carry the 2 iron vs switching it out with hybrids?

Only asking because very few carry 2 irons these days....but I like you style.

I use my 2 iron as an alignment stick.

Hi Matt-

What's a typical workout like for you? Is your gym regime Brandel Chamblee approved?

I actually have hired someone professional to put together a plan for me.

http://www.pacificfitnesshealth.com/janet_alexander

Janet, in the link below works with many professional athletes. She located weaknesses in my body to improve not only my swing but also prevent any future injuries. I have specific stretches to loosen my hips, quads, back, and hamstrings as well as exercises to strengthen these areas.

Specific training is great and I also do other explosive exercises such as clean and jerk, back and front squats, and lunges. Since golfing is an explosive, fast and short movement I do exercises that enhance that. For the average person any type of workouts are beneficial, especially lower body and core.

I only have a 2 iron. When I first went to the oven 6 years ago when I still was using a 2 iron I tried the hybrids but I could never get fit into one since my ball flight is so high. The most powerful guys on tour hit 2 irons (Tiger however has no spin on his ball thats why he uses a 5 wood, at least thats what they told me at Nike)

Great work Matthew, keep it up!

Which club do you normally use out of green side bunker and what is the bounce of it?

I use a 60 degree with a bounce of 10 for high soft shots. I uses a 56 with a bounce of 14 for the longer or mid range shots.

If you will be playing at the United Leasing Championship in Indiana I would love to help out. I am starting my professional journey this year and am waiting to hear back on an exemption for the ULC. I live/grew up an hour up the road from Victoria National. I would loop for the week or help out anyway if you'd be interested. Good Luck this season!!

If any members have any questions please feel free to ask.

For starters, thank you for taking the time to make/update this thread. As a hack golfer, I love getting the insight of what it is like competing on the various tours.

My question is, how did you get started in the game? And what do you think is the best way to get a junior in to the game?

Thanks again for the time.
