Any recommendations on best place to get fit in the metro Detroit area? I'm thinking carls but I'm open to anywhere. Live near novi by the way.

Miles of Golf in AA is awesome, especially if you can work with Brent. Carl's in Bloomfield is also good, in just partial to MoG. They have fit me for the last 10 years.

Probably gonna go miles, thanks for the recommendation, any suggestions on basixx vs maxx? Is maxx worth the money?

Thanks!

I've only done the maxx...it is an incredible golf experience. One of the best 1-1.5 hours you will experience in golf getting to hit so many different head and shaft combinations. Ask to be fit by Brent. He is awesome and extremely knowledgeable.

It really depends on what you're looking for. The Maxx fitting, involves the use of a Trackman, so you're going to get really complete data of just about every swing. The Basixx uses a GC2 monitor, which will measure your launch stats, but you have to take the results with a grain of salt, because it doesn't measure ball flight, and uses algorithms to calculate any distance/dispersion numbers you might see.

If you're looking to get really dialed in to the best among very similar options, go with the Maxx. If you're looking to try out a bunch of different heads and stock shaft options, and don't think you'd benefit enough to justify the cost of the fitting plus the potential extra cost of an exotic shaft to squeeze every last yard, the Basixx will probably get you where you want to go.

I'm looking to get fit into a set of players irons (not butter knives though) and am 6'4 so thinking I'll prob need a lengthening. Never been fit before either so I'm new to all of this.

I shoot mid 80s and on their website it says you have to be a really consistent player for the maxx to be worth it. I definitely don't middle it every shot so that's what's holding me back from doing the maxx, but I want to get the best possible fitting.

Do you think the maxx would be a waste of money?

Basic iron fitting will help you get length/lie correct. Maxx will get you more into getting the best performing shafts, and optimizing ball flight & spin.

Random question but anyone know who to contact to get courses updated on GAM?

Devils Ridge is still showing the 9th as a 4, now a 5, and the 10th as a 4, now a 3... yardages and ratings are not in congruence with the updated scorecard. is that on Devil's Ridge to do that? Cant post my score truthfully it seems haha

Also, Fieldstone changes (#10 and #11 are the old #17 and #18) havent gone through on GAM, surprising considering they are hosting a Amateur Qualifier, but that is a change that you can make yourself when inputting a score

I think there's a 3-4 year rotation for courses to be re-rated, the course should be able to contact the GAM if changes to holes were made.

I think I've heard that courses have to pay to be rated, and Devil's Ridge won't pay to do it.

Blackheath is doing the same thing, not paying the fee. As a result, you can't post a round from these courses with the GAM.

Yeah i remember not being able to post scores there. They are cheap in every way. Too bad because it's a fun layout. If it's October and I still haven't made an eagle I go play there because I know I have a good chance on #8!

yeah, number 8 is on the easy side, especially when you cut the corner over the pond it leaves a golfer with a rather short second shot into the green. I have birdied it several times but can't seem to make my putt for eagle. Overall, Blackheath is a fun course to play especially for the money, but I wouldn't be disappointed if they changed hole number 11 so it wasn't so quirky.

Guaranteed birdie on #8 followed by guaranteed bogey on #9 for me when I play there.

Anybody ever play Hunters Ridge in Howell? Thoughts?

Decent course, not overly long. More of a links-style layout. Not a lot of trees, and lots of long grass if you miss wide. It can be a long day if you're spraying it with the driver. I have my longest ever hole-out on #10 on that course. 185 yards downhill with the wind into us and pushing it right. Hit a nice cut that bent just the right amount, landed about 10 feet short and left of the hole, and bounced once and went straight into the hole.

lol, truthful words you have spoken. Hole #9 is one of the tougher par 3s around and to make it tougher it usually plays into the wind or at least into a crosswind. Several times I thought I hit the perfect shot only the trickle back down the false front, followed by a few angry words!

Has anyone played the ambassador golf club in Windsor yet this year? Wondering what kind of condition it is in. Their spring rates work out to be ~$33 USD to walk on the weekends.

The course is in great shape, you wouldn't be let down. Nicest public course in the area by far and easily rivals the private courses. With the current exchange rate it's a steal.

What's the scoop on Lyon Oaks in Wixom? I just found out I'll be playing there in a work outing. It will be my first time there.

Probably the best of the municipal courses around the area -- it's an Arthur Hills course, so if you've played Pheasant Run in Canton, Stonebridge in Ann Arbor, or the Hills course at Boyne Highlands, it'll look pretty familiar. There's two very similar short par 4s in a row on the back nine that are kind of unexciting forced layups, but overall, it's a pretty nice course, usually in really good shape.

They do quite a bit with group golfer, so you can sometimes get a great deal out there. One of my wife's favorite place to play.

Thanks 3JP. I haven't actually played any of those courses, haha.
