Australia need help

So I am looking at possibly doing a trip to Australia next year for golf. I have no idea where to start looking. Is it easy to set up courses on your own? Has anyone used a golf tour for Australia. If so how was the package they put together? I don't see much talk on this site about this general area but thought I would put this out here because you guys are a pretty knowledgeable group. Thanks

I ended up living in Australia for a while but before that I took a trip to Melbourne/Sydney and set it up all myself. Contacted all courses directly and found them easy to deal with. When I visited I played pretty much every "name" course. I had no idea that 3 months later I would move to Sydney for work. Loved Australia and almost relocated there permanently.

I would say that it is very easy to do yourself if you want. No need to use a trip organizer. Don't miss Tasmania.

Coming from the US (yep, that's an assumption) you won't find it too hard to get on most courses. I work at one of the best private Members' clubs in Sydney and most of the courses (even private ones) have special rules around international guests.

A letter of introduction from you club's a handy thing to have, as is plenty of time to arrange a game.

For most of the tier 1 courses in Australia, expect to pay in the order of AUD$300-$500 for a game. If you;re after recommendations of courses to play, I'm sure there's plenty of peeps from the land down under on here.

I'm figuring that I would like to play in the Victoria area. Royal Melbourne, Kingston Heath, Victoria National, Commonwealth, Metropolitan. Yes I would be coming from the United States.

Royal Melbourne (West), Kingston Heath, Victoria, Metropolitan and Commonwealth (I'd play them in that order) are all within about 20 minutes of each other and about 30 minutes from Melbourne CBD.

You could also head down the Mornington Peninsula (about a 80-90 minute drive from the CBD) and play National Old, National Moonah, St Andrews Beach, The Dunes and Sorrento (also in the order with a few other good options in the area).

How much golf do you want to play?

I live in Tasmania.

In Victoria, RMGC is awesome especially the west course. Haven't played metropolitan but it is very short. Huntingdale is next door and is one of my favourite courses. Kingston Heath is a must and so is Victoria. Peninsula is worth a look as is the Dunes. If you want a real experience fly from Melbourne to King island and play Cape Wickham then fly down to Tasmania and play Lost Farm and Barnbougle Dunes. I think there are companies organising tours for that.

That's a great list..you should play,in order. .

Royal/Kingston

Victoria (it's just Victoria, not Victoria national)

Metropolitan

And Commonwealth

Go to each of these clubs websites, I think you will find info on how to play.

If you're in Melbourne, take the time and go to Tasmania and play Barnbougle and Lost Farm.

I would recommend jumping on a plane from Melbourne and going to King Island to play Cape Wickham (already world top 100) and the newer course Ocean Dunes. I played both earlier in the year and they are AWESOME. Having played both Pebble Beach and Turnberry let me tell you they lose nothing by comparison except that the surf is huge and present on every hole just about. You can stay overnight at the Currie Hotel for zip. (There's only one town on the island).

Going to Melbourne over the holidays for a personal creative project and would also like to get some good moderately priced WEEKLY lessons while there...

Would like to find an instructor using LMs to record and look at data & video. Strange, quirky or abnormal personalities are a plus. (Creative minds think alike...)

Any and all recommendations are welcome, tactfully delivered via DM on here, and ready!

Thanks in advance,

mark

Incidentally, I'll be staying in St. Kilda/South Yarra area, at a friend's, virtually across the street from the Albert Park (Public?) Course...

Couldn’t put together a better Melbourne golf dream trip right there
