Wow, he looks like he's favoring his back just standing up and walking straight forward. Anyone that's had back pain can recognize that hitch in his walk.

I saw the same thing, he kind struggled getting out of the chair. I know how my back feels after 45 yrs of playing plus knee surgeries. I am sure his condition is many times worse than mine. I know why he did it it was a corporate/his tournament function but he was an idiot for doing it without warming up.

I saw Jason Day flub 3 chip shots in a row yesterday. Stuff happens. I wouldn't say it's indicative of anything.

psshh, head done! So sayeth wrx. :)

If you're healthy, you wouldn't need a proper warm up for that shot. That is your warm up. If it wasn't on purpose, which I don't believe it was, this is someone who may not be able to play competitively again. Imagine the toll it would take on him to play 4 rounds in 4 days?

100%agree with you except, I hope, the never play again part. He clearly is not nearly ready to play. He said as much that he would like to play the Quicken Loans in 6 weeks but does not have a timetable as yet. Appears to be doing this right. The swing matters, obviously, but with a bad back I would think the ability to be on your feet for six to seven hours and walking a course would matter even more.

ESPN has video from a different angle. Tigers definitely favoring his back. He's moving like me after I just wake up the day after back day.

I'm obviously not a doctor, but it seems to me he shouldn't have even picked up a club for at least 8 months.

I don't think he's tiger rushing his return. But he's definitely athlete rushing it.

Still can't believe some are going with the "he has so much respect for the military he decided to hit three water balls" logic.

Again, if he did it on purpose, he doesn't ask for the second ball.

I'm also not sure how that shows "respect". Anyone in a closest to the pin contest would love to hit one 5 feet and then have Woods drop one inside that - it's a great story.

What isn't a great story is "I hit one 5 feet, then Tiger clearly let me win and dunked one 85 yards into the water! What a guy!" That's actually the opposite of what anyone who plays golf would want - totally patronizing.

Brilliant PR move by Tiger. Rinse a couple shots, commit to Memorial and now most of the pressure is off because no one expects anything other than a MC.

Haha! I'll Humiliate myself now when it doesn't matter so when I play for real and Humiliate myself, it won't Shock anybody.

Now there's the Mindset of a navy seal.

It's the ol jedi mind trick. The double reverse & reverse, my third wife does to me all the time. keeps me on my toes and at the 19th hole til she goes to bed..

6 pages of comments, and not a single person willing to admit they might not know whether or not it was on purpose. This place is full of experts.

I hope I don't get banned for this highly unpopular WRX viewpoint, but here goes nothing. I DON'T KNOW whether or not it was purposeful or not... Am I allowed to say that on here?

I mean of course nobody outside his inner circle knows for sure. I just really hope for his and the larger golf world's sake he is not rushing back from his surgery. Golf deserves a Tiger at 100% health. And from experience I know that doing certain things when you are not at 100% coming off a back surgery is detrimental. Time will tell.

Why would he dunk THREE on purpose? I could buy one, maybe, but even then if he was being a "good sport" he could hit one 30 yards right of the pin and call it a day.

He immediately asked for a second ball, clearly to make up for the first one, and missed it. Why would he ask for another ball just to hit it in the drink again?

After that, they goaded him into hitting another one, which he missed AGAIN, the entire time saying he was stiff, etc.

And reading someone who was there, the crowd was just dumbfounded and silent. It was awkward.

We might as well come up with a theory that Spieth purposely dunked it on 12 at Augusta so he could set up a dramatic comeback.

I am still trying to figure out why he would hit 3 in the water on purpose? Then you have people on here responding like you are such an idiot for not getting it while they just keep liking each others comments like they are in on it.

What is he supposed to do? Knock it stiff against a group of wounded veterans? Hell, he might have been hitting a 60 degree lob wedge for all we know.

It all looked staged to me. But, that is just me. If he can't hit the ball at all like some of you say, he could have just said no to hitting the ball and signed a few autographs. I think it was rigged all in fun.

He's Tiger Frickin Woods! Nobody is showing up to see him hit it in the drink. They want to see him stick it close. Are you telling me that if he hits it closer than the veterans that he and Quicken Loans can't let them win anyway? Come on. If anything it sure didn't seem like anybody was enjoying seeing him hit it in the water. If anything it looked a little uncomfortable and quiet. Plus if it's a closest to the pin, he only had to stick one in the water and then he could hit it stiff and get some laughs for letting them win. You don't get 3 shots at it in a closest to the pin.
