I was playing TaylorMade R7 TP irons for the last 10 years. I hit them well but felt it was time to move on (although I still have them). All/most of the new irons I demo'd were giving me approx an extra club. Not sure if that is more aggressive lofts, shaft/head technology, or a combination of all - but I'm enjoying my new irons. They go forever.

I also played r7's forever. Tried a few different sets but always came back to the trusty old taylormade's. However, picked up the apex cf16 earlier this year. I will not get rid of my r7's, but I'm pretty sure the apex's are real safe. First time I've been able to say that though.

I met a guy from WRX 10 years ago and we've easily played 250+ rounds together. He's playing the same Tourstage Z101 irons as the day I met him. I've gone through countless clubs and he's still playing (and scoring well with) the same set.

A good lesson most WRX'ers struggle with.

I understand wanting new irons. But I don't understand buying new irons with the preconceived mindset that you will only keep them for 3 years, until you buy a newer set.

the biggest misconception is new irons improve dispersion or accuracy........it's a complete joke

You have a golfer with tons of moving parts, emotions, flaws that change daily and then you have the a big hunk of steel that only 2000 degrees of heat can change that actual molecular structure of........so tell me how an iron is ever at fault, lol

I hit my 10 yr old mp60 same as I did my mp5 or any iron for that matter.....the golfer is at fault 100% of the time........a club can only fine fine tune a specific result that is already good to begin with, not alter it

I buy a ton of new chit cuz I like new chit, but not to change my game....haha

Been playing a set of mint mp-30's with the original serial number ferrules for the past 2 seasons. I've played a set of 33's 37's and 32's. I'll game a set of +10 year old Mizuno's any day.

I just made my set of MP30's the backup set for a set of minty fresh MP33's. The first time I've ever had a backup set. I've been gaming the MP30's since they came out.

I'm still gaming the 06/07 Titleist 735 CM combo set. I set them up with the pw at 48* and have never looked back (or forward). I only wish the 7 iron was a blade.

Still game Hogan edge Apex pros. Have thought about time after time, getting new irons. But I can't do it. Every tin I have demos, I can't get used to seeing something else next to my ball during the setup. Bought them new in 05/06. Have strongly considered buying another better looking set, to game. As mine scoring clubs are pretty worn in the sweet spot. But still get great distance out of them, & still spin the ball with them.

For me 1980 Macgregor VIPs I bought them new never hit in the box in 90

I did let them rest for 4 years or so when I gamed a set of MP-33s but they are resting some now and were replaced with these

Not sure of the year they are NOT 20th anniversary Muirfields but they have been rechromed and I changed the shafts to S-300 Tour issue and soft stepped them 1x. The 2 iron is a 1999 Hogan Apex the head was given to me by a great fellow WRXer Peanuts Daddy

When I play vintage I play older stuff than that

1962 Macgregor FC 4000s my Dad got them new in 62 when he was a Macgregor staffer. I played them on and off growing up and he never would get rid of them even when he changed club deals. He never would give them to me either but would let me play them from time to time. He finally gave them to me the fall before he died at age 83 that following spring. He played his last round of golf with me with him hitting those irons that fall. i play them vintage some along with different persimmon woods from time to time

Another pic of the Muirfields in a Mac green and white staff bag

Still using the Nike Blades I bought in 2004, and now they have pulled out I really don't see me changing them for anything else - I did try some Titleist 716 MB's but preferred the ball flight and feel of the Nikes, even if the MB's were a touch longer.

Only thing I want to do is get them adjusted - I bought them off the peg, and at 6 foot 2 I suspect they may be a little flat/short for me. Has anyone had any luck getting older irons adjusted? A fitting I did recently (where the attendant suggested I replace the blades with a set of Ping I's......) suggested I need 1 degree upright and an inch longer than standard - is this easy enough to do?

//edit I completely forgot my spare set are now pushing 20 years old - a set of Yonex Rekin Super 10 Tours. I've used them once since I bought the Nikes, still lovely irons if you're a fan of cavities however.

The Dee Three - Titleist TS4 9.5 deg, EvenFlow White 6.5 65g, A1 Setting

Henrik - Titleist 917 F3 15 deg, Rogue Max 75x, B2 Setting

The Walking Stick - Titleist 818 H2 19 deg, Rogue Max 85x, B2 Setting

The Interloper - TaylorMade P770 3 iron, S400 Tour Issue, +0.5inch +1 deg loft

The Blades - Nike VR Pro 4 - AW, S400 Tour Issue, +0.5 inch

The Sand Iron - TaylorMade MG2 TW-12 Grind, 56 degree, S400 Tour Issue

The Flopper - TaylorMade MG2 TW-11 Grind, 60 Degree, S400 Tour Issue

The Putter - Nike Method 003 from The Oven

Bending them a degree upright shouldn't be a problem. Getting them extended can also be done fairly easily by adding a bit extra on the butt (which means removing the grip). It won't change flex, but I'm pretty sure it will change swing weight (and deadweight). Or you pull the shafts and get new ones put in that are an inch longer. An inch is a big extension, though.

Incidentally, I think that extending them will in fact make them more upright, but you should check that on the club builders' forum because I not sure.
