I have been playing my rac LT's (first version) since 2005 and I've been considering going to the R7 TP's. Has anyone made this switch? Are you happy you did it or do you regret it? What are the pro's and cons of this switch? I have always played with the S300 would you recomend tring something else? Thoughts.

THANKS!

My stats:

8.6 handicap, Rac LT's 4-SW, 4* upright, S300 shaft. Hit 8 iron around 160 yrds (approx 87 mph iron speed, 105 driver)

Titleist 910D2
TaylorMade SIM 5 Wood
TaylorMade RBZ 4 Hybrid
PING i210
PING Glide 3.0 54* 58*

I recently made the switch. I have nothing but great things to say about the r7tps. I was swinging the Original RAC LT's which I believe they made the r7 tps after. Everything that the Original Rac's had plus the added benifit of updated technology. Even when I put a bad swing on these things they tend to want to go straight. Easy to work, high low stingers cuts draws.. I also gained a full club. In the RAC I had 6.0 rifles...and decided to go DGs300 in the TPs. I played Poppy Hills last week and hit a lot of 8 irons into 170 yard par 3's. My SS is 115 on average with the driver. Do it...You will not be dissapointed! :D :)

I played RAC LTII for two years and a couple of months ago I decided to upgrade looking for same forgiveness (at least), better feel and enhanced precision in the shorter irons.

First option was clearly R7TP but, for me, they clearly did not work: Less forgiveness, not a great improvement in terms of feel and slight precision enhancements.

I tried them at the range and at my home course for three rounds (I really wanted to like them) but without success.

After testing other irons I came up with two finalists that worked great for my swing and matched my three initial requirements: Titleist 735cm and Ping S58. Ping had better forgiveness and Titleist a much sweeter feel.

Good luck in your search.

PS: I also have 105ss with driver (10.2 HCP) and I'm playing Rifle Flighted 5.5 (+0.5", +3º UP). In my opinion they have a sweeter feel than DGS300 and you have the added benefit of higher ball flight in longer irons and more precision in the shorter ones.

This year i switched from the LT's (2002 version) and upgraded to the r7 tps. I have nothing but praise for the r7 tps. When you hit them well they feel great, but even slight to not so slight miss hits still go a decent length. Ball flight is much better with the tps, but that may be because i upgraded from rifle 6.0's to project x rifle 6.0s which helps me keep the flight down. I seem to be getting a little extra distance out of all my irons as well.

I'm on the fence whether or not they are more or less forgiving, but the r7tps seem to be easier to work than the lt 2002. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the switch, and i'd reccomend trying the s300 and the rifles to see which you really like better. Most people say they don't like the looks of these irons, but for whatever reason i love them.

Hope this helps a bit! :D

Im curious as to if anyone has thrown a set of black golds in these irons. My SS can handle and X100...but because of ball flight reasons, I went with the s300. I think before the R7tps...The original LT's were the best retail club that taylormade has ever made. I personally think the LT2 sucked...some people loved them though :D

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
