Joseph Mayo - Trackmanmaestro

Just watched a couple video's and there is some interesting stuff. For instance I'm 51 and my swing speed is not like a 20 year old anymore and now I understand why my perfectly hit long iron's with a small divot don't fly that far. I hit a 4iron like an 8iron. But with the same intent of AoA and not enough swing speed the ball flight of my 4iron is not high enough and therefore too short. So next time I will hit my longer irons little bit more forward in my stance and more with a sweeping than a trapping action.

Why not read the original post. He would like to know about Mayo from anyone who has taken lessons from him. If you have not taken lessons from him how can you offer an opinion? The post does not ask what you think of his videos. Trashing an instructor who you have never taken a lesson from is cowardly. If someone takes a lesson and is unhappy with it, they should respond.

Not sure you want to take lessons or follow the advice of someone who can't break 90.

I've heard Joe has a terrible back condition. I'd give him a break.

If an instructor could make me better, I wouldn't care whether or not he could play the game better than me or well at all.....

If you extended that logic to the tour, what instructor would be qualified to teach guys like Tiger, Phil, etc?

Wasn't it Woody Allen that came up with the line "those who can't do, teach"?

Maybe he spends so much time teaching he doesn't have the time to keep up his handicap !

The idea that better golfers are better teachers is unlikely.

Teaching is an art not a sport.

An art for some, pseudoscience for others.

.

I think it is more bc he is a pretty new golfer. That's the basis of the criticism.

There are alot of good teachers that aren't amazing golfers.

I'm not sure how good or what style of teacher Jo Mayo is !

:)

You don't have to be amazing, but unless you were around scratch level or better for a while I don't want anything to do with a teacher and I've never gotten a good lesson from somebody who wasn't a solid plus. Most teachers are terrible, and of those, the bad players who don't know what a good swing feels like have an even higher percentage of being awful. I wouldnt want to be taught surgery by someone who hadn't done it at a high level, same with my golf. If you all want to believe these charlatans who spout this garbage about being able to teach if they can't play, that's fine. But trust me, I know a guy like that (teaches but can't play) and he constantly tells me how stupid he thinks his students are for paying him to teach them. He laughs all the way to the bank tho.

Jo Mayo was a freshman here at gwx only a few years ago. He asked all kinds of basic questions. He was about as far from being an expert as you can get - player or teacher. It doesn't mean he can't teach these days though. He has had plenty of time to catch up - at least on theory. But idk if he has even been in the single digits. id rather pick someone that I know has more knowledge than myself as a player and a teacher - and unless you're exceptional there are quite a few that have personal experience from a higher level of playing and a very solid understanding of the golf swing as well as teaching it.

Ideally you want a coach that has been to your next level - and has the tools to lead you there.

I'm not sure, but the UK government ran a series of ads with that tag-line

Is he still using the good old back excuse, he was using that a few years ago after being asked to post a swing video, when in actual fact he had just started playing golf with a borrowed set of spaldings that were too short for him

I have known Joe since 2010 and he will definitely give you the tools to hit the ball more solid and improve your swing.

He knows how to recognize a pattern with his launch monitor and apply the appropriate fix.

He'll also make you laugh a little a long the way.

I would recommend you make the investment. You won't forget it.

Anybody here had lessons off Joseph?

He's coming to the UK in August and I was thinking about getting some lessons with him. I follow his Twitter and I find his content very interesting.

Would love to hear from anyone who's had lessons with him.

For someone who preaches left wrist flexion (bowing) he sure doesn't do it in his swing. Doesn't mean he isn't great but guy is pretty limited to fixing slices, all he talks about is drawing the ball. He doesn't even teach putting either!!!!

& yeah, he's got great eyes, too. he can see everywhere, I've never seen him without his dark sunglasses.

I hope he takes them off in London.
