Ping Eye-2 Lob Wedge - Anyone Using?

EntourageLife

Recommended Posts

Interested to know if anyone using the Ping Eye-2 Lob Wedge? Either original or the new edition "XG" which is identical to original except features conforming grooves. I used the original Eye-2 Lob wedge all through teenage years (many many years ago) with much success and have had trouble finding anything that feels as good or as reliable. It's still amazing for lob shots and best club out of bunker I've found. Still able to hit low lining pitch shots up to 50-60 yards. I'll have a little trouble with full-swing shots up to 80-85 yards because of bounce but those shots are rare anyway.

My other two wedges are Vokey 54 degree and Vokey 48 degree. Tried all Vokey 58-60 degree and nothing compares to feel of Ping Eye-2 Lob. Interested in comments thanks...

I have both the new Eye 2 Gorge S and L wedges.

Honestly, there is very little difference between these two so I only carry the S.

Both wedges have a lot of bounce so I carry a low bounce 60 instead of the L to add to bag diversification.

I've been using a 50* and 58* Vokey, but a 53* Eye 2+ Sand Wedge. Funny thing is that I tend to use the Eye 2 for everything inside 100 now, and the Vokeys are just bag ornaments.

Do you know the exact degree of the Eye-2 sand wedge "S"? Is it 53*? I would like to get one at 54*. Do u know if they ever had one?

The Original Ping Eye 2 Sw is 57.5* The Lw is 61*

The Eye 2+ Sw is 53* with the Lw being 58*

The newer XG's are 56 and 60.

I have both the original 58* S and the original 60* L wedges. I like them both but for practical purposes, I never actually found a difference between the two other than the BELIEF, never practical, that the 58* goes farther. In all around the green work they are the same in my eyes, though the L wedge appears better looking. I never got to actually playing regularly with the L wedge, it just never seemed needed regardless that I also never parted with it.

I have a BeCu SW, stainless SW, and stainless LW, as well as a stainless Eye 2+ Sw. I love these wedges.

For what they can be used for, they are absolutely fantastic wedges.

Just bend the 53 one degree. That will not be an issue.

Thanks. That's exactly what I was thinking. I appreciate the comment. I'll get that SW and match loft to my Vokey 54* and test.

REALLY APPRECIATE THE COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK. I've tried every LW/60*/58* and nothing can match the confidence I have with the Eye-2 LW. I enjoy the fact the a wedge from 25+ years ago is giving me better results than anything current (helped that Ping re-released the new retro XG's). I know the current driver's and most other golf club advancements are leaps and bounds better than yesteryear's equipment BUT just because something's new doesn't mean it'll automatically improve a golf game or a single shot...

  • 1 year later...

I use a 50º Ben Hogan TK15, Ping Eye 2+ SW & a Vokey SM6 58º I think I could drop the 58º as the Eye 2 + SW is so versatile, probably one of the best wedges ever made, I've got a BeCu one on it's way to me

Right now, I've got the L XG. And, I'm wearing it out.

Just picked up a BECU EYE2 L, along with an L EYE2+No+, and a EYE2 SW with the upside down print. That should do me for a few years. They are just too good out of the sand and too good around the greens from 50 yards and in from tight lies.

Using a 1985 real square groove lob wedge. Own an XG I use with my forged blade set as well.

Is the + no + the square grooves but with the + shape ? if so that would be nice to get hold of.

Exactly. I have a whole set of +no+ 3-LW now, 3-SW all matching and the new one. The 3-SW are almost unused. Hoping the same for the LW.

The Eye2 LW is my holy grail.

Just picked up a mint Eye 2 + no + SW on ebay, it's to upright for me, but hopefully it can still be made flatter, I'm really not keen on the Eye 2 sole, I'm more of a sweeper, so I don't like a lot of bounce & the Eye 2 + shape just sits better for me. So that shape with the square grooves should be perfect.
