So its Arcadia Bluffs, Forest Dunes......AND???

Recommended Posts

Looking for advice for that 3rd course. Booked for May 11th -15th.

*Get in late on 11th (9pm) so that day is shot. We booked flying into Detroit and flying back out of Grand Rapids to ease the driving.

Forest Dunes on the 13th and Arcadia Bluffs on the 14th. Staying on site at both locations.

Thursday the 12th is the question mark??? The current plan is to get up early on the 12th and head toward Lansing and check out Eagle Eye?? (Seems highly rated..?) Then north to Forest Dunes. *We know it adds around an hour to the drive the straight up...

I am wondering is there any better course options to hit going the route noted. We don't want to go much further north then Forest Dunes for this trip.

Also what do you think we can expect for the weather? Last year it ranged from 60's - to almost 80's during the same time?

Shepherds Hollow in Clarkston would be a good choice, though there's not a direct route to get there from DTW.

If you have any UM affiliation, you might look at the UM course in Ann Arbor too.

Bucks Run is also a good choice.

Weather in May is always a crap shoot (could be 40 degrees and rainy or 80 and sunny), but given courses up here in MI appear to be opening early, you are probably ok to at least get out and play. Arcadia will be windy regardless. Bring layers.

Kingsley Club

Assuming you are staying in Metro D upon arrival the 11th, drive time to Kingsley Club on the 12th is 3 1/2 hrs. Then Kingsley to Forest Dunes is 1 1/2. If your willing to fade the windshield time, Kingsley can be arranged. If you want to head directly toward Forest Dunes, play 36 at The Nightmare and The Dream in West Branch then 1/2 hour to FD

Me personally I can fade any windshield time for a great track. Have to see if the other members are interested, but if they are, how would one suggest about "arranging" to play the course??

It's a legit 2 hrs. One of those "can't get there from here" deals.

AB to FD is about 2.0 hours reason we split it up and it gives us a chance on those days to play 36 holes. *Weather and time permitting.

Gailes looks pretty sweet honestly as I love DUNE type courses.

Allow 2:15. It's all 2 lane.

If you're going to be going to GR to play Thousand Oaks, I would recommend driving an extra 25 min north and playing Pilgrims Run. It's a much better track and cheaper.

Eagle Eye is very good, but skip Hawk Hollow.

I'm no expert on the area at all. But I'm in the process of putting together our trip for this summer and we're going to Michigan. Since you're going to be staying at Forest Dunes, have you considered playing the Loop?

Not sure what the "Loop" is. Pardon my ignorance.

EDIT: Sorry I know of Doak's new course called the Loop if that is what you are refer'in too, but its not open until July I thought??

We are ending in GR because we didn't want to finish at AB and have to drive all the way back to Detroit. Plus it allows us to play Sunday before flying out if we decide.

*Questioning if we should have just went GR all around...?? Granted it was only 88.00 a person plus bag fee to Detroit from Denver on Wednesday...???

I saw Pilgrims Run. Looks like a nice track. We would have time I think as flight is not until 3:30 on Sunday.

With the type of courses you seem to enjoy, the choice 10X out of 10 is Kingsley. Sometimes the replay rate is phenomenal compared to the other two and would be my preferred place for 36. On top of that pace of play there will be exceptional no matter what. Openwater has offered to help and that's all the help you'll need! Would love a trip report on this one, always curious how other people rank these 3 against each other.

Sidetrack, is prairie club the really exclusive one in Neb? OW, how do you rate Kingsley compared to PC and stream song? Obviously clubhouse is lacking at KC but what about courses?

I do love links style courses. The course looks amazing. Sure it will eat me up, so better work on the new driver hard in the next 2 months.

Plan on taking a ton of pic's. Will do a follow up when we get back.
