Clubs everyone else loves, and you don't: ie Apex CF16

Recommended Posts

Any club with a custom stamping.

Although I could see it being useful in some situations, like if the alzheimers kicks in you can check your wedges to be reminded of your own name. That's if you didn't stamp it with your favourite caddyshack quote.

I played one round with an old guy once. Still not sure if gunga galunga was his real name.

Haha what do you think of this idea:

I've been a huge Top Gun fan since I was a little kid. I want to get stamped on my wedges this:

54*: 2 CLOSE 4 MISSILES

58*: SWITCHING 2 GUNS

Love it LOL!!!

I hate irons and wedges covered with damn lead tape! I understand the purpose, but man it makes your clubs look terrible.

Just picked up set of mp60 irons, as good as my mp5 and mp64, feel same, same sole grind, same forgiveness and $900 cheaper.......this category has changed pretty much 0 from 10 yrs ago.....amazing to hit these old sticks again and see how little if nothing has changed.........I was truly shocked after my 2nd Rd to see the reality........slightly weaker lofts is only thing thing I can see as being different........perform as good as anything and I have hit alot of clubs ....

And I had the clubs when they came out, it was just too long ago to remember how they stacked up......I am sure this scenario is same with any other model in this category as well for that timeframe.......nothing has changed cept the lofts

It's just the shiny and new fascination that sells irons, not performance.........no

Vokeys - felt heavy. Tried several times but still don't understand all the love.

Titliest 910 D2 - seems to be a cult classic but it never worked for me. Tried a couple of shafts but invariably a whack with a playing partner's driver would send the ball over the top of mine. Gave up trying to work it out.

YES putters - popular a while back but feel was hard IMO. Shame, nice looking putters.

Funny about the ProV1 and ProV1x. I agree, though; didn't like the ProV1 as it span too much, but the 1x seems to work well with me. Good balance of spin and distance.

Vokey wedges would be the biggest one for me.. Seems like everyone loves them, and I just don't care for them.

AP2's.. Found them enjoyable to hit in the sense of play, but comparing them to other irons in the same category, they just don't stand out as anything special in feel.

Cobra drivers as well. Id love to try the LTD, but outside of that, I haven't cared for the rest. That being said, they're King pro mb's were fantastic.

Ping G30 and G30 LS. Hit a fellow lefties at the range the other day and let him try mine. He said he liked his driver more than any driver he had hit before that, now he doesn't like it either. Just felt dead in comparison.

JDM has pretty much ruined my taste for many clubs, but there's still some out there that I do really like.

All Ping GXX irons.

I had heard all these great things about Ping irons when I first started playing golf and was excited when I rented clubs 5 years ago in Arizona and they handed me a bag full of Ping G10 irons and woods. At the time I had been playing Callaway X-12 irons a family member loaned me so I thought the G10's would a significant improvement, I hated them. I hated the woods, the irons and the wedges. My business partner at the time also rented a set and he hated them as well.

For 4 years I refused to even test a Ping iron based on the horrible experience with the G10's. I have tested and liked the G30 SF Tec and G SF Tec driver but still hated the G irons. To date the only Ping irons I like are the i25's, though the iBlades do look nice too.

I felt this way about the first M1 I received before I knew they tipped their shafts an inch. I went back to the M1 with an untipped shaft and it was night and day for me.

Seriously??? They tip automatically? I had an unhittable 430 m1 earlier this year and the shaft specs were my typical Aldila setup in extra stiff. Ordered from golftown custom with no request for tipping. Someone help me out here, is this true??? My m1 love is not shared with the rest of the masses. Maybe this is the reason?

Couple of references but yes, I believe I've read on here that TM routinely tips their driver shafts WITHOUT it being requested.

I'll echo the comments here regarding the 716 AP2's. The harshest feeling premium iron I think I may have ever hit. Even center face strikes felt awful. Also Vokey wedges (at least the SM6's). Again awful feel. I was a little surprised at how I felt about those because I've had Titleist irons and wedges in the past and liked them a lot. But it had been a while.

Any Nike Driver.

Titleist irons - I can hit them, but I just never liked the feel of them. Feel heavy and clunky (outside of the tungsten irons)

Adams 9015D - absolutely not

Mitsubishi shafts - Never find that right combination of butt and tip stiffness. Usually way to butt stiff for my swing.

I've had my AP1 714's for a month or so now, but still can't hit them consistently.

When I did my iron fitting I was hitting the 716 AP1 absolutely fantastic, but since I didn't want to spend $1200 on new clubs I grabbed a used set of 714's for 1/3 of the price since from what I read they played very similar to the 714. Same shaft too.

I've had a few that I've hit flush and they looked and felt great, but a lot of my shots with them just feel dead. Not sure what's going on as irons are usually a strong point in my game.

Almost tempted to switch back to my older, smaller Adams A4's.
