Throwing and smashing his club. Great example to young kids Rory. He gets worse by the day with his self entitled behaviour. Wonder how the top 4 quitters are enjoying their open :)

When I do, I do it drinking dos Equis

So like, mostly all of us have gotten mad at something before, we just weren't surrounded by a crowd and cameras at the time. But whatever we were doing we also weren't one of the world's best at it either, so no pressure, no big deal. So Rory has apparently gotten to a high frustration point lately... not meeting his own expectation, or everybody else's, of what he has seen, or they have seen him perform to. It's obvious he's done it before, so why doesn't it continue? Why doesn't it continue on this year for Jordan Spieth at last year's level? Why didn't it continue on for Yani Tseng? and on and on? Apparently there is some type of pressure from within and without that we can't understand, and they can't quite live up to it, that reaches certain types of frustration points for each individual. Some show it outwardly, when they can't continue to perform and some just keep trying, and some just slowly disappear into the unknown. Rory is only acting differently lately because he's not performing like the Rory others want him to be. IMO he threw his club because he hit a shot that didn't meet what others expected of him. Rory needs to lighten up, give himself a break and enjoy golf again like he did when he was younger.

Re his role model status, as Sir Charles said, "Just because I dunk a basketball doesn't mean I should raise your kids."

Thanks for reminding us of one the most boneheaded statements of all time. Nobody wants Sir Charles to raise anyone's kids, but the example he showed about how to live as a privileged, rich professional athlete in the spotlight made it tougher on parents to raise their kids. For example; how do you explain to your kid who loves the way he played with the 76ers that just because he got into a bar fight every six weeks, its not a good thing for anyone to do. Then the kid responds, 'so why does he get into trouble all the time'.

I will agree that part of the problem is that sports is way too important than it used to be, and media are on the lookout 24 hours a day for any athlete to get in some kind of legal trouble, including speeding, so they can get headlines. Still, if you are angry find a way to deal with it other than chucking your club down the fairway, or breaking it in half and dumping it into the gorse.Go somewhere a camera won't find you and let your frustrations out.

I believe the children are the future of golf. We need to teach them well, and then let them lead the way. We need to show them beauty this game posses, and give them a sense of pride to play it. I think sometimes a pro golfer needs to let the children laughter reming them how the game used to be.

Still I think it is fair to say everybody's searching for a hero because people need someone to look up to. Sadly I can't say I ever found anyone

who fulfilled my needs as a golf mentor. It was a lonely place, but learned to depend on me and not look to others.

As a result I decided never to walk in anyone's shadow. If I fail, or if I succeed at least I golf in a way I believe it best.
