I was beginning to type a post that basically said I was looking at the stats and I think the winner will come from a mix of driving accuracy and distance, then I thought of scrambling, then I thought of putting, then long irons....So what I got from that is the winner is going to have to be good. Really good. In all aspects :) It's science!

http://espn.go.com/golf/usopen15/story/_/id/16110891/pain-name-game-oakmont-116th-us-open

Pain the name of the game at Oakmont

"We are the most sadistic folks you'll ever find; we're gluttons for punishment; we like hard, difficult stuff in Pittsburgh," said Chick Wagner, a three-time club champion. "We're not a steel town anymore, but we still have that steeler mentality."

"Speaking of Oakmont wagers, there's a long-standing one that the members fiendishly like to offer first-time guests. They'll take a player's handicap and double it, betting that they won't beat that score. This means that a 10-handicap would have to post at least a 90 on the par-71 track. Guess what: The members never lose."

"Coulter remembers a time in the 1980s that encapsulates the frustration caused by the course.

Back then, the 18th tee was bordered by a few tall Sycamore trees. One member took a mighty lash with his Ben Hogan driver, sprayed it way right and tomahawked the club into one of the trees. It stayed there -- but a Walter Hagen driver came tumbling down."

Phil or Ricki i'll say..............also think DJ will miss the cut - based purely on his putting.

I think Furyk may have a shot....not sure though. He just missed it in '07 and is usually in the fairway.

Who else loves the Spieth pressed today ? He sure cut that reporter off at the knees wit his " you are putting words in my mouth sir ". lol. And then comments on the " professionals " seeking autographs while squashing a kid. " we don't like to sigh for them anyway " . I find him to be more and more like Phil Anne it comes to press conferences. Polite but unapologetic.

Sounds pretty interesting! Coverage over here so far has been pretty scant with Euro 2016 taking over most sports news. You wouldn't happen to have a link to this would you?

With all due respect, who won the last round between the English hooligans and the Russian gangs?

I just do not understand how football/soccer can be so important in Europe and South America it is an excuse for gang violence, murders, and who knows what other kind of mayhem that 90000 cops can't handle. They ought to play that tournament on a pitch on the Isle of Man so there can be no fans watching the game on site, and just broadcast it. Or even better, put it on radio.

Anyone else notice that when the "Japanese news reporters" ask a question at the news conference, they ALWAYS have a second question regarding Hideki Matsuyama regardless of who they are talking to. They asked Spieth yesterday and Rory just now.

They do it every major. They ask each player about Hideki and what they think of him. It's ridiculous.

the Ruskies watch way to much Putin. The real English hooligans have not even travelled to France. They are all too old and are banned anyway. Russians 20 years too late.
