Chicago golf recommendation

Heading to Rosemont early June and wanted recommendation to a nicer golf course. Thanks!

There is nothing great by Rosemont. Should try Cantigny, it's the best Chicago has to offer in my opinion

Just did a search and came up with Cantigny, Highlands of Elgin, or Orchard Valley? Which of these three would you recommend?

Highlands of Elgin is an awesome track as is Cantigny. I'd leave Orchard Valley out of the mix. You also might consider Dubsdread at Cog Hill which has hosted PGA events.

155 for a public track. steep there. I played Eglin a few years back, really liked it and it was fairly cheap as I recall.

Then I'd suggest Highlands of Elgin. Awesome track, about an hour away, above average practice facility and always in great condition.

Can't argue with HoE or Cantigny. I'd also throw in Bowes Creek (Elgin).

Chicago public is slightly above average at best. The two Elgin courses are certainly among the better. What I'd really suggest is the newly renovated Monut Prospect course. I loved it. And not too far from Rosemont.

Maybe Mistwood? Willow Crest is another good course in Oak Brook along with Oak Brook Golf Course. Out west, you could consider Seven Bridges but that's around the same price as Cantigny without the range to warm up. Arrowhead is nice too in Wheaton. Prairie Landing isn't a bad track either.

If you want something nice Cantigny all the way. Try to get the Lakeside/Woodside combo, if you have a day to blow you can replay it for $65 and get the Hillside course in the mix. All the suggestions are good and you can't go wrong with them but there's just something about Cantigny.

Cantigny is the closest thing to a private course IMO in this area, as a public facility, but you will pay for it. I took a buddy from MI there once and he actually thought it was a private course when we showed up. Great courses, beautiful setting. If you don't feel like doing a replay there, Arrowhead is about 5-10 minutes away and is a nice course as well.

I played it last September and it was a nicely maintained and a fun layout. Most everyone I know loves that course.

Completely agree - actually liked it better before the renovation. But probably 15-20 public tracks in GCA I would rather play. To me, that makes it good, not great.

Haven't played Misty since the renovation, but I always though of it as one of the better public courses in the area - especially when they used to have the $45 w/cart specials (which they often did). Conditions started deteriorating, but when they were right, they were very good. Lots of memorable holes. I didn't like the rerouting of the front. I thought the old 1st was a great setting to start the round - even if the tee shot landing was blind. They also took away what was one of my favorite shots - the approach to the old 9th(?), par 5. Still, the course looks good and should be on the short list for visitors who can conveniently get out to Romeoville.
