Callaway XR 16 driver, is it that good?

Is it that good? Considering all the benefits of the gravity core and fine tuning weights (I'm referring to the Double Black Diamond driver), why is it that virtually all the Callaway staff players and some non Callaway staff players are playing the XR 16 driver? Is there anyone out there that has compared the two and also how does it compare to the M1? (Which seems hugely popular)

Agree with the XR and the XR16 being of similar for average golfers - this is what i have seen on the monitors on side by side comparisons. Poster #2 speaking of the Cobra F6 - completely agree.

I haven't hit the 16 yet, but the first generation of the XR is that good. Better for me than DBD, GBB, Bio Cell+, SLDR, and a few others.

The head is rather light, but some strategically placed Hotmelt fixed that. 6-10 grams (dependent on playing length) low and forward made this head a low spin monster with excellent feel and good acoustics.

All new offerings are good enough to try.

Xr was good.

But as filks stated, F6 was impressive.

I will not ditch out my r15 for F6.

But, if something happen to r15, I will buy F6 for sure.

XR is a solid 10-15 yards shorter than the XR16. It is THAT much better than the original. I'm between the XR16 and GBB at the moment. Hopefully I'll make the final decision after my round tomorrow.

Well compared to my 915D2 the new xr16 is about 10-15yds longer and comparable solid hits--BUT xr16 is also very accurate and long on misfits. Extremely impressed. Went from 245-250ish on 915D2 to 265-275 w XR16 Fuji 665 shaft. Hot boring baby fade.

I've hit the XR16, the Ping G and the M2. Out of those, I definitely did like XR16 the best. It just had an extremely dynamic feel about it. However, if I do want to change up the big stick in the near future, my eyes are definitely on either the Cobra King LTD or the Srixon z545 which is an amazing feeling driver.

The only reason why the XR would be 15 yards shorter than the XR16 is because the XR wasn't optimized in terms of Fitting. Optimize them both and the differences are so negligible as to make no difference. No technology can improve by 15 yards in a year. Not without the previous model not being optimally fit in the first place.

On several occasions, I demo'd XR 16 and XR 16 Pro against all the new drivers and the XR 16 Pro was in 3rd place behind my M1. With that being said, the Cobra King Ltd Pro kicked the M1 out of the bag easily.

XR 16 is a good driver for sure, but spin just was a little to high for me, even after trying several shafts in it.

I wanted to love the XR 16 Pro so I could get a Callaway driver. I sure hope the King Ltd is as good as the demo because it is hard for me to have mostly Callaway in my bag then have a Cobra driver. Callaway h/c will be covering the King though.

A lot of positive opinions for the Cobra F6. Is the F6 that much better than the Fly Z+ and what about the F6 compared to the F6+ ? I've demoed the Cobra LTD and was very, very impressed. Very straight and easy to hit and but it seemed long and low spin according to the crappy simulator at Golf Galaxy.

Are you guys talking about F6 or F6+?

Standard F6, hopefully mine turns up today!

In regards to above post, I did hit the Fly Z at the same time, and the F6 did go slightly further with much better sound and feel than the Z

I have been a Callaway guy for a year, but to be honest, the M1 was longer than the GBB, 815 DBD and the XR for me. I own or owned all 4. With respect to the F6, I saw a Rick Shiels video on that club. He was killing it, but only if he hit it above the equator. You ought to watch it if you haven't seen it. He like the F6 better than the F6+, even though the F6 has more adjustment options.

Well, I guess I'll have to disagree with you as I was fitted for all 3 drivers and the XR16 was hands down a better performing driver in every area. It's not like I'm buying 3 of them off the rack and just going out and hacking it around the course. To each their own though, and every driver works differently for every individual. I'm not knocking the M1, the F6, or any other drivers on the market. All I do know is that after seeing everything on the range, on the computers, etc., the true test was passed today on the course. Ended up hitting 11 of 12 fairways where I pulled driver and I absolutely smoked 3 of them much further than I am used to. I sold my GBB to my friend by the 12th hole (no exaggeration) via text (we will see if he actually pays). Regardless, the XR16 with the ADDI shaft is staying in my bag for now.

I don't want to come across as obtuse, but the fact still remains that all it really boils down to these days is that, in this case, for you personally, the XR16 just happened to be the Driver that was able to get closest to your optimal numbers. The reason why we see so many posts from people saying this Driver is longer, or that Driver is longer or another Driver is better is purely because that particular Driver they're cooing about, just happens to be the one that gets closest to their optimal numbers, it's not that its better at all. M1, M2, Callaway this that or the other Cobra LTD whatsit, Nike Vapor thingy, Ping G Spot or whatever it is, they're all about finding the one that best gets closest to your optimal numbers, not which one is actually better at all. The XR16 fits you best, and that's great for you, but in reality it's no better than anything else out there.

Never know until you try it for yourself, but what I can tell you is that it would be well worth your time and effort to test drive it. When fit properly, it can produce distance on par with anything else, but does so while still offering tremendous forgiveness. For me, it may spin a bit more than optimum, but when that little bit of extra spin comes with help to keep my worst swings from costing me strokes that's great.

I hit the XR 16 and it felt very similar to the XR. I actually like the way the XR sits behind the ball better because it's a good bit smaller than the 16. I have yet to hit the XR 16 Pro, but hope to do that either tonight or some time this week. Right now my sights are set on either the LTD Pro or Nike Vapor Fly Pro, but I've always liked Callaway clubs so we will see how it performs.

Numbers don't lie, but something about the feeling I didn't like, almost felt nothing when the ball was hit and somewhat "empty." Not the typical muted feel and their crack or thud, just without feeling and especially if slightly off-center. FWIW I am rarely below 1.49!smash on flight-scope.
