Vice Golf "Local Legend 2016" Hat Review

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I just received my Local Legend 2016 hat from Vice Golf and I thought I'd share a few thoughts on it.

Link: http://www.vicegolf....legend-2016-cap

**UPDATE** Link to comparison pictures: https://drive.google...Y09lY3R4ekw4ODg

- The hat isn't as deep of a green as the pictures on the website indicate. For all you photo buffs out there, if you took the picture on the website and decreased the saturation about 5%, that's the green you'll get.

- The website shows a green snapback fastener, but the one on my hat is white. I haven't decided whether or not this bothers me.

- This being my first Vice hat, one thing I noticed in all of their pictures is what looks like a removable ball marker on the backside of their hats. Unfortunately, this is for show only as there's no way I've found to remove it without ruining the hat. It's too bad because this would have made for a very nice detail on the hat.

- Another detail I found lacking is the back "patch" that says "Vice Golf." In the pictures on the website, it looks like a patch that's been sewn into the cap. On my hat, it looks like that detail was embroidered onto the hat. It doesn't look as "cool" to my eye.

- The overall material and construction of the hat is nice, but falls short of the standard 59fifty or Mitchell & Ness snapback.

Overall, I give the hat an 7.5/10.

I will be emailing Vice about these details to see what they say. Also, I'll try to get some pictures up so you guys can see some of the differences.

I love the Vice branding and I feel like they'll start to make a push in the coming years if they decided to get more into apparel or produce a softer compression ball. I just wish the hat that's shown on the website was a true representation of the hat I got.

I also forgot to add that the product page says that this is only a limited edition hat and only 222 pieces were made. So you'd expect that every hat was made the same way as the one shown on the site.

And you payed $24.95 for that ?

Yup. Not sure if your aim is to criticize my fashion sense or to back me up in saying that I should have received something nicer for my money. In any case, this review is here for anyone who is thinking about buying a Vice cap.

I also bought the local legend hat. I was hopping that pin/ball mark was removable, but oh well. I will add that this hat seems to fit different than the other hats from vice. The other hats are very deep which for those (like me) with a small head, looks a bit huge. The local legend hat doesn't fit so big and actually looks much better. Overall feel is a little on the cheap side for a $25 hat but it does look pretty good so I guess I can't complain too much. Op is spot on with the color as well. Thanks for the review

Thanks for posting about the fit on the other hats. I'll def have to look into one of their regular ones.

BTW, I posted an image link at the end of my OP so you guys can see the differences. If anyone knows how to post a Google Drive image, instructions would be awesome.

Here's the image

The embroidery on the "patch" looks quite a bit more sloppy than it is on the hat shown on the website.

I also like the green snap closure better than the white.

It's really odd that they would do that.

It's almost like they made one really high quality one for pictures and then massed produced a cheap version.

My thoughts exactly. What's also eye opening is when I sent them an email about the compression rating of their balls, someone responded within an hour of me sending it. It's been nearly 24 hours since I emailed them about this asking them to address it, but I have yet to hear anything.

I'll give them another day or two to respond.

You seem pretty disappointed, and listed a bunch of stuff that bothered you about the hat.

And it gets a 7.5/10? :)

Yeah, they probably shot the sample, then when they went to produce it, the factory couldn't source the green fastener, the same shade of green fabric, and produce the sewn patch. Might've changed factories. The white fastener would bother me the most.

Well the hat itself is still nice enough, it's just not what I expected. I'm more disappointed in that.

I've got the standard Vice navy hat and I love it. Also playing the Pro Plus. I don't see myself moving away from Vice gear any time soon...super happy with the quality so far. Sorry to hear about your hat situation though! Hopefully they'll respond and give you more info. Seem like a good company as far as I can tell.

The sample is usually well made, things fall short when they do a big release. Shame it's a nice hat, I'd wear it!

So I got a reply yesterday and the just of it:

- We made a sample hat and took pics of it and out them on the website.

- We changed the snap back to white because the green one didn't match.

- You can return it on your own dime if you want.

- We'll give you a sleeve of balls if you decide to BUY a box from us.

Lame. I replied back and claimed false advertising, but I proposed that I wanted to write something nice about thier products and that they should send me a free hat or a box of balls that I could write a nice review on and show the company wants to take care of their customers.

No reply yet, running on 2 business days.

just not good enough.

i expect big things from these guys but that's just not good enough.

if you wan't to make a run around with the big fish in this industry, you had better have one hell of a product line [think PXG] and stuff like this can kill you instantly.

just not good enough at all.

Yea I'd be pretty pissed if I were you.

i'm pretty pissed and it's not even my hat.

So even though it was misrepresented and the customer service was poor you'd be willing to write a good review if they gave you something? That sounds ethical.

Maybe I worded it wrong. I would write an honest review but also explain that the company went above and beyond to try and make up for it. To me, that's the least the company could do to save face and make up for it.

BTW, I sent them a follow up email on Thursday and still haven't heard back from them.

Finally got a response for my most recent email and it reads:

"Customer Care (Vice Golf)

Apr 18, 13:58

Dear Mr Ryan,

thank you again for your expressing your opinions, please regard that such are certainly passed onto the the management, we always seek to improve and resolve problems and bring new products to the market but as you are accepting the cap in the condition supplied with only a minor issue regarding the strap which was an unfortunate but necessary change to the design. We will certainly address such issues for future promotions. We stand by our offer of the 3 PRO+ balls free of charge to your next order.

Please note that any return would be gratefully accepted as we already have a waiting list for any Legend Caps that find there way back to us."

1) I made it plenty clear that it was more than just the white strap that I was unhappy with.

2) They want to gratefully accept the hat so that they can ship it off to someone else who's on a waiting list.

Just... wow...
