I hear some talk about the i3 blades. I bought a set of them back in 2000 and still play them and love them.

My first set of clubs (25 yrs ago) was a used set of Ping Karsten I irons. I still have them in my closet. I lvoed them and as a beginner at eth tiem, they were forgiving enough to play. When I see pros using Ping, you realize that you do not need to switch to a 'tour blade' to play good golf. I played on those Karsten I irons for 18 years before getting the i3 blades. It was a natural for me. Ping will always have my vote. I may sit here and drool over the Mizuno MP 60 (in fact, even typing that made me drool) but then realize I am already playing a great club that I can work both ways, and when I am not playing as much (for eg, since I left the golf mecca of California, met a girl and got married to a non-golfer), I can still hit them decent until I re-find my swing (which I am happy to say that I am very close to finding again as I recently dropped my handicap from 9.7 to 8.0...so far). It is hard for me to imagine playing somethign other than Ping. Sure, I hate the G5 and rapture iorons but that is because I like my i3 blades. They are as close as you will get to the old Karsten I irons (little offset) so was the most natural switch I could do. I will never kid myself into thinking I will be playing enough again to have the consistent ball striking that a blade would require and besides, when I hit a great iron shot, it feels amazing! I may not get as much feedback on off-center hits but I can still tell when it is not dead center so I may know when I did not 'pure' it but I like still getting most of my shot out of an off center hit. I got as low as a 5 handicap with these irons and after playing 18 yrs on Karsten I, hard to see what would cause me to switch from my current irons.

By the way, what is Ferrule?????? Everybody talks about it on the Ping irons but I have no idea what this is!!!!

Zolex, that's funny, I do hit it further the louder I scream at impact.

I think that Ping's core design , G2, G5, rapture is so good that just refining it is good by me, heck don't fix it if it ain't broke. the G10 looks like it might be a bit longer front to back than the G5, probably giving it a little better MOI #'s ?......I don't know what else they can do with drivers now. It's all about fit and feel. This looks cool but my G5 is working so well I'll ride it out as long as I can.

ace036 it wasn't that I didn't believe you, I was just unsure of the color choice by Ping. Now that I have seen the driver, I actually like the look. I can't wait to see the i10 irons !

Ace,

It had the rapture thud sound and launched higher with a flat trajectory, it realy went out there. It looks nice at address, but I am still sold on my FT-3 with a fuji 757... best driver I have ever hit, I can at least work it both ways, the Ping only goes straiight and maybe with a slight fade, my draw turns into a hard hook fast.

The ferrule is a spacer between the hosel and the shaft (usually a black ring shape). PING is famous (or notorious, depending upon your preference) for not have a ferrule. Strickly speaking, a ferrule is a hold over from the days of wound heads, but for some is it as aesthetic pleasure.

BTW, I think the Raptures and G series are fine looking clubs. If anything the Eye 2+ define the height of PING's cosmetic line...not the I series...but that's just my opinon.

Yup, what Makkyla said:

Ferrule

I first started with a set of Ping Zing 2's. And I loved those shovel heads. Played with them for 5 years, then left to play either TM's or Callaways. I was sucked in by the hype of those clubs and players recommendations.

And I hit a friends G5's - and decided to pick up a set. The pro at Roger Dunn had recommended I try the I5's. And once I swung them, and played a round with them, I was hooked! I forgot how great/smooth of a strike I made with my Pings.

I also played a round of my buddies S58's and compared to the I5's, I love the smaller head, less offset, and workability of those clubs as well. So I picked them up. I now have three different set of Pings (Zing 2, I5's, S58), because I couldn't bring myself to either trade them in or sell them - unlike those TM's and Callaways.

I hear tons of recommendations/accolades about the I3+ Blades. And from previous posts it sounds like they are highly recommended over the I5. Can anyone tell me what specifically was better about it compared to the I5?

Thanks!
