The 6 Hybrid

I like the specs of the Ping as to shaft length - it is more in line with a 6i, which should help with consistency. Ping has packed new tech into their hybrids and it is one I would demo if in the market. What I have never cared for in the Ping is the flat sole. When you are going through rough, I think you want less mass, and a rounded sole helps in that regard. But I'd definitely demo them.

I have to admit that I'd love to know how you hit a 115 yd 6H and get it to check 🙂

Its certainly not rock hard, US open 13.5 stimp greens. Add in fact of severely sloped back to front greens....and you too can accomplish the 6hyb check up from 115yds

My 3, 4, and 5 hybrids work very well for me and I wouldn't think of replacing them with long irons or fairway woods. So much so that I'm thinking of adding a 6 hybrid this year.

Glad to see others using one.

I will say after a long range session a 6i is straighter.  Not as high and not as easy out of the rough vs 6h

The 6H (probably) has a lower COG, which helps out of the rough versus the iron.

This article got me to thinking about getting a 6 hybrid, then a G 410 6 hybrid came up on EBAY, soooo. It will be here next week. I am so pleased with the Ping G410 hybrids, best clubs I have ever hit. I can hit my PXG 6 iron decent, but the confidence of the G410 is "out of world." If I find the PXG 6 iron  is just as long? Who knows!

Wow - nice thread resurrection! It's been almost 5 years (5 FRICKIN YEARS!) since I posted here and that 913H 27* has become a go to club in my bag.

Hit 'em high, hit 'em low, off the tee, from the fairway, from the rough, from the bunker. TBH the 913H 21* has been in my bag even longer, top top hybrids.

I picked up a used Taylormade Gapr Hi 5 (25*) hybrid last night. I’m planning on turning up the loft to 26.5* which is I believe the max it can go. This puts it in strong loft 6-iron territory.  Cant wait to hit it this season.

Found some old Nike Sumo 2  hybrids, a 30* 6 & a 34* 7, laying around my local Play It Again Sports last fall. You know, that ugly square version. Really decent shape, priced at about $20. What the heck I thought, what's $20 for any used club that may perform. Did a quick check on Ebay, etc and say this damn hybrid at 34* was almost impossible to find, and when you did find one, it was typically beat to heck, and the asking price was north of $175.00. So, needless to say I grabbed it right there, and after about 2 practice shots at the range I just couldn't believe how damn easy it was to hit high, straight, and relatively long for a 7 hybrid. Shot after shot this ugly duckling produced the same shot effortlessly. Went back that evening, and bought the 6 hybrid version, and got basically the same kind of results. Don't let your ego get in the way of playing a more forgiving club that you might currently have in your bag.

My Ping 6 410 hybrid came in today and I compared it to my Gen2 XF 6 iron, both graphite shafts. The hybrid is at least 1 inch longer, if a little bit more, and the face of the 6 hybrid is way open compared to the iron. I am going to carry both the hybrid and iron. When the wind is in my face, I will pick the 6 iron. Ping shafts in their hybrids are dead on for me. I love the heavier senior shafts that they use, 70 grams is perfect in the 410. I wish other manufacturers would use shafts this good, love the new Slate shafts, amazing. Ping is having a great year with the 425 line up.

Better late than never to the hybrid party I suppose.

I have added ping g25 hybrids in 23, 27 and 31. I have them all shafted up with 85g stiff flex shafts. I hit these things so we’ll I’m not sure what to do with the rest of my set. Mid bag has gone from a weakness to a strength in my bag in a few short weeks!

I am torn on whether or not I need my 7 iron anymore.

I’m telling myself it’s time to add more hybrids. This game is brutal enough as it is.

Currently have an Apex 21* with a ventus blue 8s. Then I move into irons (mavrik pro 5i-AW with Accra i series 115). The Apex is 210 yds for me all day. Hilariously easy to hit off the tee as well. I’ve hit 235 off the tee with a little help from the wind.

I can get 200 ish with the 5i but it’s hit and miss on the consistency (I’m at a 10 handicap currently). Freaks me out whenever I pull it out of the bag lol.

Rrreeaaalllyyy want the 5h. Only thing holding me back is the price.

I'm becoming a bit of a fan of the Mizuno JPX Fli-Hi. They are direct iron replacements as they have the same length shaft as an iron, ie 1" shorter than most hybrids. Nice feel too.

And only $125 a pop.

Glorious, I got a fat bag for beer drinking Sundays. The Gmax 6 and 7 don't have big enough butts so I have some big booty Adams. All these clubs go a mile and send a chunk of grass a mile. I consider them all hybrids.

Still experimenting with shafts in the Srixon 29* driving iron vs the stock zx7 6i vs a g20 half driving iron club which is 27* (very easy to launch but lots of offset to look at)

I do have the ZU85 26* driving iron as well (it is marked 5) and will play around with this also

No doubt a hybrid is better out of the rough and off the tee from 190 but get me in a fairway and visually I prefer the stock iron look for thin sole and smaller size
