Why no lasers allowed on tour during competition days?

So most the posts in here are sarcastic and done by many members that have been here the longest...nice example fellas. Guy asks a question and he gets bombarded by all the usual GOLFWRx BS...youre not even funny and I'm sure the simple mindless jokes on the first tee must be an amazing experience.

Just answer the questions...nobody comes here for the comedy

i doubt you can hardly backup the claim that "nobody " comes here for the comedy... in fact most do.... i appreciate that you dont care for humor , but the questionn really has been discussed to death and the answer is truly obvious... it will NOT speed up play and it isnt needed... the caddies do their jobs and use GPS to map and plan the course before hand ... they have more inof in their pocket than an one person with a laser could possibly get in less than a minute before a shot.... is that serious enough for you ?

That's the only reason that I come here :)

But then again, Im a simple minded mother...... :)

Seriously, tell me someone comes here to let strangers select their clubs or even better to get swing advice from those same strangers ;)

FWIW, I didn't use the laser Madie bought me in one swat or tourney in 2012-

Hell, I'm still tryin to figure out now to use it. I zapped the nurse at the nurses' station and it said 127yds and no friggin way. Maybe 75-80'. Maybe.

Now it's probably as antiquated as my blades, lol

Besides, the guys who posted in here were having fun and not at the OP's expense.

If someone was doing that everyone of us would ba on their a** like flies on......

You've been around long enough to know that Hoges, Hawk, Deasy, Blade, Chris, G&F, Sui, Jasonic, KnockitS, JSlane, 2Putt, 2BG, Soma and Duff are as good as it gets around here and all would say something if someone was being a dick-

You can include me in that group also if they'll have me-

But I'd feel a Hell of a lot better about myself if I could figure out on my own how to use this damn first gen Bushnel ;)

BTW, when I get back in the game, what irons should I play?

Stay well my Friends :)

Fairways & Greens 4ever,

RP

Richard, that 's comedy Gold! Consider this your first warning! :busted_cop:

Bro, the one nurse saw me aiming at the station and got all in a huff cuz she said the "beam" could cause cancer, lmao. I love when someone with a little bit of knowledge tries using that limited knowledge to make assinide statements.

I knew it was crap but asked I asked my oncologist anyway and he just rolled his eyes, lol.

I actually have another patient use it to measure for the putting contests that I have for the patients. I'll give one of my Stones glove or a sleeve of Stones and this one ole guy cheated like a son of a b****, lmao. I'd mark off 8, 12 & 15' and he always would take his ball up about a foot, lol.

For Christmas I had the "Christmas Challenge" and it was from multiple distances, 36 holes(across two evenings) and I had a Nike Method 04(FB Blade). The "Raker" was in rare form and almost got into it with another ole guy and then the nurse's blame me cuz they say it's my responsibility to control these guys, lol.

Well, the Raker passed away and the guy that he had the dissagreement with said, "good, that was karma because He was a cheat," LMAO.

I swear to God, exact words and he was serious.

It's a very competitive crowd, lmao

Have a great weekend Bro :)

So that's the issue here...my idea of comedy would get me banned in a matter of minutes but the crap comedy that's accepted here is brutal...90% of dudes here are the guy on the tee who says "thats one" when their buddy accidently knocks it off the tee" it gets old like all the same jokes in these rooms...I enjoy the information...reading these awful jokes does get old...GOLFWRX has their own agenda which is fine but wheres the line drawn?

And yes the reason they don't use lasers is that it won't give a tour player any advantage over a yardagbook other than the magnification to see whats going on when the guys on the green are putting.

I pretty much stopped posting and I hardly read these forums anymore due to bunch on trolls/old timers know it all.

That's too bad because most of these guys are great guys and while sure, sometimes some can dig their heels in, most of the time and most of the guys are very nice and considering how large this board is, the trolling is not nearly as bad as some boards a fraction of WRX's size :) Maddie

They are so cute, lol. Two are in their 90's, and three are in their 80's, including "Raker," who really was a nice guy. The one 90yo+ man always comes down to Richard's room to watch ESPN and he has a double room and Richard has a single and he has to share the TV time with his roomemate. He asked Richard if they could share a room together since they both like ESPN & GC. Richard said no, that he has C diff, LMAO. One evening Bernie(this 92-93yo) was in Richard's room and I was laying on the bed with Richard and he was crawling around on the floor and Richard was trying to get his attention and it seemed that Bernie was ignoring him and Richard finally sat up and tossed his pillow at him, hitting him in the head(not hard at all, just to get his attention, lol) and he looked up and said that his ear pieces fell out when he knodded off in the chair and he couldn't hear without them, hahaha. Another one, one of the 80yo's, hit on Richard's mother, LMAO. She didn't have her ring on because her hands were swollen from chemo and he thought that she was single and she was nice to him, lol. It could be a reality sit-com and when something happens, Richard is usually in the middle of it, hahaha. Take care :) Maddie

Hey, even Siri knows fun.

My oldest daughter is home for three weeks before embarking on her quest to become a college professor, so naturally I take the afternoon off and we go golfing.

For some ungodly reason I can't remember the name Royal Melbourne. I have my first iPhone and ask Siri some questions, but she's lost. Swear to God she senses my frustration because out of the blue with no prompting she says, "Last week I played golf and broke 70 - that's a lot of clubs." My daughter and I looked at each other and just started laughing. What the heck!

Don't know if anyone else has gotten a random joke out of the blue like that, but a first for me.

So, fun killer from Peoria, even a computer goes straight to the golf humor when asked a serious question! Or is that "Siri-ous"?

Why oh why? Surely it would speed the game up to have bushnells (other lasers are available)!!!

I honestly don't think they need them. Any caddie worth his salt should be able to give his man any yardage to any flag/obstacle/hazard/tree/layup etc. Bushnels certainly speed up play at lower tier events, but at tour level professional caddies beat lasers all to hell.

Someone further back mentioned that the golfer would use the magnification to help read putts from the green ahead. I'd not think of that, but can surely see that happening. Why not watch Tiger hit his 4 foot putt with magnification? If/when Tour players get to use range finders there will surely be stipulations. Like max 4x zoom lens and no elevation help. In archery range finders are allowed in certain shoots and the sky (or pocketbook) is the limit. These things have great crystal clear magnification and calculate actual yardage along with cuts. Money does buy advantage when these tools are allowed...

I think it would speed up play but as someone mentioned the player will probably figure out a way to slow down or screw up his tempo...who knows. I play faster and score better.

Even courses they play that haven't changed from one year to the next I know they use rangefinders for practice rounds. Why? Quicker...has to be. Don't have to get out the yardage book and a pencil. Just use the laser and pin sheet for the most part on practice rounds.

Of course it would be faster....did you see Bones today walking off yards from drop by concession stand. Not picking on Phil, but he does hit some wayward shots. Phil says..."hey bones how far are we" ...Bones says.."Hold on shankopotumis...I've got to walk this off" or using range finder...Bones says..."143 yards" ...see faster.

When was the last time you watched golf on TV or in person and thought that you wished the caddie would hurry up and get a yardage and stop slowing everyone down?

Never I would say. ..

Pace of play has nothing to do gaining a number, and you if you don't think using a laser as well as using a yardage book would slow things down even more then you don't know much about golf. You realize you can't use a laser to shoot something like a bunker or lay up point if you can't see it, right?

They're using rangefinders (likely with slope) so they CAN make notes in their yardage book for when the tournament starts.

The adage books on our are so detailed that lasers would only be effective at giving the distance to the flag on approach shots.

The caddies/players would still then go to math problems of what is the front, back, carry, distance to x slope, or y bunker.

The laser would likely add a step in most cases...the books have so much detail that they still would rely on all the ther stuff.

Jason days caddie telling him the slope is 3% behind the hole last week is a good example.

When there are basic, or no yardage books, the lasers are huge and save time imo

lol @ the guy who doesnt come here for comedy.

on a serious note, no lasers are allowed because theyre dangerous.

Interesting, the dangerous part. Lasers are allowed on practice round days. And there are plenty large galleries those days. And for us regular guys, who doesn't just laser the guys on the putting green when getting yardages?

When I laser guys on the greens on par 3s I always aim for the crotch - not for safety - but because it's funny obviously. Like when a ball falls off the tee and someone in your groups says "one". I love that!

I've never understood the point of that.

The argument of laser over gps is accuracy. How accurate are you when you laser a dude 10' from the hole? You're still 3 yards off and might as well use a GPS.

A rough idea is sometimes all you need. If that rough idea is not precise enough, I will then laser the pin. I would prefer GPS 95 percent of the time, but the lasers are useful in other sports/applications, so that's what I've got...
