Best Mizuno iron?

Caddimaster

Recommended Posts

I recommend the JPX 900 forged, combos very nicely with the modus line.. and everything you need in an iron.

From my experience the 4s are super demanding.. and 64s are so sexy but for as demanding as they are they may as well be a blade. Not knowing anything about your game, i wouldn't recommend those for a 7 handicap (i know the capability of using a blade should never be determined by handicap)

15 and 59s were my least favorite.

I know you're looking for mizunos,, but don't overlook the 718 Ap2

Fond memories of my MP68's, the first blade set I played and a set of irons that made me become a better player purely down to how pleasurable and addictive they were to hit.

Every other club I hit now gets compared to them and that warm fuzzy feeling they gave me.

As i was reading this, I realized I easily could have written it.... ditto

I've slowly became a Mizuno fanboy. I started out with the MP-59's, I demoed the MP15's, MP18 MMC and SC but decided on the JPX 900T's...not looking back. When I decided on the 900T's I tried the 18 AP2's, Callaway X forged, some srixons, and taylormade P770's. I will not look at any other brand for my irons.

Anyone who owns and loves a set of Mizuno irons thinks that they are the best ever made.....

that being said, the

MP 59’s are the obvious answer.

I have bagged the 32, 33, 64, 5, and now the 18 mmc. Loved them all, but really digging my new setup, stupid easy to hit.

I gamed the 60s for a decade so I missed out on the 64s and 4s.

I’m very well pleased with the 900T performance and forgiveness wise. I felt I missed out on the 64s on looks and the 900T reincarnates the nostalgia.

I would say the S18 is the best looking thus far, but it didn’t give me any performance gains to warrant an upgrade.

The 4s ahead on feel.

Is this the right place to pose this question?....I dont post much......

I am looking to replace my 710 AP2's with something from the Mizuno line of iron's. I have played MP33's and more recently MP32's. In-between for along time I had Hogan 88 Redline's. I like the look of the smallish blade but don't think I want a pure blade again.

I couldn't handle the Hogan 4 shaft longer, so I had the Hogan's re shafted with 5.5 project X's The clubs didn't feel balanced.

Im not up on all the new iterations of the Mizuno's. (I recently played a round with the 32's and liked the look of them but the R300 shaft felt soft.)

Im 64 have a 7 hdcp and hit the driver about 240 or so.

What do the experts think?

Any thoughts on the Nippon shaft?

I was just thinking about posting this.... I'm going to make the jump to Mizuno in time for the season next year, I'm a 1 and have been thinking of blades, rarely miss the sweet spot and the feel of my rocketbladez tours is not great, the MP4s look sweet and can be had for a good price, I believe those were released in 2013, will be interested to hear others thoughts on the MP lineup

Just draw the Mizuno sign over the "B" on a set of J40s.

+1 on a set of J40 DPC or J15 DPF (I don’t mind the visible rubber on the J15 version!) The J40 looks great and the J15 has stronger lofts. Both give you a little more room heel to toe without a ton of offset. These are both solid in forgiveness on mishits.

If you rarely miss the sweet spot, congratulations on that. If that were me I am going MP4 all the way because they are beautiful. But that is not me unless I am playing regularly — not happening — so I bought the Wilson Staff C300 Forged. They give you a little help.

As for Nippon shafts, I like the bend profile on the Modus 105/125 the most (same profile on these two shafts, just different weights ranging from 105 to in the high 120s depending on flex; I went with the 105 X flex, which is 112g). This profile is aimed at players who want something similar in feel to Dynamic Gold but smoother. Others love the Modus 120 which is very smooth but did not feel as solid to me. But I also am a PX Rifle fan. You should test for yourself and see. Good luck.

Buy MP line 1 set and JPX line 1 set, you have the best golf iron set :)

Yep, a set of 900's, and a set of MP18's, what more could a guy ask for. I am happy with mine.

Only blade I've carried. Mp9 with a g loomis tour stiff shaft. I have hit plenty of others , although I consider how the weight of my shafts and swing weight retards any tempo inconsistencies .

89 mph swing speed . Mp9 7 iron 175

I play with some accomplished strikers, and with fellows from work.

Why are recreational golfers purchase point decision's diluted by the unicorn of game improvement irons ???

Hit a blade and improve your skill set

I hope I can say the 67 is my all time favorite - just picked up a set on eBay in great condition. Its so fun to hit any mizuno really, at least in the MP line. So many of the older cavities are just as great as the blades: thinking the 30, 62, 64. The only MP iron I ever hit that I didn't really enjoy was the 25. Every other one I could see myself gaming. Given my druthers I'd pick something with some offset, but not a ton, shortish blade length, and I like the sole grinds with some camber. Hard to beat an MP68, but have quite a few to try yet. Funny thing is when you really nerd out on some mizzies (and I'm sure all irons) you realize part of the set might be perfect but another part of it not so much. For instance the mid irons in the 37 are perfection, but the short irons have an awful lot of offset. Same with the MP30, which I've recently gone back to. The long irons are as good as anything I've ever hit, but the short irons flight the ball a bit high. Really psyched to get these 67s tho!!

I know this is a pretty old thread but I finally got my hands on a set of practically new mp5s after looking for the right set for a while and couldn’t be happier. Something about them the first time I saw them stuck with me, might not be the greatest when people talk about feel although they are as fantastic as any other mizuno I just absolutely love the design

I've been sitting on a very nice set of MP-4 heads 5-PW for quite a while now, and just got around to assembling them this week with Steelfiber i110CW X-Stiff.  I'm going to retire my normal gamer MP-18 MCC in the closet for now, and finish out our season with the 4's !  I never get tired of looking at them, and plan do some paint-fill in the off-season.

I agree with this, as do many other posters. I believe the titanium insert changed the feel of these irons.  They always felt a little dead to me.

I'm still gaming MP-54s and can't recommend them high enough for someone who wants that forged/dense feel, with a little help (perimeter weighting + added launch), especially if you tend to dig a bit.

My backup set are 32s.  And they are incredible when struck well.

However, my vote for "best Mizuno" goes to the 4.  Flushing this iron is something I'd like everyone to experience once.

Those 4s are sweet ARL. Just recieved the 67s I mentioned previously - unsurprisingly they feel fantastic. One of defining characteristics of the 67 as far as I can tell is the narrow sole. They achieve it with a lot of camber. Out of all the MP irons I've played these get thru the turf quicker than any. The short irons have a ton of trailing edge ground off. Now the leading edge isn't super sharp by any means but if you get lazy on your delivery or the face is coming in a bit shut they can grab on you. But if you're playing on medium to firm turf and your delivery is jiving with them these are magic.
