How 'bout the Tommy Armour Silver Scot 845s?

Recommended Posts

Here is my set of Tommy Armour Silver Scot 845s. I also bought a Silver Scott putter to go with it.

Any idea what would be a reasonable price for 1-SW in similar condition?

I think a reasonable value range for 1-SW is between $120 and $180. Whether buying or selling, the competition is the cheaper 8, 9, or 10 clubs sets and then acquiring the missing clubs separately.

Gotta say, the 845s were the first set that gave me that first taste of what it felt like to flush an iron. Real 'fat' feeling when you hit it in the middle of that perimeter weighted cavity. I remember I loved hitting my 7i. I couldn't wait to hit it again. I think I could play them well again today now that I have a better idea of how to deal with all that offset in the mid-longs.

Got a set of 845s Silver Scots sitting in the shed - DGS300, 4-PW if anyone wants 'em in Australia. Grabbed them a few years back at a garage sale for next to nothin'.

Played a round with them for fun - too much offset for me but they are still a very strong set of irons.

Would happily send them to anyone who wants them (at postage cost). Unfortunately I'm in Tasmania, which is about as far from most people on this forum as it gets !! (I'm not trying to sell these, just give them away - not sure if I'm breaking any site rules by posting that?)

Does anyone know when the 845 polished version came out and what the specs (lofts/lengths) are?

I haven't seen any that tell me that info.

Thx.

I have a set of the polished ones. Came out around 2001? The lofts are the same as the originals. Loft is stamped on the face.

Lofts start with 48 on the PW.

might be that the polished ones were the last of the regular sized 845 castings. yes, same specs as the originals - BMC pointed out above.

after that I believe the company was owned by Canadian based X-Sport(s) and a larger 845 FS head was being shipped.

I bought a set of 845's 3-pw in excellent shape off of craig's list for $29, really like the way they play. I have an odd habit of wanting 2 sets of what ever I'm playing so today I picked another set up for $10, not quite as mint as the first set but well worth the $10. I've played the Titleist 962's and Ping eye 2's and I think I like these better, just real easy to use.

Sorry if it’s been answered already but I can’t it. Are 845 irons legal or no?

Thanks Zach

I''m using set of 845C Silverbacks, ca 2003, which I believe are the forged cavity version of the 845s. They still look and fell good.

No, that's a different design. An outstanding design that was done by Ralph Maltby of the Golfworks. He did designs for several other companies back then. He also did the 845FS and 845 oversize plus

Does anyone know if the original 845's were available in a reduced offset model? I know the 855's were

There have been RO sets in the 845 Oversize, the V31 EVO, and probably a couple others I'm not remembering, but I've never seen originals in reduced offset. Doesn't mean they don't exist, but you'd think there'd be at least one out there, somewhere.

nope.

the original castings of the 845s only came one way.

TA produced that design for several years.

the 855s were sold two ways.

yellow circle were full offset and black circle were reduced offset.

after that came other products called 845 but none were the actual small heads.

ran into an original FS eight iron this week. still has the original logo grip and TA labeled TT shaft.

mine were redone with different shafts years ago and I'd forgotten how original labels looked.

keeper.

I never stopped to really think about it but I bought both Ping Eye 2s and 845s the same year(1988 I think ,still have them both) but I also have a set of 845s in BeCu with stock graphite shafts and a set of the 845C Silverbacks in stock graphite too.......must have liked the Armour clubs more than I realized.....Still playing the 845s and Eye2s ...gonna try some single length clubs this year and see how that goes (component set I built)... I seem to have an issue with getting rid of old clubs,,, I have at least a dozen or more sets I've gotten over the years and just never seem to sell them.... between them and over 60 putters my wife (of 48 yrs) would kill me if I went out and spent what clubs cost today on another set.......golf clubs are my crack cocaine I guess......

Peace
