Lyman Orchards course opinion

I was invited to play there and it's a 2hr ride for me. How good are the courses there? Am I going to be happy driving that far to play?

The Jones and the Players are their two 18 hole courses. Not one of the top/must plays in CT but definitely a good track for a public course. I try to make it there once a summer at least. The Jones is more of a traditional setup while the Players is a lot of target golf

Not worth the two hour drive. I can name fifteen course I'd want to play in CT and that wouldn't be one of them.

I wouldn't drive 2 hours to play the course. I enjoyed the apples more than the golf... I was there to golf.

Definitely not worth the two hour drive. The layouts are nothing to write home about and conditions have gotten progressively worse over the years, not to mention a weekend round under 5 hours is rarer than Halley's comet.

Check out CT National in Putnam if you're looking to tee it up over the border.

It's probably not worth it for either. The jones is the better course. The Player course is terrible imo.

The jones course layout isn't bad, but I played there today(first time there this year) and the greens are in awful shape. The conditions there have been going downhill for a few years now. I hope they get a lot better by the time the CSGA publinks is held there in august

I should have clarified, it's a 36 outing there with a GREAT bunch of guys I met on another forum. We had an absolute blast last year so as long as the course doesn't suck, seeing these guys could be worth it.

You should go! It's not a destination course, but the courses will be decent enough for your needs. Just take up the mindset that it's a social outing and you'll come away having a great time!

Grab a meal at blackbird tavern after, if they're open I've tried to go there 3 or 4 times and always seem to miss it. Apparently, it's excellent.

Ohhh! and be sure to ask for a FREE Player course layout/yardage card, it will help you tremendously. The course is fraught with blind/annoying angles and odd yardages. Unless you've played it, you won't believe it. Also don't get mad at yourself when you can't find a perfectly good shot, because the course took a weird turn and dropped off the face of this earth, just laugh at how utterly asinine the hole design is, YES you are aiming at the white uprights behind the end-zone! —Player #6

Used to play there when I was living in CT as it was fairly close to me, but it's not worth it. Conditions have gone downhill in the past 5-10 years or so.
