Pro Tracer at the Masters

I really like pro tracer especially when its bright and sunny and all you see is a golf swing and player reaction.

 

However I didnt see it even once on the Masters coverage, was it there and maybe not shown by the BBC or do the Masters committee not like this black magic art?

It's funny you mention that. I was at 18 tee at the end of Tuesday's practice round talking to a guy setting it up, but I never saw it on my CBS broadcast.

Sky showed it although it was not very much. BBC must not have stumped up the ££ for it. I doubt they even know it exists - Peter Alliss too interested in the flowers, Ken Brown just wants to throw balls around the greens and Hazel knows more about snooker than golf.

Personally I would have every shot shown with protracer (except putts) as it really adds to the enjoyment in my view.

Certain that the powers that be at Augusta do not allow that during the telecast. You think they want the view of their pristine course to be obscured by lines of ball flight. I like it as well but I would bet every penny I own that you'll never see it during a Masters telecast.

The obvious place to have it would have been 13, to see them try and snap around the trees, but of the protracers I did see, none were on 13. Which was odd. Should be on every single tee box in my opinion.

I would agree with this completely. I would love to see the various lines that these guys are taking around that corner. I would also guess that as said before, it has some to do with "messing up" the pristine sight lines you get without them by limiting the number that you will ever see.

From what I understand, ANGC won't allow it on the broadcast. They also don't release many of the stats from the course to the public. They, as always, are very closed-vest when I comes to information regarding their course and how it plays. Part of the allure!

I totally agree, and I can't believe that it hasn't been done yet. It would generate more viewers to golf, and more golfers (and non golfers) than not want to see it. Doesn't make sense.

I'd be okay with them going from 4 minutes of ad time to 5 minutes to get it done. Gotta make sacrifices I suppose.

Yea i'm pretty sure they prefer to not have their scenery interrupted by red lines on screen.

 

That being said i wish they had it on every golf shot as well. It really helps you understand each players tendencies when you can see their shot shapes and trajectory

It was definitely on the 18th tee shots all four rounds on sky as a previous poster mentioned, so it definitely wasn't banned!

all they would have to do is have the ProTracer in white or something light colored so to not be obtrusive. You'd think Augusta National would want to be on the cutting edge of technologuy. A gray trajectory line would suffice.

 

Golf telecasts these days suck because all we can see is a nice swing, zoom in on the ball in flight and as the ball hits the green - we might as well be listening to in on the radio and looking at a few screen shots of the player. If networks want to increase viewership, give us a reason to watch -- GIVE US SOME PROTRACER!! Telecasts are very stale these days.

Pro tracer is mostly used on NBC broadcasts, maybe it was CBS said no to Pro Tracer instead of ANGC. Since there are others that say Sky Sports had Pro Tracer on 18, this may be the answer.

 

If I'm not mistaken, ANGC does not allow Trackman or any other swing/ball flight analyzer on their practice range.

 

The reason you don't see Pro Tracer on fairway shots is that there has to be a radar unit placed behind the hitting area to catch the shot. It would be difficult to have someone constantly moving the radar in and out of the fairway and between each person in the group depending on where each ball was hit.

I'd like to start with more than 4 hours of Saturday coverage. The leaders teed off 10-15 minutes before the CBS coverage even came on. Really? We can't even watch the freaking leaders tee off? Let alone the other final groups?

Wasn't Spieth using a Track man at the range when his driver cracked and he was testing out new ones?
