Silver putter glare in the sun?

Has anyone else had an issue with a putter glaring right into your eyes as you putt because of the sun? I have noticed this recently with my Newport 2. While I love the putter (had my personal best 26 putts a few rounds ago), the glare really bothers me. I also like the rounded bumpers of the Newport style but I don't know if it is worth getting a new putter. I would love to get it refinished into a matte gray with black colored bombs on the back, I just haven't decided yet on where/if I am going to get that done. Any ideas on fixing the issue?

it's one sport i enjoy out there with bright sun. glares, reflections and whatever are part of it. what i couldn't really stand were those stupid 'ghost' white painted TM putters. mainly because the only thing i'd want to have 'white' on the green is the ball.

I put my Cameron NP Button Back in my bag this past winter and now that summer is here I noticed the glare on sunny days. I ordered a Black Labs BL-2 in a matte black finish and love it.

I have several putters with the silver / SS finish. Some give off a glare, some don't. Need a matte / sandblasted finish on SS to be glare-free. The shinier finished putters, like my Button Back, just give off too much glare in the hot sun down here in Hilton Head SC. I keep thinking about sending it in to Cameron for his new(er) black, PVD finish. I've seen pics of them when completed and they look great. Costly though, and you're without your putter for several weeks.

The matte black PVD probably looks good but I imagine is quite expensive. You can always get a matte raw finish on your Button Back's topline and back and keep the rest of the head satin. That should solve your problem and can be done at a fraction of the cost of a Custom Shop visit.

As I mentioned to T-MAC, you can get an all matte or 2X Matte/Satin raw finish on your Newport 2. That will give you the dull gray look at address.

my byron has a flat-topline and is crazy bright in the sun. i think i'll be sending it off somewhere over the winter to changeup the finish a bit b/c it's just, entirely too bright.

Hit the top of the putter with fine steel wool. It will "dull" the finish.

This is the worst possible thing to do, I know first hand.

Had a small knick in the finish of the topline on my Studio Select Newport 1.5, the steel wool helped smooth out the knick but it made the top line of my putter unbearably bright and shiny.

I cursed it for a few months and eventually submitted, went to local craft store and bought some testors flat black model paint. Taped off the putter with blue painters tape and painted the top line only matte black. I absolutely love it now, has to be redone 1-2x per year depending on how often I play on top dressed greens. The sand makes its way into the putter cover and leaves marks on the paint. But other than that, love the look of it.

Total cost less than $10.00 for the paint and a small paint brush. Have to dip the brush in solvent of some kind when you're done to clean up the paint. Will not clean up with soap and water.
