Drew where did you find the screen shots of PG2? When I search all the permutations of "Perfect Golf 2" "Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf 2" etc, the best I can find is the older version.

@bbjr. It's pretty easy with OBS. Check out this link https://onlinegolfto....php?f=236&t=26

Feel free to pm me and I can help walk you through it if you have any trouble.

Also, jump on discord and you can get instant help from a lot of guys.

Even if you don't go on discord much, I would sign up on it so if you ever need help you can get it really quickly. It's basically a chat room and does voip for the live multiplayer games.

Thanks, I'll check it out!

Perhaps a dumb question but can you add the HMT later to a GC2? My club has a GC2 they don't use much anymore (have moved on to trackman 4) and I'm wondering if I can get it for a nice price and add the HMT so I have club data for garage practice this winter.

What he said! I'd add that this sounds like a great opportunity!

Honestly even just the GC2 by itself is really all you need, provided you have a good understanding of ball flight laws and gear effect. HMT is certainly awesome to have, but I'd highly recommend starting out with the GC2 if you can get a good deal on it from your club. Good luck!

the hardest part is finding one for a decent price. Most of the ones ive seen for sale all are marginally cheaper than just buying it direct from Foresight.

It does require a good bit of patience and timing. Great deals can usually be found in the spring/summer, from my experience. Now that people are gearing up for the indoor season, it gets a bit tougher. However, when I was looking to buy I saw several deals out there for well under $4k and know of at least one that was under $3k!

I have a gc2 and the foresight software from about 3 -4 years ago. I haven't kept up on the latest in the industry at all.

I just hit on the range or play a couple rounds a week on my own.

What would I have to do to get and run the jnpg software etc?

Hey Ryan,

1. Buy JNPG on steam for $35 http://store.steampo...s_Perfect_Golf/

2. Once in the game, go to the pro-shop and purchase the annual SIM pass for $250

3. Create an account on the OGT forum AND the OGT sim site http://simulation.on...pics.html?id=1# and pay $20 to OGT for access to combines, the night range, and the Tour events.

This says basically the same thing but has some additional info that should be helpful: http://onlinegolftou...php?f=64&t=3453

Let me know if you have any other questions, and I hope you join, it'd be great to have some more competition in the Gross events!

Does that sim pass work for PG2 if they release it during the beginning of 2018? Thank you for all the info.

Yes, it will.

Agree, join OGT where Drew plays - best $20 I ever spent. In fact even join there before doing the rest as there's a super active private discord channel and maybe 3-4 new guys joining a week -- the sim vets there give endless time to help you get setup and running optimally. Weekly league events following the PGA tour at the real courses, alternate shot events, hazard golf, exhibition matches of new courses, scrambles - about 15 tourneys a month. Then you have long-running Trackman like Combines. Also PUGs (pick-up-games) every day where you can just casually join others playing a social 2v2 scramble or hazard or whatever that I most enjoy as there's nothing better than playing live with 3 others over voice chat and I never know when I'll be free to organize a tourney round with others. There are some other (major!) benefits I probably shouldn't disclose publicly but suddenly the cost of the sim pass will seem trivial.

Well it's been a year and a half since I started this thread and I wanted to take some time to update anyone who is following and/or interested in doing something similar at home. While the Flightscope was amazing to have and I truly enjoyed using it just about every day in the garage, there were a few shortcomings that influenced me to make the switch to Foresight's GC2 for my launch monitor. Before I get to that, however, I just have to say that if you're on the fence about doing something like this, DO IT! It's still by far the best investment I've made in my game and it's a ton of fun!

Reasons for switching from Flightscope to GC2

1. In the year+ that I owned the Flightscope, I only took it outside to use on a full range probably 4 times. When I purchased it I thought it would see much more outdoor range time.

2. When I did take the Flightscope to a range, I was frustrated by the influence of range balls on data. The newer models do have a "normalize" function that allows you to use a range ball and get data that is more true to life, but I found this to be a limitation on actually wanting to use it outdoors.

3. The space I had in the garage was just enough to get accurate readings for irons/wedges, but woods did not register and I missed being able to practice the full bag. Additionally, the model I had did not measure short chips or putts, which meant simulation was out. I didn't really mind this at the time, as I'm a range rat, but I've had a change of heart - more on this later!

Benefits of GC2

1. I can now practice the full bag, including chips and putts (though I have to choke up on driver just to be safe with overhead clearance in the garage)

2. I feel that I get more consistently accurate data indoors with the GC2. The Flightscope would occasionally have to estimate shot readings and I would see some very low-spin numbers and inflated carry distances. This actually snuck into my estimation of my actual carry yardages and didn't do me any favors when playing out on the course. I've since adjusted several of my short iron stock yardages and my proximity and GIR stats have improved.

3. The addition of Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf (JNPG) and the Online Golf Tour (OGT) has been nothing short of awesome. I have access to all practice session data, two cool driving ranges, a handful of practice combines with worldwide leaderboards, a huge list of courses to play, and my favorite part, the actual online tournaments where I get to compete with players from all over the globe!

OGT Home: http://www.simulatio....net/index.html

OGT Course Downloads: http://www.simulatio...se-reviews.html

OGT does a tremendous job of running things, and as a numbers geek, I think its awesome that we have access to stats from all tournament play. It's like our very own version of PGA Tour ShotLink!

Personal profile: http://www.simulatio...e.html?id=16001

Tour stat leaders: http://www.simulatio...s.html?id=10036

There is also a group chat on the Discord app where guys organize scrambles and other games, talk trash about tournament results, and just shoot the breeze. It's a fun group and everyone is very helpful when someone new comes on board.

Some samples of JNPG/OGT:

Sorry for the stupid commentary here, this was originally sent to a buddy  However this is a good view of the "regular" JNPG driving range, as well as some of the features that can be included in a live stream

Here is the OGT Night Range:

As a result of changing the launch monitor and starting to play SIM golf, I've also made some upgrades to "the lab." Here it is in its current state:

I'm still using the same netting and screen (PR-20) and have nothing but good things to say there. I've recently moved my birdieball putting mat so that I can hit from my mat and then putt on the birdieball to more accurately simulate real-world conditions, and while I'm still adjusting to the increased speed, it is definitely better for practicing real putting and seeing carryover to outdoor play, which is my whole purpose in doing this, so I'm happy. The viewing window for GC2 is only ~5 inches deep, so ordinarily using two separate mat stations wouldn't work, but thanks to my buddy (and WRX'er) Stingreye, there's an easy solution! I've got the GC2 sitting on one of these, which allows me to slide it forward when hitting full shots, then slide it backwards for putts and I don't have to worry about re-aligning the unit.

https://www.amazon.c...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I had been using the Country Club Elite (CCE) hitting mat for over a year, but with the addition of playing SIM golf, I was just starting to notice a tender trail elbow and didn't want to mess with that. I've heard many similar complaints from the other guys playing online, which is too bad, as it is a very good mat in terms of replicating real-world ball data. It just beats you up over time though. Currently there is some testing being done of different mats by various members of OGT. One solution that many are liking is the Divot Action mat, which can be found retail here:

http://www.customdes...trade-mats.html

This mat can also be DIY'd very easily and cheaply. I put together a pretty simple DIY using the following materials.

Lexan plexiglass from Home Depot:

https://www.homedepo...GE-07/202038064

Synlawn precision putt turf or other turf (I used a cheap turf from Amazon just to experiment)

https://www.synlawn....precision-putt/

Then simply glue some foam (or styrofoam lol) underneath and you're good to go. The idea is that the middle of the mat will flex to reduce joint wear and tear. I found that having the Lexan directly under the turf felt too much like I was hitting off of plastic and it muted the feel of shots for me, so I added a layer of carpet padding and it worked great!

I'm currently experimenting with the Fiberbuilt fairway grass hitting strip, as I was able to find a good used one online, but they retail here:

http://www.fiberbuil...-fairway-grass/

Overall, ball data is very similar between the DIY divot action and the fiberbuilt. I think the feel of the divot action is more realistic, but the fiberbuilt is incredibly easy on the joints. If you don't have a separate putting station though, the fiberbuilt is not a surface you would want to putt on for SIM play, so that could be something to keep in mind.

Finally, others are really liking the TrueStrike mat (or DIY versions), which uses a gel under the hitting surface to reduce wear and tear. I have yet to try that one, but I believe it's solid.

Anyway, hope this update has been helpful, as always, feel free to ask any questions!

I also have a CCE mat and have some elbow tenderness. It's not nearly as bad as it used to be...but I used to be really steep and hit a lot more balls indoors when I was working on fixing my swing.

Did you glue the carpet pad to the plexi glass? Glue the turf to the carpet pad? What kind of glue did you use?

Thanks! looking forward to giving this a try!

The link posted immediately above this is what I referenced to build mine, along with some other feedback from guys in the JNPG/OGT chat app who had done the same. Basically I just used wood glue between each layer (turf, carpet padding, lexan, foam), let it sit for an hour and was good to go!

Release dates typically don't happen with software anymore because they're always wrong, but hearing of the progress, I would guess mid year at best. Although many of us will certainly love the 3d grass, we're more looking forward to the more simultaneous multiplayer coming in, allowing the non-hitting players to decide/line up their shots while the hitting player has the stage.

I am waiting until the new release to jump in.

I have enough work in the gym and the (virtual) range to keep me busy until then...

  • 5 months later...

I wanted to post a quick update, as my wife and I moved to a new house and I've made a few changes to my setup that have made a big difference in terms of aesthetics.

First off, after using a cheap PVC frame for the last couple of years, I've seen the light and finally bit the bullet on an EMT conduit frame. I definitely should have done this from the get-go, but my original setup was really only about functionality, and hindsight is 20-20 and all, so here we are! I took some inspiration from several builds I'd seen around the golf sim world and I'm very happy with how it turned out. I've got 18" of space behind the screen, 4' from screen to the front end of the cage, and then the screen area is 9' high by 10' wide.

I've got the same netting behind my screen, but the EMT allows for a tighter and more uniform support there, which I like.

I'm still using the PR-20 from West Coast Netting, and I've had no complaints on this impact screen at all. It's still holding up really nicely, it's not too loud, and the picture is more than enough for any of my purposes. My stance mat is from CCE, then I'm using FiberBuilt panels to hit from, and a BirdieBall mat to putt and tee my driver on. This setup allows me to keep the GC2 in one spot and not have to slide it back and forth for hitting vs. putting.

Finally, I added 5x10 blackout curtains to the side paneling that I purchased from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GMRHNSM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and a simple 4x12 black fleece curtain overhead, also purchased from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CUK7C5I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I clamped the fleece and curtains in some spots using these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075YFPVHG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also stopped by the local SynLawn headquarters here in town and picked up some scrap turf for my flooring at $0.50/sq ft. It virtually eliminates bounce back, looks great, and adds some good color contrast!

I'm still loving JNPG and the Online Golf Tour, though I haven't been able to play frequently, as I've just had too many other things going on. That said, I can't recommend that software or the community enough! Lots of good guys over there and a ton of great courses, including this week's PGA Championship track at Bellerive CC

Hope the above is helpful!

Looking great Andrew!

So you're not using that tray thing to pull the GC2 back and forth anymore? The space between your FB and BB matt seems larger than the GC2 reading box.

Thanks Lawrence! Correct, no more sliding tray! The tray was a great solution for the space I had previously, but I much prefer being able to leave GC2 in one spot. I had to make some cuts to the BB mat to make it all fit within the GC2 viewing window, but where the putting line is to the closest hittable section of the FB panel is 5 inches. Gc2's window is 6" so it's all good!

Nice setup. Home studios are the best!! I'm running a Foresight Quad & flightscope XiTour but switch to the gc2 when I'm playing TGC. Quad works great with foresight's library and I haven't used E6 in years.

That's quite the bevy of launch monitors! Can I ask why you use both the Quad and Flightscope? Also, how have you found them to compare indoors? I've heard so many conflicting stories now with ball flight, gear effect, etc. Quad seems most reliable though from what I've read. Anyway, thanks for the read!
