As I recall CLGC is a short yardage Cornish design par 71. Not much for amenities. Lender is foreclosing.

I used to play that course (called Crystal Springs back then) often in college 25-30 years ago (coach got a great deal, I guess). If it's anything like it was back then, I don't think it would be a great loss if it got completely converted to housing. From Google Earth, it looks like they have already started that process. I don't have a general issue with Cornish designs -- he was generally good at making playable, maintainable courses for "the masses" -- but there are a couple of holes at CL that were just really horrible. On the 4th hole, the second shot down the hill would just roll and roll into the woods unless you managed to land the 190 yd shot on the front half of the green with some spin. On the 5th hole, anything other than a banana cut drive would just roll off the canted, bare "fairway" into the woods or, occasionally, the lake itself.

 

The rest of the course was fairly typical Cornish, with iffy conditioning, although I do recall a perpetually rock-hard 16th green and the in-course OB on 18. But man, just the thought of those other two holes makes me cringe, that many years later.

Love the course, hate the conditions. The 4th hole is terrible. They tried to make the 5th more playable but I'm not sure what it has become since it's been years since I've played there.

Not a fan. Played it years ago in the 3rd round of "The Rodgers" tourney and that was enough for me.

 

Course is even worse now that they have built housing right behind some of the greens. I drive by it on the way to play Atkinson and there never seems to be anyone out there playing it - not surprised they are in financial trouble.
