Hey Virt, just wondering ..are you trying to look like Hogan by copying what you see and interpret from Hogan video or do you have an idea of what Hogan actually did in his swing to look the way he looked. I find all this Hogan stuff interesting but what I find more interesting is how one can copy a look to try and achieve what another actually did and how on earth could anyone ever accomplish that?

By the way do you do the copy Hogan swing when you actually play or do you use your own swing which I remember was pretty darn good. Anyways looks like you're having fun chasing a ghost... good luck!

P.S. What would Snack Bar Sally think...lol!

hey MOTS, Snack Bar Sally would just tell me to "tear the cover off that mofo."

Honestly, my swing still looks like my swing. The sequencing is a little better than it used to be, and I'm starting to get a little bit of the Hogan P6 to P8, but I don't have the plane shifts, the counterfall, the sinking pelvis, the uncocked P8-P9, the lordosis, the side bending, wrist angle changes, etc.

However, my development from here on out will start to snap all that stuff together pretty quick--next videos will be pretty good because I'm starting to figure out how all those missing pieces will fit together....at speed.

Based on what Hogan said, his intent worked out in the movements different than his articulation: the arms relationship to each other is different, the hip turn is really a massive counterfall first (even with the driver!!), the tilted plane is a really massive plane shift, the 3 right hands are really the 3 right shoulders, and on and on. So, if I can start to look like him in the videos and I really mean look exactly like his movements (and you have to look the same from every angle: DTL, FO, Behind), I may be able to decode the feels and actual cause and effect.

I mean, let's figure out what all the hoopla is about. His swing certainly makes sense intuitively when you look at it, but I want to see how it actually operates.

Arnold Palmer had it right when he said, "Swing YOUR Swing"...

Master the fundamentals, but don't try to 'copy' the swing of someone else. We are all unique when it comes to swinging a golf club and that's how it should be...

I think I hate you...............

But I do like your shoes.

I am wondering if there is one key thing you have to get your motion right.

I see your little practice move with the 3 iron and wonder if it might be something like that?

Reminds me of something I have used at times, which is concentrating on just moving/turning the right hip together with the right elbow, kinda locked together.

Of the many who have come here trying to find the Hogan swing maybe you have got closest.

How happy are you with the way you are striking the ball?

hey Pin, thanks buddy. yes, you have to make massively exaggerated moves to even make small changes at speed when striking a ball. Feeling like the right hip and elbow are sewed together helps but you can't just keep them glued together ultimately--they are in-sync but acting somewhat independently throughout. They just get really tight at the bottom from hip high to hip high. The issue is that the elbow is moved in front in transition but actually slightly away from the side and then it goes down and sits on the hip--not in front or behind.

When I coordinate it correctly, I hit it very well, but it will take some time to get all this stuff to start to feel natural. I'm kind of juggling plates during the swing right now.

And the cold hard truth is that most people can't do it because they just don't work hard enough. Yes, of course, you have to have a good technical handle on what's happening, but most guys won't really know what it actually feels like because they won't suffer through the work. I was a pretty decent golfer before this and I'm going on over 2800 taped swings--with many, many practice shots in-between the video sessions, and thousands of practice swings at home in front of the TV. thankfully my wife supports it. I am neck-deep in the dirt and going deeper.

...and, most importantly, I'm not afraid to cold wiff the shot if I think that's what it takes to actually make a change in the swing....a real change.

I've been lurking on following this thread, and here's something that I might have missed. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The equipment that is being used today is so different from what was available during Hogan's run....are you satisfied that the equipment is up to the task you are asking it to make?

Let me put it another way.....if we look at Byron Nelson, and how his swing is pretty much considered the transition to the "modern" swing....would that swing have held up nearly as well if he continued to used wooden shafted clubs, and a softer ball???

Me thinks not. The stronger shafts afforded when steel replaced wood allowed him to incorporate stronger muscles in the swing.

Also...if I remember from reading all about Hogan in my youth....he wanted a swing that completely eliminated a hook.

Is this why you are trying to emulate his swing?

Whatever your answers....your swing is looking good, and I wish you luck in your pursuit.

As a final aside....Tom Kite wins the US Open after a great career without a win in a major....then, tries to change his swing....

I guess we golfers are all nuts!

I alternate between my 1959 Hogan Sunburst irons and my 2016 Callaway Apex Pro irons. The Callaway's are superior in many ways but a good pass at it makes the sunburst irons work ok as well. I couldn't see how the swing should be different. I think Byron would have done fine with any equipment.
