SRIXON 765 Initial thoughts and pics!

Still like mine but having trouble, I think (hard to say since, you know, I’m not good at golf and try to get better by buying new stuff vs. practicing), with the c-taper shaft (feels heavy - may RE shaft with lighter modus that everyone seems to rave about.

Giving these a timeout even though nothing beats them in feel and forgiveness and personal distance if I get the club head in the right zip code!

Trying operation one length for a while. Srixon will be hard to keep down for long, tho!

Can't beat the feeling after pured shots, but I too am going to take a time out from these. Been playing them for about 8 months, but I don't think the shafts are a good fit for me. Will think about re-shafting as well, but going back to my old apex irons for now.

Was fitted for my shaft and had a handful of heads that would work well for me. After looking at the options, Srixon was the only one that looked super sexy to me. Have had them for about 12 rounds now, and a number of practice sessions. I am absolutely floored by the look, feel, performance of these clubs. I got the combo set and the 5&6 irons are so easy to hit now. No big distance gaps between clubs. I really have nothing critical to say about them. I am a believer that the shaft is most important.

Finding that I am working on controlling the ball alot more now, trying to hit a small draw, big draw, baby fade, high shot, low punch. I could never do these thing very well with my old set. A+ rating.

Added the U65 3 iron as well

how would these comapre with Ap2? Size wise, distance wise and forgiveness

I came out of 714 AP2s. The Srixons may be slightly bigger along the topline, but barely if at all. Neither are blade-thin, but both look like players irons over the ball. For me, the Srixons have a lower launch, and are more forgiving -- especially on thin or toe hits. I am a natural high ball hitter, though.

The Srixons are particularly forgiving on slightly thin hits -- where the AP2 lose 10+ yards, the Srixons are actually longer than normal on thin hits, as they spin less than a flush shot. Overall, the Srixons are 8-10 yards longer per club for me, but they are also 2* stronger down to the 9.

I think the 718 AP2, which I have demo'd but never gamed, are much closer in forgiveness to the Srixons than the 714s. Feel is pretty much identical to me. I probably would have bought the 718s had they not been $400+ more money.

I have a combo set 5, 6 are 565 and 7-PW are 765 with C-taper lite. The Mizuno fitting iron shaft reported my recommended shafts as either a Modus 105 or the C Taper lite, both x flex. The light weight shaft is actually more like a firm stiff though. I tried the Modus but absolutely love the feel of these heads with the amazing smooth feeling of the CTL shafts. I really do like these clubs. They’re great for my usual miss out on the toe with minimal distance loss. I get a very nice, high flight that I can still punch super low with plenty of spin. For one of the first times ever, I’m truly content with my bag.....knock on wood...

I’m well past the honeymoon chapter and have moved on.

In hindsight, irons as larger than typical forged design and also stronger lofted. I don’t miss trying to mate the long and short end of the bag, actually just gave up and moved on to Mizuno because the lofts were more neutral.

As much as I like the feel of the 120 Modus, it was impossible for me to match the lofted wedges to the PW which left a disconnect in my feel and swing.

Feel wise, they are superb definitely but the strong lofts and mating issues on the long end, short end and shaft weights was more than enough for me to abandon Srixon.

Going to a srixon demo day next month. But won't be ordering my new irons till the next model comes out. I always wait at least a full model year before I buy my clubs. How would the would the srixon 765s compare to a j36 pocket cavity?

What do you mean by mating issues? I have 765's and want to know why I have not discovered any mating issues?

Wanted to ask the experts here. Picking a new set of irons for a buddy who’s started playing more and wants to dump his massive Callaways. He’s a 12, decent ball striker, will be heading towards the 8 cap range I imagine. Doesn’t hit his irons very far. 5 or 7 series?

Depends on what he wants/needs.

If he wants more distance, both the 5 and 7 are a bit on the strong loft side - so either can apply. I would strongly suggest 5 series in the 5&6 irons, a bit more forgiveness and a touch stronger lofts - this will help his long game. Then he can go all 5 series or do a combo set with the 7 series in the 7-P. I am a 10 handicap and play the combo set, no regrets. I had Cally x-12 shovels many years ago and got tired of the huge look. Srixons are sexy clean.

I demoed a 718 ap2 7 iron a couple weeks ago. Was trying different shafts because I've been thinking about reshafting my j36s. But the srixon is in the list to try for sure

Anyone able to compare 745/765 to the J40 CB irons I'm selling in terms of head size, top line etc?

Bend them 2 degrees weak like I did. I love having a 30 degree 6 iron and 48 degree pw. I'm partying like it's 1999.

Giving these a hard look...im a 12-15 cap player...irons play is average to above average...these out of my league?

I am right in your cap range and I game a full set of 765s. I have never hit my irons as well as I do now. If I could putt worth a damn I'd be a lower cap. Don't be afraid to go full 765 if you want to.

I'd lean towards a combo with 565's, 765's are forgiving, but they're still a players cavity. I didn't like the strong lofts of the 565 in the short clubs, so that's why I combo'd.

Worth noting that some are aren't too keen on the shape of the z765 PW, I have the z965 PW and would definitely recommend.

Playing 765/565 combo with Modus 120x. They are 1* strong and I still hit them sky high which is not my usual flight. They tend to be long, additional note is that I don't feel like I can stretch the distance or 'gun' a club for extra distance (attribute: consistent distance). Great feel and outstanding around the greens.

I agree. I have a set of CF16s that are really great sticks but I can hit a 7 iron from 165 to 180. I love their distance but need a more predictable yardage.

The 765s are exactly that. They provide me with a more predictable distance for each stick
