Will Jordan Spieth regain the #1 Official World Golf Ranking in 2016?

I say yes, and I think it will rotate around. I just don't see any of these guys truly having the commitment it would take to pull away from the crowd. And I don't mean that as a critique. Just that there are several guys floating around the top who are all incredibly skilled, and I don't see any of them forsaking everything else in their lives to put in the work it takes to consistently play as well as they possibly can.

I agree. These dudes don't have the singular focus and the drive like Big Cat had. El Tigre wanted to be the best there is plain and simple. These younger guys want have a life outside of golf. H*ll, I don't blame them. If I was in the same position, I'll be the same way.

He's fried, proverbial flash in the pan....he'll be lucky not to be compared with the likes of Ben Curtis, Todd Hamilton and Rich Beem......

Honest question: has anyone been as big of a 'flash in the pan' and fizzled out?

Shaun Micheel and Michael Campbell come to mind.

They didn't come close to achieving what he did last year, if he never wins another thing-

Fairways & Greens My Friend,

RP

Completely agree. This wasn't in reference to Jordan Spieth.

This was a response to potentially bigger flashes in the pan than Ben Curtis, Todd Hamilton, and Rich Beem.

Somebody mentioned David Duval, but I wouldn't consider him a flash in the pan.

...except for David Duval those mentioned were more or less one-win wonders...

i would still consider David the closes to what Jordan has done to date but i'm pretty sure Jordan will last much longer than David did..

IMO anyone in the top 5% of golfers in the world has a ton of talent and also the drive to succeed. You don't get to that level without working your butt off, no matter how much 'natural' talent you are blessed with. Twitter pics of a party on a boat or whatever don't mean diddly, neither does a stretch of relatively mediocre play. Having a swing that isn't text-book also isn't the end of the world. What matters is self-belief and the will to win. I think Jordan has a fair anount of both, he's not going away soon.

First.....you guys realize the "flash in the pan" was total sarcasm? Sorry for sending over your heads.....

2nd , Duval had absolutely no staying power.....was supposed to compete with Tiger,Phil and the likes for more than 5yr window.

Winning a major like those listed to me isn't even a flash.....purely a gift from the golfing gods as they've proven.

You guys really need to follow more on here before making comments. Deciphering the thickly laid on sarcastic overtones is a sense developed with time.

Jordan Spieth has a season for the ages and SHOULD be relevant for a number of years to come.....laid a nice foundation but there are NO guarantees!

This! Absolutely no history of expectations before or after for these guys, hence my "sarcastic" reference to this type of golfer....I guess we as a community MUST refrain from sarcasm as the ones who don't get , are offended easily.

Crazy the way this has gone in a short time aint it?

I was so thankful to be sent home to work full time, people in general are so "weak minded" anymore, could hardly stand being in the office with so many "choades". Although, maybe it was me, and my "open mouth" that caused it.

Sorry to go off topic, and none of this is in any way pointed at any poster in this thread, this general topic has me on edge this morning...lol.

won't be voting for the criminal on the other side, that is for sure.

Number 1 will rotate between the top 3 guys for most of the year. Scott may join them at some stage if he can pluck a major.

I like my golf that way. Drama at the top keeps the game interesting

Yes, Jordan will reclaim the #1 Spot this year-

Please remember when my 9th post on the board(2014, even though I joined in '12 I didn't post till January of 2014) I said two things in a Jordan thread and a few of the putzes/keyboard kommandos who's lack of knowledge of what makes a Champion is only superseded by their own inability to hit a golf ball, but damn, are they wicked on a keyboard, lmao, went bananas. Those two things were......

1) Jordan would win his first Major by 2015

2) Jordan would reach #1 in the world by 2016

Ok, I was off by a few months, lol

Yes, He will reclaim his spot atop the Mountain this year :)

Fairways & Greens My Friends,

RP

You da man, Richie! :)

And you are absolutely spot on regarding Jordan Spieth.

No he won't be. Put simply, Day, McIlroy and even Scott's best golf is far superior to Spieth's best.

Let's see ... Spieth's best (arguably) produced a five victory season which included two majors, a money title, and a FedEx Cup. I guess Adam has yet to show us his best.

IMO Scott's best golf is better. Jordan consistently plays at his best longer than Scott, but Scott has a higher level.

People seem to confuse ball striking with scoring. Scott may have a much prettier swing and outdrive Spieth by 20 yards but Spieth at his best can hole from absolutely anywhere and that is a very rare ability to have.

He was a birdie machine last year because he was so solid at putting his irons in the 20-30 foot territory and he was holing them from there at an incredible rate.

I think he won't get back THIS year but will soon.....

Based on what - expected return to form?

Just checking. I happen to agree with you. He is playing below his average right now and he is still not a million miles away.

I think he tinkered with his swing, traveled too much and is just plain mentally worn out.....kinda reminds of Curtis Strange in the intensity department /pure grinder....who needs to be on all cylinders. ......well most of the time.....when he is on, lookout!

Only 22 soon to be 23....body will change....doesn't seem to be enjoying the game, maybe feeling the pressure of expectations? Just a thought....

Seems like a bit of a pissy guy on the course when things aren't going his way. Easy to be mentally strong when everything is going your way. Needs to chill.

While I admittedly question Rickie Fowler's inclusion in the whole "big 4" thing, If one had to model their on course attitude after someone, IMO Fowler would be an easy choice. So level all the time.
