Ping Eye-2 Lob Wedge - Anyone Using?

EntourageLife

Recommended Posts

Just got the wedges the other day. I was taking a chance on the condition, as you do sometimes and I have to say I got lucky. The BECU original LW is really nice. Very similar to the XG, just a little harder. It's a little tricky off tight lies (my living room carpet and child flooring) but I am really excited to put it in the bag after it gets a new grip. Still had the original grip in decent condition, as well as writing on the shaft band. It's gonna get a thrashing soon though.

The others were nice too. Especially the original SW. At 57.5. It could find a place in my bag sometime. The +no+ LW is an interesting cat. I find it kind of ugly. It's more rounded, just bigger and the balance is weird. It seems to really want to open up. When I first started the game 24 years ago I briefly had my hands on a BECU + LW and I was hoping this club would bring back some memories, but I am not as excited about it as I am the other clubs. At the same time, now I have 3-LW in +no+ should I ever deign to use them.

Every Thanksgiving my tradition is to slap on some plus fours and play w/ old clubs.. this year I added grandpa's Ping Eye 2 BeCu SW (and 1iron hehe) to the bag.

Let me tell you something... This thing is an absolute ANIMAL inside 60 yards.

Ok cult following, someone break this down for me. Is there something to opening a face with lots of offset built in? I don't like it on full shots, but it has my attention around the green.

I had the SW and LW for a for stint in high school 2003-2004 (around when vokey came out as well) they worked great, but they started to feel too clanky for me and I jumped on the vokey bandwagon...

Those wedges look mint, were they refinished or did you find them in that condition.

I have the + no + SW in my bag & I found a + no + LW on ebay very cheap which is now on it's way to me, I'm the same I can't find a better SW, I play bunker shots, pitches, chips & full shots so well with it.

The loft spec for the Eye2 SW is 57.5* (oh my! A half degree!), and the LW is 61*

Eye2+ are 53/58 for SW/LW

I recently added a PING Eye 2 XG LW to the bag and had forgotten how useful this club truly is. It is the best ever from bunkers and so versatile from tight lies and around the greens. But what I love the most is how easy it is to open up and hit those mile high Phil flops. This is the original high toe wedge and just has that magic that the others do not have. Some say its ugly, but it is a timeless work of art to me.

I still play the Eye 2s, 1983 V-grooves.  I use the Eye 2 + SW (53 degrees) as a gap wedge.  SW (57.7 degrees) rocks, so does the LW (61 degrees), if you're used to offset.

I also have a few forged Mizuno wedges that have incredibly soft feel.  Lures you in.  Love those too.

I’m putting together a bag with a very specific purpose, and the Eye 2 wedges were the very first clubs to go in the bag.  Both sand wedges, OG and plus make for a brilliant set of lofts & grinds for every situation.

As an aside, I have had a fair bit of success with the PM grind ‘19 & OG in the same spots in my main bag.

I just picked up a set of BeCu Eye2+ irons (2-SW) and a Eye2+ LW @57*. In addition to my 46* PW, I carry a 52*/58* setup. With the weaker iron/PW lofts of the Eye2+ irons, I feel that the 53*/57* Eye2+ SW/LW combo should provide enough versatility to fill the necessary gaps.

I love golf
