Congrats on making your decision and getting licensed so quickly. As others have said, your work ethic will certainly transfer into the "real world" and I think you'll find great success in RE. I made a career change last year into real estate as well (exporting business took a dive in 2016...) and I can't recommend enough to invest in a website and google/adwerks advertising. Just $1k/month has netting me a $70k return this year and we still have 3 months left. Real estate does take time to begin paying off, give it a year at least. I know some of you guys on here may be wondering what I've been up to, well here it goes.

 

As you know I made the decision to pursue a job and end golf, at least for the time being. I may get my amateur status back and try to dominate the mid am levels..who knows. Looking and finding a job was a pain but a about a month and half ago I accepted a job through a temp agency. The company is called Biocare medical and it is a leader in auto histochemistry devises as well as cancer detection products. The customer service department was willing to take a risk on someone with no experience in a role that would be Invoicing. I picked up the position pretty quickly and took on more tasks in the first three weeks. I realized how boring and easy this job was, the pay was good for how easy it was however I wanted more. I noticed on the job board an opening in the Accounting department for the Accounts Receivable position. I approached one of the "C" suiters, the CCO in this case, and told her I was interested in this position as I had an Econ background and I was familiar with the system they used.

 

She got the ball rolling and last week I was offered and accepted the position for AR getting an hourly rate of 27 plus full benefits. A fantastic position that will have a lot more responsibility and will look great on my resume. The company does around $750,000 to $1,000,000 worth of sales per month so the AR collects and is responsible for large sums of money. December 9th is my first official day and I'm looking forward to learning.

I wanted to share an update with everyone as GolfWRX has been a part of my life and my journey. As many of you know I stopped pursuing pro golf back in October 2019 and took up a job at Biocare Medical. The temp customer service job turned into a full time position with benefits as the Accounts Receivable Specialist. I have been working in the accounting department since middle of December and I am still enjoying it. Very thankful during this pandemic to still have the job as they have transitioned me to work from home. I hope everyone on here is staying safe and healthy.

 

What I have enjoyed most is what has come from getting the job. With a job came financial stability and with financial stability came a life changing event. I was able to propose to my girlfriend of two years in February at a winery in Napa. We have moved into together in a condo that as he purchased in the East Bay and are absolutely loving life. It was a tough decision to give up golf but I have no regrets especially with what is in store for me now.

Thanks so much. There is only one thing I would've done different. The year I had conditional Web.com membership I decided to do a couple PGA tour mondays and a couple Web mondays and then head up to the Mackenzie Tour for the summer. Given what I know now and how 1 monday qualifier and 1 good event can change a season, I would've chased every single Monday across the country. Other than that my team and I had a great game plan.

and i would say good timing on career change with CV virus around........... it's going to be a much bigger pain for guys trying to climb the golf ladder now.

2 technical questions,

 

1) can you monday qualify pga tour/web and then play web/canada that week? or does monday qualifying tie u to the higher level event for that week?

2) how do you become eligible to enter monday qualify?... i have definitely seen pre-qualify for pga and maybe KF events too........ is the criteria being a member of a pga tour?

I want to give a shout-out to @Forged4ever for the kindest post. I teared up as I read the kind words written. It has truly been a blessing sharing the journey I went on and I would love to provide an update. 
 

Today a video was posted by UC Davis athletics Twitter to YouTube that inducted me officially into the Athletic Hall of Fame. It’s a huge honor and I want to thank all my coaches and teammates because without them I couldn’t have done it. Go check it out on my Twitter or at this link.

Im sure some of you are wondering if I still play golf. I do and in fact can still manage to shoot under par...some of the time. Haha. I try to get out and play 18 holes a couple times a month. I might go hit 40 balls the day before I play but gone on the days of grinding on the range. I did manage to shoot -4 on a short PAR 34 2300 yard course. Still have some game. The big news is I did apply to get my amateur status back. So watch out mid am level golf in March 2021. 
 

Outside of the occasional round I will have been working for the company Biocare Medical for 1 entire year coming up in October. It’s giving me a steady paycheck and some enjoyment in the corporate world. My fiancé and I are preparing for our wedding next July, and we are hoping things are more back to normal. We are both fortunate to still be working and still have somewhat normal lives. I also decided to join a real estate brokerage in Walnut Creek. I am officially able to represent buyers and sellers in the state of California. I hope to grow that business and be able to pursue it full time. 
 

So, there you have it, my life update coming off my 29th birthday yesterday. Life is good and I’m blessed for all the opportunities I’ve had in life.

Thats great that you got your real estate license as that gives ya some flexibility professionally!!

 

Lord only knows what the "new normal" is or is going to be, however you all will most likely be able to have a wedding more to what you both want by July '21.

 

I was talkin to your Mother and we can't wait till March 2021 rolls around so we can start a Mid-Am thread, lol?

 

Nathan remembers meeting you and your Mother at the Am, he said to say hey and congratulations on your engagement and he can't believe that you're approaching 30 and hittin the "ole Man's Tour," lolol.

I followed your journey for a while and recently stumbled back on it. I am glad to hear everything is going well with you. I have a buddy on the Korn ferry tour and he even made the pga for one year. I know how difficult of a life that is and glad you were able to make the decision you did and be happy with it.

 I am in Florida and have been looking to get into real estate.   I can get a web site done.  Do you gain listings or clients by using adwords or just get interested buyers?  Thanks for any help.  I tried to get a job at a local club and muni course but they were not hiring.

A big shout-out and congratulations to Matthew for picking up as a Mid-Am where he left off as a collegiate Am, medaling in his first tourney out of the gates since being reinstated, the NCGA Mid-Am Championship Qualifier!! On the bag was his Lovely Fiancée, Christy, who I have no doubt, kept him calm, in the present and with just a smile, let him know that it's just a game and to just have some fun. 

Not to speak for Matthew, however I'm guessin that it was a pretty fun day😉😃

 

It's nice when my starred "Favorite" also happens to be at the top of the Leader Board, lolol😂😂🤙

 

Also a shout-out to Mama Bear @agathaHansen, as I have missed our intra-tourney exchanges and tryin to calm your nerves, of which I have been a massive failure😂🤗😘

Mom is a happy camper because I have missed golf so much.  I plan to go spectate at the championship which is at poppy hills in pebble beach one of my favorite places to visit.   Its been a minute since I've watched golf!!!  Christy will be on the bag for him again.   He is lucky to have found someone who will support him and his love for golf.

Its been awhile since myself or Matthew has posted on this thread.. Life is moving forward as it does.  Matthew will have been Married for a year this July.  He has a golf trip planned in Sept with a buddy to go to Scotland and play as many courses as possible in 5 days (I think)..  He is playing the NCGA mid am next weekend.. My once a year golf fix so you bet I am going..  But the reason I am posting is because a very good friend out ours son is making his pro debut on the Canadian tour this weekend.  His name is Jack Avrit and Matthew has known Jack since Matthew was in 3rd grade.  They played golf together over the years and in a way Matthew was a bit of a mentor to Jack when he was younger.  Jack just finished up his golf career at Santa Clara University.   Yesterday was his pro debut.  Richard is starting a thread for Jack and his family which will be posted soon.  Here are a couple of pics from the past.. Jack is far left and Matthew far right.  The tiny one is Owen Avrit who is Jacks brother and having a stand out college career for the Oregon Ducks currently.
