Newport Labor Day Weekend Golf

3 of my buddies and i just planned a last minute trip to Newport, RI for the upcoming labor day weekend and we are looking to golf on either saturday or sunday. What course do you suggest we play and what are the best times to play to avoid a long round? We understand that avoiding a long round, especially on a holiday weekend, might be tough, but id figure id still reach out to you guys for suggestions.

 

We were thinking about playing Newport National, but we still need to call to inquire about tee times. Do you guys have any other suggestions?

If you're coming up from NY for just one day, then yes, Newport National is a great choice. If you have more time and want to play some other courses, Meadowbrook in Richmond, RI should be on your list. You could also check out Montaup CC in Portsmouth, RI (just a little north of Newport).

I find holiday weekends around here hit or miss. It could go either way, be really busy, or not busy at all. Many times centered around the start of the school year, and all that.

 

Morning weekend tee times at Montaup are all members until 11am ish.

 

You should call NN asap to get your Weekend tee time. If it's full up, then Meadowbrook.

Played Newport National on Monday. Considering the drought in the area it was in great shape. I don't remember seeing anyone on the course.

We ended up playing Newport National on Sunday.We called the day before and were able to get a 1pm tee time. What a great course, the fairways, greens, bunkers and tee boxes were all in top shape. Can't wait to play there again when there isn't as much wind.
