OZIK SHAFTS - FT'5's and BSG

This is my first post on what looks like to me a wonderful site to be on and I am glad I joined. I have been a BSG follower for over a year a couple days ago I stumbled upon GolfDiscussion.com (which to me had some good information but a lot of BSG bashers) Today I came across this site because Derek aka DTOWN referred to this site as a great source of legit information. Well enough about that. I just found a 9.5 FT5 with an Ozik XCON 6 X shaft (ok...maybe I was brainwashed for getting the OZIK) seemed like a good deal for 450.00 with an OZIK why not. Well I am coming from an FT-3 with a BLue Board DIamana 63 STiff 9.5...I had some launch issues with that club ever since I have been making my 1 plane swing changes from a 2 plane. Can I expect higher launch angles with the FT-5 with the XCON6? By the way its an X flex. I read that the FT-5 is higher launching than the FT-3 and that the XCON is a high launch shaft...I always have played Diamana's in my woods, I really do hope this isn't a downgrade going to the XCON. Your thoughts???? :D :)

If you are in the middle of a swing change, you will be nearly impossible to fit until your swing is consistant.

I'd hardly call Diamana Blueboard a "downgrade" shaft. The Ozik may be more expensive, but you want the shaft that fits you, not the shaft that costs the most.

Well I have a Superquad with an Xcon 7 (kinda funny considering I'm a BSGExile) in it that I'm going to take for a test drive tomorrow. The Superquad head is supposed to be higher launching as well. I'm either going to be very happy with this thing or you'll see a shaft in the BST on Saturday LOL.

As for going from S Diamana to X in Ozik...I don't think it really matters...a lot of people have said the shafts play light to flex.

We could have done without the first 3-4 sentences of your first post.

As to downgrade? and a Diamana or Ozik -- it's what fits you. Both are excellent shafts. I'd ask Derek for his expert opinion -- why send you over here when he knows the answers? That seems odd.

NO...I didnt buy it from BSG...although I was influenced by all the Ozik Reviews....actually got it on fleabay...lol... Derek didn't send me over here for info either...He was just mentioning of all the other forums and said nothing but good things about this one. As far as launch monitor numbers. I havent got on one recently, but my numbers were ideal before with the FT-3 ...

12* launch

2500-2600 rpms

171 ball speed avg...could have carried it further with that ball speed though...my average carry was in the 280 range. My swing speed is 115-120 range...

And to clarify, I was asking if it was a down grade going to the XCON shaft. I have nothing but Diamana in all my other shafts. I was wondering if I would expect higher launch numbers with the FT5 combo compared to the FT3 combo??? Anymore thoughts? I am just impatient sorry guys...and I want to be comforted....since I bought the OZIK and all...Hopefully it lives up to its hype :D

Cota,

No offense but, your post seems to be counter to lots of people's perception and experience. BSG is not know for recommending any other site but their own.

Ozik work well for some people but, there are many profiles and variables to consider for best result and cost is not a high ranking factor in fitting for some here.

Before sending me a message for help, please look at the website support section:

I am not sure if this is allowed but check this out

He quoted this...

It's sad that instead of coming up with their own content like some REPUTABLE golf web sites (BSG, WRX) that other sites have to resort to stealing posts from other sites and claim them as their own. The word desperate comes to mind.

His words not mine...LOL... I will be happy to write a detailed review on the FT5 OZIK vs FT3 Diamana...I should have the club in about 4 days or so. :D

I had a ft 3 757 x in 9.5 and now am playing a ft-5 757 x at 8.5. The launch is a bit more boring in the 8.5 ft-5 than my 9.5 ft-3. Many of you will say of course a 9.5 is a bit more loft than an 8.5. However the ft-3 is considered a very low spin head and the Ft-5 considered a bit higher spin head.

Shafts are the same 757 x. I have to say i prefer the ft-5 over the Ft-3.

Assuming your LM data are correct, You only need to increase your LA a bit. Higher tee could've fixed the problem probably.

However, it all depending also on the type of courses and weather you are playing mostly and the tendency of missing it on the low side or high side.

Anyway, You should be hitting the ball at least higher now...but direction of the ball is another issue that you'll face. I hope to the better of course.

Enjoy your visit here and welcome!

Well I am coming from an FT-3 with a BLue Board DIamana 63 STiff 9.5

I am all ears on how your combo turns out, I'll be lurking.....

Did you consider keeping the Diamana to see how it works in the FT-5 head?

I considered the Diamana BB...But I came across the XCON and was curious to see if all the hype is

BS(g) :bad: Or if its really a great shaft. I should get it this week and I will let you all know what the real deal on it is. Thanks for all your replies guys!

Worst case scenario, you can pull the Ozik XCon and get decent money for it.

And, it might work out for you with those numbers--could reduce spin a few 100 rpm and increase launch 1 to 2 degrees with the FT5/XCon.

If that doesn't work for you, you might want to try the Diamana WhiteBoard with those SS numbers.

All are good shafts, you just have to try & test for your best fit.
