In a way this video is slightly depressing, just to see how such a very good golfer struggles on tour.

The bloke has won $6+ million on tour!

I played a match against this guy in high school. He'd already won the mass am, and he carried a sunday bag with no head covers and a beat up old putter. My teammates saw this and told me I was gonna smoke him. Then I saw that he was playing really old blades with wear marks the size of a dime on the sweet spot....

Yeah, I did not win that match.

I have been following his career since HS, he beat the club champ at the club I worked at to win the Mass AM, wasn't even close if I remember right. James was 17 and this guy was late 30's but a hell of a player.

He took a post-graduate year at a boarding school, then went to UVA where he said he wanted to "major in golf and girls". I can't find where that quote was, but remembered reading it back in the day and instantly liking the guy. Best of luck to him!

Here's a prime example of how difficult professional golf is and how far you can fall, quickly. In 2009, I advanced to the second stage of Q School at Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, FL. After my first practice round, I was getting my stuff together in the parking lot of the hotel ( I think it was an outdated Holiday Inn ). A rental car pulls up next to me and out gets Shaun Micheel. Barely 6 years before that moment, I had watched this man strike one of the greatest shots in major championship history, hitting a 7 iron ( I think ) to within a foot on the 72nd hole to win the 2003 PGA at Oak Hill.

Now, he was driving a mid level rental car at second stage in Panama City and struggling to figure out how to swipe his card to get into the hotel without dropping his footlong Subway "sandwich". Your standing in professional golf is completely merit based. If you lose it, your spot will be taken sooner rather than later because there are 1000s of guys all over the world who can really play and want it just as much, or more, than you and they smell blood in the water
