Was digging through my golf cabinet the other day and found a stash of the original 4 pc ball. Took some out to the course, and was reminded of how good this ball was. Hope anything new is of this level of quality. In the meantime, I'm gonna have to work through the couple of dozen I found. I still prefer the TP5x, but at the price point you can't go wrong.

I love the feel and short game performance of the 3 piece but lose too much off the tee. As a shorter hitter I can't afford to give up tee distance. I find the QST and Duo Pro give me more distance off the tee(especially the Duo Pro) but don't quite feel as good(although they don't feel bad) or check as much around the green. Once I adjust for a little more roll out either works very well for me.

  • 4 weeks later...

I’d play the wedges just to watch equipment snobs turn they’re nose up at them.

The Spy site dropped some negativity on the current Performance + today, so the new 3 piece should be hitting stores soon. They seem to do this stuff to protect their boy Snell as needed. Anyway, the conforming ball list has 2 new K-Sigs on it. One is a new Performance + 3 piece and the other is a new Performance One 4 piece, both with new markings than past releases.

The 3 piece was supposed to drop later this month, right?  Hopefully they'll do a free shipping offer as an intro since it probably won't hit stores here until at least spring.  Summer stuff is disappearing from our stores so I have a hard time seeing them bringing in a new item as winter approaches.  I'm hoping the putters might appear with them. I'd really like to check one out before buying.

Just to make sure my memory is correct from four years ago, are these the original 4pc balls circa 2016-2017?

There's a course at the beach I play several times a year and I always seems to lose at least a sleeve of balls there (sometimes much, much more when it's windy). So I wanted to stock up on some decent used balls that I wouldn't worry about losing down there.

GolfBallsDirect.com had a sale last week and I picked up 8 dozen mint condition for about 71 bucks, shipped. At 75 cents a ball I don't care how many of them end up in a lateral hazard, other than the added stroke on my score of course.

I'm hoping these are the original ball, I remember they performed quite well for me when I tried a test sleeve kindly provided to me by a friend. If they aren't the original, they will still serve my purposes over my next few beach trips.

By the way, I grabbed a random few handfuls of balls out of the bag and the ones I looked at were all pristine. GolfBallsDirect's 5A quality seems as promised.

Negativity? Or Truth? MGS doesn’t publish much that I take to

heart and their ball lab is minority subjective as well but, the things they’re measuring for are relatively undisputable. When they give opinions on stuff, then they lose me.

As of right now, KSIG hasn’t made a ball that can last 18 and be played another round (for me) because the original had garbage durability, 3 piece is repulsive, and the gold 4 piece sucked harder than the first KSIG.
Let’s see what happens next. I’d take Snell any day of the week over KSIG (all). I think no one can really question Deans input in the golf ball world. Costco ain’t making balls.

Agreed. If you don't like the op ed commentary, simply ignore it and focus on the objective portion.

Also, the implication of shilling or sponsor influence is laughable for a few reasons:

1) many big OEMs receive favorable results in various tests even though they don't accept their money.

2) if maximizing revenue was their goal, there are dozens of OEMs that could offer far more than Snell can.

3) their published results for Snell's balls have not been perfect (MTB-X had the highest average dispersion in their 2019 test and the ball lab found some layer inconsistencies).

4) they gave the original KSig a very favorable review several years ago (the K3 while a relatively good value is is still one of the worst urethane balls available from a performance standpoint).
