Green Hill in Worcester, MA, Some interesting holes great overall conditions.

Yep, played there Saturday, it's in great shape. Keep the ball under the hole, though. Those greens are FAST and sloped. Also of note, they are starting up a caddy program. $17 for the round for a youngster to carry your bag.

This is a great answer, probably my favorite course when you factor in the cost.

A few others - Kettle Brook in Paxton MA, Atlantic CC in Plymouth, Poquoy Brook in Lakeville.

There are some nice courses out there but many lack the challenging routing or condition of those you mentioned. Try Butterbrook in Westford, MA (less costly during the week, too much on the weekend), Butternut Farms in Stow, Triggs in Providence RI or even Olde Scotland Links in Bridgewater. I also like Puquoy Brook as noted above. Maybe even Shaker Hills in Harvard although I don't know the prices since they renovated (really beautiful course). And there's also the course on the Cape (Captains, Cranberry Valley, etc). I agree finding a course that has both the challenging layout and good condition is difficult.

wow....lots of places to look up. Thanks.

Only RI course left I really want to play is Montaup in Portsmouth....mostly for the scenery, but I heard it's nice also.

You can skip Montaup....3/4 goofy holes and poor routing

Atlantic & waverly oaks in Plymouth can be had around$70

Pinehills is worth whatever they charge

Allendale has limited public times

Poquoy doesn't stack up to Newport national - when did they drop the rates there?

Kettlebrook is very good. No comment on Highfields :). Definitely add Blackstone National and Wachusett. Crosswinds next door to Waverly Oaks is still cheap I believe.

If you ever travel further North then check out Atkinson CC and Stonebridge in NH and The Ledges in Sothern Maine.

No love for Acushnet River Valley?

CT National and also maybe even Blackstone National are tops on my list for that price too.

Allendale in Dartmouth is also very nice, and which used to be private, are now Semi-Private.

Butter Brook is one my favorites. Shaker Hills is great but near triple digits for cost on weekends.

  • 2 weeks later...

Montoup is not "goofy", gosh they played the RI Am there 2 years ago -- very nice layout, good condition, great scenery on 4-5 holes.

It's not easy, bring your A game - maybe the toughest starting hole in RI, 1st 4 holes all very challenging... #17 and #18 are position holes, the rest are driver green light...

If it's less than $60 -- well worth it...
