He is also a member at my course.

Just shot golfboy a PM-- The other day we were playing I hit the Homna on #8 and he said it sounded good I thought it felt funny and it did not clear my cut shot over the hazard which I can clear if I had to with the 4 wood. Hit it decent on #9 but it felt funny and I know I hit it in the screws and it did not go any where. I can not see any cracks but who knows. I had done some work on the M-6 changed out the shaft from a A flex to a R flex. Noticed the stock grip seemed small and I measured it yep it was undersized. Put one of my sized Tour Wraps on it. I had did a shaft change for a guy and had the Evenflow R in 65 grams that came out of his driver so I pulled the adaptor and put it in the M-6. The M-6 had previously had a Evenflow A flex at like 45 grams. Man woke that driver up gained about 25 yards no joke. Yes I know in real life it does not happen like that so I think something happened to the Homna. Also realized wednesday that I had a false hope I could not make the old Steel Head with that stiff shaft work on the course. Did some weight shift and a grip change on the old dependable Adams 16* hit my second shot on #4 which is a par 5 right at 220 with the roll out. Longest I have hit that thing in a year. For some reason I had a Mid Size Tour Wrap on it changed it back to a standard which works for me because I hold the club more in my fingers. I think the Mid Size was not letting my wrists turn over which I am handsy anyhow. Anyhow got a pick up team for the shootout tomorrow. My ex team guys will not bet against me.

Really a great afternoon for the first time in over a year we had a bunch in the Clubhouse shooting the breeze and watching the Masters.

Welcome @golfboy123!  How does the old saying go -- March winds and April showers -- not promising for the coming week golf wise with rain most days on tap.  Things are pretty dry, so it will be a welcome relief for all growing things.

 

Speaking of growing things, I did a full day of yardwork yesterday; clean-up, some late pruning, grass cut for the first time and threw down a bit of leftover fertilizer from last season.  DW says to me:  boy that lawnmower of yours sure is noisy!  (It's a 30 year old Cub Cadet with a 5hp Briggs & Stratton)  All the neighbours will be complaining as they all have electric mowers.  Right at that moment one of the neighbours fired up his Harley and the boyfriend nextdoor started up his diesel pick-up and promptly roared off.  My response was: yah, not so much I think... 🤨

 

I do seem to be the only guy on the street with gas powered yard equipment.  If you want to see something really funny, just watch the guy down the street with the electric snowblower trying to deal with even 6" of snow! 😆  Even at my advanced age I'm sure I could shovel it quicker and probably expend less energy in the process...

Have a guy coming out tomorrow to install a patio cover.  This will give a rough idea of what the finished product will look like.  Powder coated aluminum framework with acrylic translucent panels.  The product comes from the greenhouse industry.  Not cheap, but then again buying a couple of umbrellas a year due to wind isn't a winning proposition either.  The panels let the light through so that the house isn't dark.

In a close tournament finish any number of shots could make the difference but in my mind Hideki's amazing up and in on 18 on Saturday and his par save on 5 today were huge. Xander may not sleep well after the tee shot on 16.

A deserving winner who never let the weight of the moment get to him.  Every time Matsuyama got into trouble he was able to hold the damage to one shot.  Starting the final round with a 4 shot lead allows one not to feel the need to take a chance.  You take your medicine and move on to the next hole.  He displayed a wonderful short game which on this day was his greatest asset.

Agree on both counts.

 

In other news I just bought G410 17 and 19 degree hybrids.  The G410s are the first adjustable

hybrids Ping made and I want that ability to adjust lofts and lies on hybrids.

What a Maters Sunday that was, Wifey and I are big Hideki fans so were rooting for him all the way. 

 

I thought he played a great round of golf except for his choice to go for Hole 15 in 2. From 230 range he's hitting a long iron that has very little chance to stay on the green. It was an unnecessarysary high risk shot that could have cost him a lot more than it did. 

 

I felt sorry for Xander but his damage was done on the early on the front nine with all the drop shots, after that he was always having to playing catch up and aggressive golf that was most likely going to catch him out at some point.

Played 18 holes yesterday with 2 of the normal guys. 

 

Shot a very happy 76. With two doubles on the card both a result of unforced errors. Highlight of the round was missing a 4 foot putt for birdie on 16 which, if had gone in, would have been birdies on all four par 5's.

 

As usual when including the animal format I walked away with the low gross of the group but the most animals (snake, monkey and camel)

As Golf is not an option at present, working on my paintings, finished this one today, well almost, some minor tweaks and a varnish coat. Has to be 100% as this was commissioned by DW for our bedroom. Light is catching it at present will photograph better in daylight.

The above was posted this morning by @rgk5 over in the Tour Talk Masters 2021 dedicated thread.  I thought that was a classic description of the play of the chasers yesterday.  The above was in response to Xander being in denial over his collapse.

 

Let's face it; we've seen plenty of failed rallies casing down the front runner just as we've seen plenty of third round leaders fade ingloriously under the weight of the moment.  It's a battle of the mind as much as a battle of the elements.

 

What I liked best about Matsuyama's win was that a real golfer took home the hardware.  A fellow with a complete game.  One who drove the ball straight, hit crisp accurate iron shots, had a wonderful short game and putted confidently.  It wasn't a matter of someone who bludgeoned the course with sheer power and then got hot with the putter for a few days.  It was like the days of old again.

I have absolutely nothing against Matsuyama, but a golf tournament has to have a close race to be really interesting. The only few minutes with a nerve last day was right in the beginning after the Hideki bogey on first, and the minutes from the final pairing holing out on 15 until Schauffeles ball in the air on 16. 
 

You want that - Golden Bear having made that great run on last 9 and Greg on the fairway on 18 with a chance to win. Or in our national case, Troon 2016, Stensons spoon on 18 coming closer and closer to the bunker on the right on 18.  If he reaches the bunker Phil may catch him.
 

Not a Master one will remember, this. Except maybe, Roseys run on thursday. That was absolutely insane.
 

As for the Japan golf fans, they aint complaining supposedly. Must have been like the above mentioned Troon for us up here. If Hovland ever wins a major - those commentators will go absolutely bezerk. Our western neighbors are a bit more loud than us.

Well hear now Grillers, I have had a complaint from Gus, and the girls, Cyndie and Tammy, they have been busy cooking but no one has turned up. Get your collective acts together and call into Gus’s place for a meal. If they have nothing you like all meals can be cooked to your order. Cyndie has promised to deliver all meals with a song and dance, having seen it before it is something you do not want to miss.

Here here, Cyndy has actually taken dance lessons at the local 'Communyty College', and is so ready to as you say to deliver as such.  Gus is thinking of BBQ'ing leg'o'lamb, although he says it has nothing to do with the girls. 

It is time for everyone to return to the Grille, Gus has determined that masks are no longer required, if you can eat without a mask, you can also talk without one... The new spring menu should be out, just waiting for a few more suggestions of everyone's favorites so he can add them 😊

Yes, still alive and well. Haven't played golf now for a while though. The Masters was very interesting, so glad to see Hideki-san win, he was definitely deserving of it there on Sunday. He's a fine guy, and will represent the green jacket well. Would love to attend the champions dinner next year... 😊

Took the new (to me) vintage clubs out for 9 holes today on a lovely spring evening. Hit them really well (a lot better than anticipated), now to regrip them so I can swing full speed without fear of the club flying as far or further than the ball.

This is why you should call into the Grille, Tammy in particular will tell you in no uncertain terms how to get a better grip, she is a slippery customer and you can use her for practice, will save you time and money. No kissing though😂😂

I'm going to show you some food from Japan that was so good, I had to take a photo. I really learned to appreciate a great curry. I had not had much before moving to Japan, but some of the curry from the Indian and Nepalese cooks was extraordinary. Look at this delicious sag curry and naan served hot from the tandoor oven. Then tonkatsu (fried pork. Those are gigantic fried shrimp at the top). Then some ramen and then a typical lunches served at a golf course in between nines.

Now I know why golf is an all day affair.  I must admit that there's certain appeal to that, but no NA married man is going to get away with it.

 

Being married to an eastern European; Asian cuisines is not something we have all that often.  More like a change of pace once in a while.  Neither of us have any skill in preparing such dishes and we find the takeout versions to be very much hit and miss.  More often of the miss variety I'm afraid, but that may just be us.

My son is an absolute Japan freak, probably starting in the Pokemon TV show days when a missed show was a total catastrophy, through reading Manga and having a general interest for Japan. He went to Korea with some friends a few years ago, that have a somewhat similar kitchen. My daughter was on one of those around the world trips, in New Zealand with Japan planned as the next stop when the Corona craze happened(Well worth a story...) but she had to come home. Both are dying to come to Japan after the restrictions have lifted. My son has even learned a good deal of Japanese. I found one of those clips with Matsuyamas final putt on 18 with the commenting in Japanese, he could translate it for me. And that guy, earlier playing American Football still training very hard loves his food, and will cause a local food shortage in the country, just loving Yakiniku, Tempura and the like...

Corona situation getting really alarming over here, especially in the town where I live. More people in intensive care than ever, two of the closest neighbour families all downed with 39 C fever, so we really try to stay out of people´s ways here. Suppose the situation in UK is getting better though?

No influence on golf though, except of course for the club house area. Still waiting for an opportunity to play my first round for the year.

Ah yes, Soloman1, you're bringing back wonderful memories. Before I retired 2 years ago I was QA Manager for a terrific Japanese company for 19 years. I had a great time with my colleagues from Japan, learning their culture, some of their language and especially eating some of the fabulous food which I see here in your pics. At times they would cook some at the plant, or we would have parties, or go out to some authentic (I stress the word authentic) Japanese restaurants. You're making my mouth water, I can even hear them slurping their soup & also noodles & other stuff 😊 miss them a lot...

We are really lucky in Australia, as our state governments ignored the federal and shut down immediately, we only need one community case for a mandatory mask rule, and everyone complies so it only lasts a few days.

 

The federals are in charge of ordering the vaccine and they have completely stuffed that, so it's good our states are covid free. We are leading an almost normal life, apart from not being able to travel overseas.

Japanese food has so many different flavors. They're obsessed about food done well.

 

It's interesting because the difference in Mexican food is how you fold it. 🙂

And if you put different Italian food blenders, they would all taste the same...

 

They call American food "one plate meal." A hunk of meat on a plate with a potato.

 

Japanese chefs travel the world for years to study the best cuisines. Then they return to Japan and kind of make it their own with the best that they learned. The best French, Chinese, Italian, Spanish food I've ever had was in Japan. Tokyo has the most Michelin Star restaurants in the world and more than the 5th through 10th cities combined.
