So How Has Your 2016 Season Been?

Bah humbug. It's been a disastrous year financially, so I've only played 6 rounds in '16. But that's also made me appreciate each one even more. I got to play last week for probably the last time this year, and it was a gorgeous day, warm and sunny. I didn't play too bad, had some good shots, good putts, and makes me hope for better things for 2017.

One of the best years I've ever had - dropped my handicap from a 3ish (can't pinpoint, but close) to a 0.1, and have broken or shot par 5 times in my last 9 rounds. My new irons have definitely helped with this, but I've grooved a swing that works well and can even make up for tough days in one area of my game and still shoot well. I'm looking forward to 2017, and hope to find a good shaft for my 3 wood to really increase my performance with it!

Due to the unusually mild winter, the 2015 season never really ended, so it was great having 4 or 5 extra months to play. Went through a lot of gear in the spring, finally got the bag straightened out. Drove pretty well all season, still can't buy a putt. I also have developed a nasty case of the shanks over the last month, and it's been messing with my head a bit. Actually, enough that I'm kind of looking forward to the season ending. Crazy game...

Year started out slow as I worked through some swing changes. Became much better and was shooting consistently low rounds, but unfortunately over the past month it has gone south. My swing has developed some quirks that are causing me to make incredibly bad contact and the result equals bad scores. Hopefully a few range sessions have helped to figure out what has happened and we'll see the next time out if things have gotten better or not. At least I figured out what was happening and now it's a matter of fixing it during a round.

Golf has saved me this year from Life stress.

My best golfing year of my life (playing on and off over 20 years since playing a lot as a kid).

Broke 90, then 80. Became a mid teens hdcp golfer.

Only one more goal left on my golf goals for 2017.

I golfed more this year than I had any year in my life by far.

league once a week from mid april to end of august

range at least twice a week

golf trip to 3 day golf trip to Kentucky

and at least 1 round per week (not including league) from 1st week of april until my last round this year on Nov 29th.

My love for the game has grown exponentially as well as my knowledge and I shot my best round of the year and my life. And thanks to some guys in my league, I got to play some amazing course this year after our season.

It was an amazing 2016. I am hoping and praying that 2017 will equally satisfying if not better.

The last 4 rounds of the year have been very consistent and the lowest scoring of the season. Not to sound like a shill but they've been played with the Costco KSig ball Cally XR driver. Of course, after Saturday's round, it snowed 6 inches in Chicago on Sunday.

Very jealous of those who do not have a golf "season."

It was a fun 2016 as spring arrived early in New England and the winter was mild. The mild weather has continued into December so I have been fortunate to play all 12 months with temperatures above 50. I played more than 10 courses I have never played before which has been an annual goal every year over the last 5 years. GHIN stayed between 4 and 5 all year. I was lucky to test many clubs, shafts and balls on course, and increase my limited knowledge in clubfitting. Tested my skills in state qualifier events. But best of all, I reduced the elbow pain which caused me to stop playing at the end of 2015.

Its been a great year for me. The last kid left home, I turned 59 1/2 in May, and I semi retired from work. I only work 2 days a week now which leaves me a lot of time for golf, and I take full advantage of it too. The boss ain't happy but I dont give a dam.

Prevoius years I would only get in maybe 10 or 12 rounds/ yr and not a lot of time for practice, so as much as I wanted, I never got any better. Handicap was around 23.

Since May, I've practiced a lot, took a couple lessons, bought some new clubs and played 47 rounds. Handicap index is now 11.6. Yeah, it's been an awesome year.

Up and down season. Only will end up playing about 35-40 rounds in 2016.

The good shot -1 on a former pga tour track for first round under par post hip replacements. Shot even 4 other rounds. A bunch more 73-76 rounds as well. I also had more rounds with 3+ birdies than I have in years past. For a low single digit guy I am a par machine vs birdies offset by bad numbers.

The bad not playing as much lead to more rounds between 80-85 than i care to have.

Also one of those even par rounds took 5 birdies and failing to get up and down on every opportunity

2016 was a pretty good season..

First round of the year was a 72, so it looked to be the year I finally get to 0 hdcp.

Then throughout May and June I logged a bunch of scores in the 74-78 range, with the occassional score at or below par.

June - September I flirted in the 72-74 range. Very happy with that.

Late Sept - late Oct. I shot 6/10 rounds in the 60's. And just like that golf season in Montana is over!

Next year I hope to pick up where I left off - and also hope to enter a lot more tournaments.

Does your handicap season close early? Would think that the awesome rounds in the 60's would reduce that number quickly.

4/1 - 10/31 if I remember correctly. I probably need to update my wrx hdcp as it was a 0.8 at the end of season. Then I played a few cold miserable november rounds of golf that were in the low 80's on plugged greens.

Man am I jealous of the guys playing 12 months a year.

Been the worse year scoring year I've had in the last 5 years. I always start slow at the beginning of the year dealing with cold(for this area) and the high winds. This year I never recovered. My low round was 75 and my index went from 5.1 to 7.7. It usually drops down to the 4's.

On the upside of it all, I got me first hole in one.

Regardless of scores golf is still enjoyable and hopefully stay my hobby of choice for years to come.
