Erin Hills Caddie

Hi All,

My Brother-in-Law and I are going to play Erin Hills in June and are going to go with caddies. As most of us know, their skill sets usually vary. Looking for recommendations on who we can try to request for our round.

Year before the US Open so I am sure it will be playing fast and hard in June!

I will be there on July 4th! I've played there twice. The first year, I took a caddy and couldn't have been more disappointed. My caddy was nothing more than a surfer dude who seemed to have nothing better to do that day than carry someones golf bag. He was constantly putting putts with my putter, flirting with the beverage cart girl and break dancing on the tee. I"m not a stodgy old guy, but I expected better from a course where I just dropped $250 to play and $55 for a caddy (not including tip).

Last year when I played, I did not take a caddy, but was paired with 3 guys who each had a caddy. These guys were much better and had no issue with giving me lines off the tee, etc. The only name I remember from this group is Joe.

Ask for Clayton. I had him last year. Good caddy, and good person to walk with.

Are you able to "request" someone?

When I used to travel with my Teacher(Pinehurst, Pebble) he of course could request a specific caddie(At Pinehurst, He and his Bro always got Willie Lee and if was the three of us, Sam got Willie Lee, Pete got Willie McRae and at Pebble, Pete would take The Dog) and I got some pedestrian caddie however bein the same group as two legends, not to mention Sam, I never had a bad experience. They busted their a****, lol.

My point is that in talking to these guys, well, they only went out with serious Hitters and Players.

Only a very small number of individuals could request a specific caddie.

That's great if you can!!

most places will allow you to ask. I talked to my caddy at Pinehurst and he said they love getting requests because it guarantees them work. Some guys sit there for hours waiting for a bag

I'm not sure where this idea came from, but you can absolutely request specific caddies almost everywhere you go and you don't have to be a +4 Secretary of State to do it. Nearly all public and private courses I've played have allowed me to request a specific caddie, and have done their best to accommodate my request. Caddies, mostly as independent contractors, have the right to refuse any request. That being said there aren't many caddies that like to sit around in the shack and turn down loops until they get one that they approve of. Most caddies (even the best and most famous ones) don't give a crap who you are or what kind of golfer you are, they just care about how much money you're going to hand them at the end of the day. If get a recommendation from a friend, or have used a specific caddie before that you liked go ahead and request them, you won't have problem doing so.
